Today and upcoming
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2013-04-28 19:33Well after 5 years of just an annual "see if it still works" run, the tinny finally got into some salt water when wife, kids and I went for a fish out of woodmans point.
Firstly we headed south to the cliffs for a drift for a squid, and first cast, while trying to settle the brown dog, we got a small squid. That was where the fishing success ended, but we drifted around for another hour, trawled along the cliffs then headed to the actual woodmans point for another drift without luck.
Overall a very enjoyable morning on the water. The motor didn't miss a beat which was really pleasing.
Next up is a week in Yallingup after a week at work. Have everything I need for salmon, apart from ability, then Exmouth for a week in July (was up there for a week in 2005, spent $300 at the local blue water and didn't catch a thing hence my comment about ability).
I will report in from down south if anything interesting happens, fishing wise :-p

Rod Advice
Submitted by Pembo on Sun, 2013-04-28 18:04I just bought a new Penn Prevail beach rod. I have taken it home and when I put it together i can't get the male ferrule to completely insert so the joint is flush. The male ferrule is about 100mm long and when I try and join it there is still about 15mm that won't insert itself. I have tried parrafin to lubricate but to no avail.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Submitted by brucedog1 on Sun, 2013-04-28 09:53Guys,
I have secured a week off in late may and have family coming from east, taking them camping at Jurien and taking the boat. After some help with where to go to get some baldies snapper or maybe a dhuie. Boat is 18.6 so quite comfortable traveling 20 kms. Not after secret honey holes but some help would be great. Was also going to drag a lure around but I guess Id be a bit late for makies that time of year?
Thanks again guys.

Grey Nurse at Wagoe
Submitted by Flat stick on Sun, 2013-04-28 09:40Just got back from Wagoe. The sea was flat all week but no easterlies for ballooning so we had to settle for a lot of reef fish and plenty of lost rigs. I put out a live bait on a slide (hoping for a big Mulloway) from one of the gaps in the reef and ended up getting bitten off after about 15 minutes. I tried again with a whole tailor on a slide the next day from a different spot about 500m down the beach and managed to land this shark. Amazing it still had my hook from the previous day in it's mouth

Best Tough Beech Spin Reel
Submitted by crasny1 on Sun, 2013-04-28 08:53Now we all know A Stella or Saltiga is tops for spins, but I would loathe to take one on to the beach with all that sand etc.
Just wondering price no issue with the best toughest spin reel would be for the beech.
Considering what the yanks do with their Tailor (bluefish) fishing using Van Staal's whether that would be up there.

Big deep sea squid (perth canyon)
Submitted by harry_davis on Sat, 2013-04-27 20:13Hey guys.
was just flicking through youtbe, when i came across a recent wa fiheries video. it has some awesome footage of some deep water species, ie gray-band, red snapper, gem fish and many more between the 100m and 500m mark.
one shot in particular caught my attention when a huge squid comes upto the camera and sprays inc everywhere got a clear view of the size of it. just wondered has anyone caught one of these before, closely resembles the humbolt squid of western america???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d27m1ECzxA
the footage is around the 6:17 mark
thanks

Rod and tackle box trolley - any ideas?
Submitted by metrolandbased on Sat, 2013-04-27 11:14Being fully landbased, I have to treck a fair way to get to some of my spots and carrying three rods, tackle box and bait is difficult when i am by myself so I was wondering if any of you have made your own trolley or cart that has a few rod holders and stuff on it to make carrying all pf your gear to your favourite fishing spot a little easier? This is sort of what I want, but i am on a tight budget so some cheap ideas to make something similar to this would be good. Cheers.

Sandy Point, Warroora Station
Submitted by Bluetonic on Fri, 2013-04-26 23:13Did the annual trip to Warroora Station this year and decided to stay at Sandy Point where as in previous years we've stayed at 'The Lagoon'.

Sandy Point was the choice because it's easier on our aging bodies to be able to launch the boats and have them safely moored inside the reef where as The Lagoon means launching at Sandy Point and driving 20 odd km down the coast and mooring without the protection of a reef.
Camp Warroora.

Sandy Point has a bid of a head case caretaker in Stewie who can 1st scare you when you meet him in is Budgie Smugglers minus a toe but cheers to him he went out of his way to make sure the tracks in were graded so we wouldn't get bogged,... even if it was all hours of the night he decided to do it.
His pet goat was another story though!

Everytime you left the camp unattended you'd arrive back to such seens as above!

Apparently because many moons ago I was born in NZ, this photo got titled 'Me trying to get my girlfriend drunk!'

As in previous years we had shirts made for the occasion, this time from a supplier in Busselton who did a great job.
Every Thursday we made the short trek to the Coral Bay Pub for 'Locals' night where the person who has made the most F*%k ups for the week had to wear a special pink shirt and carry a pink Bunny all night.
I think Graham kissed every girl in the pub that night!

Can't beat the YFT Gucci Bag! Think I'll have to patent that one!

All in all this years trip was at the start of April where previous trips have been in the middle of May, so the fishing wasn't as good as the past and locals put this down to a major coral spawn that had just happened. Even so, we did manage a few good fish.

Casa's 1st Red.

Chris fighting a YFT on light gear.

Our doorstep inside the reef.

Another rod that we have added to our range of jigging rods is the Expert Graphite Alexander series.
A rod that features a very parabolic blank and complimented with Fuji components and a little bit of bling. There are 3 rods in this range, The PE 1-3 spin, PE 2-4 spin and PE 1-3 Overhead.

These are $ for FW members as an introductory price. Awesome value!
Waves Mare Nostrum Shorty 20lb rods are another great demersal jig rod. Standing at 5'6" and suggested jig weight of upto 150g. Tested and proven by Blake and Ryan out on the water, We are doing these at $ each, Saving $

For those going out chasing the Super Deep Species then come check out the custom designed and made Ozflex Braid Master Electric Lt bent butt rod. For years we have promoted using Jig style rods for Super deep fishing and this is still the best way if activley fighting the fish, Though for those that simply want to put the rod in the rod holder and let the outfit do the work then this rod is the one you need. Softer actioned blank than most other bent but rods on the market, Good quality guides and an AFTCO swivel roller tip, Its all quality. We already have customers with these rods and they love them.

Also a heads up to Fishwrecked members that we have just recieved an order of the popular Fishing WA Extreme Tackle 9' spin rod. This is by far one of the fastest moving rods that we stock and for good reason! If you want one now is the time to buy as these WILL sell out. For this week we will give you your FW discount and throw in a Fishing WA Freshwater cove special DVD.
We have the Jigging Master Powerspell reels instock too. They are powerhouses of reels and simply put they are the highest quality of reels in the market. Featuring one of the strongest Anti-Reverse systems available and crazy drag out puts. They were put to the test up in Exmouth over the past couple of weeks with Blake using them to tackle medium to large Amberjack and medium sized Ruby Snapper in 250m + deep water and winning all fights (Including some pesky sharks!).
For this week we will give you a 10% discount off the ticketed price on instore stocks of Powerspell reels (Excluding PE2 model)

We have only one left of the Brand new Jigging Master Powerspell PE2 casting reel. This is an awesome bit of kit which is designed for casting though still at home landing demersals and smaller pelagics. Rather than having the trademark T-Bar handle it features a machined power knob. Holds 400m of PE2 or 320m of PE3 and a gear ratio of 5.3:1
This reel is already proving popular so come in and check it out!
We have also recieved a new batch of Lamble Bait jigs! Including popular models like:
