Are we getting ripped off or what!!!!!
Submitted by clogwog on Thu, 2013-05-09 18:47Hey All,
I was looking on the net and came across a website for an Indonesian Company
selling outboards, the prices are in US dollars and are ridiculously low. The website
I understand that you would not have a warranty if purchased for a local boat, however
for the prices that they are selling them for you could pretty much buy a new engine every 3-4 years.
The warranties being offered within indonesia seem to be equivelant to local warranties.
Are we getting ripped off or what????
Has anyone purchased one and fitted it up locally?
Food for thought.

Swains reef
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Thu, 2013-05-09 09:31Was interested to know if anybody on the this forum had fished the Swains reef and surrounding area out of Gladstone, QLD.
I have a week's fishing on the MV Iron Joy.
Interested to hear personal opinions about your experiences fishing the area ? Essential items to take ? Tackle ?
Or, better still, if you have been on the same charter boat !!
Cheers

Fish ID please
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2013-05-08 19:54
Caught this on a recent trip to Monkey Mia. North West of the resort in about 8 metres of water. On 6kg gear it was pretty good fun. I called it as some time of trevally but not sure what type. quick photo and released. referred to a camping neighbour's fish idenification book and guessed it to be a diamond trevally.
Thoughts and opinions? No good to eat so wasn't upset about putting it back.

Daily bag limits question
Submitted by Doooma on Wed, 2013-05-08 10:54From my understanding... the daily bag limits now apply from midnight to midnight...
This in essence means we cant go out fishing Saturday and catch a bag limit, and then do the same on the following day.. (Sunday)
This also means you cant do an overnighter and come home with 2 days bag limit!!!
Does anyone actually truely knows if this is actually the case??

The Abrolhos - Is it a Fishing Paradise or Just Paradise ??? PT 2
Submitted by abeldog on Wed, 2013-05-08 08:14Two weeks later, I get that phone call that all Deckies want to get, Paul G asking if I would like to go to back to the Abrolhos on Anzac Day.
"Let me think about that, hmmmmm YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!, as long as we leave after the Dawn Service, who needs to watch the Pies & the Bombers.
Ohh and by the way, on this trip we are going to be joined by a "New & Mysterious Deckie" never fished before were Pauls final words before he hung up,
Hmmm Who Could It Be
So this trip saw us getting into Geraldton at 4pm to be joined by Kane & his new Trophy along with Dan on his Rigid Inflatable, State of the Art.
After getting the boats ready, we headed out and through the heads into a howling SW, & 3m - 4m Swell.
After almost 3 hours and a very tough trip across saw us getting into the Abrolhos just after dark, making the passage through the reefs very tight and scarey.
Jesse with his trusty torch showing us the way.
We woke to a beautiful day and headed out for our first fish
New Deckie with the First Fish of the Day - Is there a Fish There???
Ahhh the Old Fart still Has It
Thank Goodness for Warm Weather
Hope It Get Hotter
Cool Off Abeldog, Let's Go for a Snorkel. Yes Yes
Back To The Fishing
We ended the day with a night fish, Funniest Hour, Bust Off after Bust Off, Big Bruiser Fish of all species
Day Two had The New Deckie First On The Board Again,
Hope the Weather Warms Up
Who Said No Reds, Nice One To Release, And So We Did![]()
My PB Sambo, Forgot about the Tape Measure
Love That Warm Weather
Must Be Time For Another Snorkel
And so the Day Ended with Paul & Jesse Going for a Dive in Search of that Missing Go Pro only to be harrased by the biggest bronzies.
Once the boys were on the boat I dropped a whole squid, it was smashed half way down.
Now when you have 50lb Varivas vrs an Anchor Rope, who do you think will loose, Yep The Anchor Rope.
As the shark flew past the anchor, the Talica 12 fully locked, my thumb on the spool and reel is still spilling line, the Varivas cut through the rope as if it was butter.
The Next morning had Paul & Jesse dive to get the anchor back and then we headed home.
Another Great Trip, New Friends & Great Company and that Magical Paradise known as The Abrolhos.

The Moles or E Shed?
Submitted by sideshow on Tue, 2013-05-07 20:17Gday
I'm thinking of trying for some snapper and or mullas on friday evening.
Just wondering where would be best?
Does the Eshed produce pinkies at all with this type of weather or is the North or South mole better all round?
On the Moles what is better for these fish the end, inside, outside, halfway down? Never had any real luck from them before.
Any advice would be great and a pm is welcome if you don't want to post any spots publicly.
Cheers
Brendon

The Abrolhos - Is it a Fishing Paradise or Just Paradise ??? PT 1
Submitted by abeldog on Tue, 2013-05-07 19:55Hi All,
After a long time in the wilderness, I thought it was time to resurface with an editorial on my last two trips to the Abrolhos.
I have been fortunate to join Paul G & Jesse as part of the crew.
The first trip six weeks ago started with the five hour trip to Geraldton arriving about 10.00pm. The wonderpot of stew was magical, filled us up, then off to bed on the jetty for an early morning start.
We were joined by Outdoinit & Rusty on what was going to be more diving than fishing, Ahh well someone has to look after the gear.
The run across took about two hours, once we were at the islands, quick coffee, bacon and eggs for breakfast then getting ready for the first dive.
I couldnt help myself, I cast a soft plastic in the translucent colour and I was on straight away.
Coral Trout in the first 30 seconds, quick photo then release.
Then it was "The Divers Turn"
Rusty with a Great Trout on his first Dive
Jesse with another double, Dhui Trout
The Squid were jumping in the Boat
The Fisher not to be out done
And another to be released
Even the "Jumbo Yellowfin Tuna" were in the mix
We released more fish than we took home, about 20kg of fillets between four of us plus 10 Jumbo Crays.
Do we really need anymore when it all is still waiting there for next time.
The weather was great, we had shark action at night, Snorkling, Diving, Fishing(Plastics, Jigs, Baits whatever is your thing), Kyaking, Swimming,
Nature Walks, History, Myths, Legends, One Lost Go Pro with photos of schools of Dhufish in their thousands, okay maybe in the hundreds.
The Abrolhos has it all.
To be cont....................

squid worm/parasite or even sperm???
Submitted by mateusz on Tue, 2013-05-07 13:39hey guys,
I got back late last night from fishing and decided to leave the squid in the fridge to clean this morning. So When i pulled them out of the dish today, a little worm like creature was left crawling around the dish.... WTF is it? can i still eat the squid? from what i understand i should be able to as i am only eating the meat/muscle not the whole thing.
found this on google while trying to find some info on the little worm thing.
