For this week we will give you a 10% discount off the ticketed price on instore stocks of Powerspell reels (Excluding PE2 model)

Carrying on with the monster Noah's.

Even with all my gear sold my little brother Aron and his mate jimmy have been tagging along with me on my shark fishing efforts and have got into it themselves. It's taken about 3 months to get there rigs and knots all sorted with a bit of my help and now they are onto it.

2 big bronzies in 2 nights on 40lb and a torium 30 and penn prevail overhead or sensor surf overhead. Can't wait to see them with some 3m+ horses!!

Fisheries boat learner driver!!!! BEWARE

I was out just behind Garden Island today, fishing at anchor, Fisheries boat pulls up along side to check the same gear they check every second week, the d...a.s driver let the rear of his boat drift into the front of my boat, with the swell, my boat rises and slams down hard into his boat, my 'getting elderly' mother, who was sittting on the esky, ends up flying off the esky, ending up on the deck, i was standing but almost ended up on my ass also!!! luckily no one was hurt or broke any bones, quiet easliy could have happened.

I suppose my point is just because they have a Fisheries badge on their shirt doesnt mean they know what they are doing! As skipper of the boat, i will be telling them to keep their distance from my boat in future.

I have also had them board my boat at sea ( 500 metres from point peron boat ramp), about 12 months ago, an extremely unsafe practise, an accident waiting to happen, i am not sure if they are allowed to do this, again as skipper i dont think i will allow that again, so much easier and safer to check things back at the ramp!

baby flatties

behind the sisters in about 20m out from the bent street ramp rockingham is alive with baby flatties got about 30 today and only 1 went size anyone got a theory as to why they are so small there any why they are there it got to the point they were pests.(Got spiked by one too bloody hurt , finger is just coming good now) the monster sand whiting we got made up for it thou

Slow GPS

Hi Guys

Boats fitted with a 07 Navman 6507. It may be me when working in a small area but it seems to be slow to change degrees when moving, also if I was to head straight today the boat symbol on the screen would be travelling side ways before straighting up. This makes life hard when crossing ground then wanting to return past before doing a drift, makes it hard to line up.

Then when heading home today the unit shut down a few times, this may have been due to a plug working its way loose, once the unit was started again the boat symbol ended on land in the Kwinana suburb some were, we were still behind Garden Island.

When leaving the ramp my old tracks had crossed across the rock wall the previous trip, which never happened as far as i am aware!

Any ideas on this? Power issue through the plug, some settings to adjust or is it on its way out??

Comments most appreciated.

Freezing mussels

Is it ok to freeze fresh, uncooked mussels? I googled it, but got mixed answers.

What Would You Fishwrecked Members Do

Got a phone call today from a local newspaper wanting comment about a baby dolphin that was caught up in fishing line and needed to be rescued and I guess everyone knows where this was heading.Tried fobbing the reporter off onto Recfishwest but she wasn't having a bar of that so I fell back on, education and making people aware of the importance of picking up their rubbish when heading home etc, etc, but just from her line of questioning she wanted to stick it up a rec-fisher and get a scoop. I'm just wondering what would you guys do and say.

Video Surveys Of Sub-Sea Locations

Here at Holland SubSea Solutions we are mad keen about fishing and everything sub-sea. To that end we are looking at performing some video and photographic surveys (including GPS data) of recommended Perth Locations with our Remotely Operated Vehicles for free publication on our website

We are initially looking for popular spots (rockwalls, piers, reefs, etc.) so we can develop a section on our website.

So if you've always been curious about what's at the bottom of that wharf or want to know the perfect location to drop your line, give us your thoughts.

Abrolhos Islands Live Aboard Charter

G'day all...  I'm in a very unfortunate position.....

well, not really...

The missus is looking to send me away for a while..  on a live aboard charter to the Abrolhos!!!!  haha!

Now the question I have for you, is who has done a live aboard charter, what company did you go with, how do you rate the charter company, and of course the overall experience.  I've checked out all the reports people have done, and it just looks amazing and I've been licking my lips hoping to go on one for a while, then got home last night and had the bomb dropped on me.

She's looking to get rid of me for around a 4 day trip (5 including stop over).

What did you bring with you (in terms of fishing gear, and personal gear)

where did you leave your vehicle securely?

and, any other tips you can all offer would be appreciated.

thanks!

Gear advice welcome for someone getting back into beach fishing

Hi guys,

New to the forum and have recently moved close to the beach and started to gather some basic gear again. I used to be a keen fisher (rocks, beach, jetty) as a teen but its been a good 10-15 years since and I don't have any of my old gear. I've been doing plenty of research but and I'm a bit rusty generally and was hoping to get some advice. I will be beach fishing along the coast from Mullaloo to Guilderton in WA with the occasional trip further afield.

Rod:
So I have done a stack of reading and playing with Alvey reels in BCF (so sick of being served by a 15yo kid with NFI about anything they sell) and bought a 6000BCVRRT and basic 12" 625L surf rod combo from a proper fishing shop online.. http://www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/product_detail.asp?productnospaces=alvey_6000bcvrrt_reel_rod_625l_combo_6027

I started looking at the basic direct drive 650's but the way they free-wheeled backwards annoyed me. I thought the price drop to a 600 and the 30% faster reel in for the RRT model was a decent price compromise for the .5" size drop.  I had a budget to stick to and am pretty confident the rod will be a great starter... My thinking is that rod is Alvey specific so if Avley life suits me then maybe I can upgrade the rod in a few years, if not I cant really use it with any other reel type so I didnt want to drop alot of cash on a punt. I was also hoping the 600 may be more multipurpose size wise for fishing off rocks or elsewhere than the 650 is.

I know the community is divided over Alvey's, and the Alvey community is then further divided over clutch or direct drive people, but do you think for a starter surf setup it will a good base to start with? Have I made an OK decision or not?  I understand there will be a steep learning curve and I have read most of the internet about Alveys before I bought this so I know what Im in for.

Line:
I've bought 600m of Tortue mono 6Kg line. http://www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/product_detail.asp?productnospaces=tortue_tournament_super_control_line_600m_-_6kg_5642 (Rod is 4-6kg) Picking up good reports from folk on the internet about this line on an Alvey, opinions? How much do I put on the reel?  Manual says it will take 500m of 7Kg line but do I really need ~500m spooled up? How far realistically will I be able to cast with practice, and then how much more do I need to have a big fish drag it out or am I missing why the reel needs heaps of line on it?

Do I need leader/trace line for making all my rigs below the swivel? Back in my day I only ever used 15cm or 30 cm Stainless tracers to clip hooks on. If so what brand and strength should I get? Does it matter? I know nothing about how to select trace line!

Any tips for spooling up the reel to combat twisting apart from the stuff on Alveys site?

Swivels:
I understand how important a good quality, correctly sized swivel is for Alvey reels. I also discovered ball-bearing swivels are popular to now. They are soo expensive at BCF but 20+ bulk buys from ebay or online shops can be had for a good price. What do you all think about them? Worth the cash? Do they last? Most importantly how do I know what guage swivel will be the best size match the 6kg line I have?

Sinkers:
Saw these out there: http://www.littlefins.com.au/enviro.html and the prices are good too. I emailed the guy and he gave me some advice but I was curious to know if anyone used them before and had any feedback? I wonder if they really work as they say? What would be a good quantity and selection of sizes for someone who is going to fish off the beach a couple of times a month? Hard to picture what a 20g vs's 60g feels like without holding it.

I get these for free from Alvey too: http://www.alvey.com.au/downloads/ARA_Klik_Product_Form.pdf What size should I get?

Rigs:
Really out of practice here. Any up to date sources of information for help making up rigs, hook sizes, sinker weights, baits etc? Thinking I want to catch Tailor, Whiting, Bream. But If I can get distance I would love to fish for some bigger fish too like a Mulloway or Salmon if my rod is up to the task?. Hell I dont even know exaclty what I can catch off the beach in my area! :)

Shops:
I've found BCF to be a total pain in the ass. Half the gear has no prices, the sales kids dont know what they are selling or what they even have plus the web price and the store prices vary wildly! Anyone Perth members north of the river who can suggest decent fishing shops?

I really appreciate any advice people have!

Denmark & Albany Help

Hi All

Heading down south to Denmark and Albany with the hoards of others over the next week and a half and hoping to get onto some quality fish. No 4WD and will be landbased. Mainly keen on fishing the beaches for some Salmon or even some Whiting, Pinkies (I hear you can get them at Wilsons Inlet at certain times).

Will most probably be with the Mrs so nothing too dangerous would be what I am after.

Thinking Wilsons Inlet, Cheynes and few of the Albany beaches but don't really have a clue.

Ive had a bit of a look around on here and on the net but hoping some of the FW crew can help me out.

Cheers

Need a Deckie over Long Weekend for Bottom Bashing?

Hey Guys & Gals,

Hoping someone needs either a Deckie and/or Fishing Pal to head out with them for Bottom Bashing (Dhuie/Snapper etc) over the long weekend.

I've got the Friday off as well.

Have my own gear, will supply bait, chip in for fuel etc.

I'm very laid back and I never get bored trying.

If you're interested send me a PM and we can get in contact.

Thanks!
