Radar detectors
Submitted by pale ale on Sat, 2013-02-02 21:04Hey, just went for a cruise with a mate who has a radar detector. it was suction cup to the windscreen and plug into ciggy socket. It bloody worked when we drove towards an oncomming cop car. Wouldn't mind gettin one for me missus, she got done recently (and she always drives me if I have had a few). Anyone recently purchased one. Any info about the latest detectors and the new cameras etc. Do older detectors work with the new cameras?

Tide apps
Submitted by Sunburntfeet on Sat, 2013-02-02 20:35Just wondering what tide apps everyone is using. Went to chase some whiting on lures today, got ther about an hour before high tide - apparently. Lookin at the wet sand I missed it by a fair while. I've got AU tides pro, it was spot on last year, got the updated version and its way out. Seabreeze is good but I fish between bunbury and Margs, want something a bit more accurate. Any ideas?

our new project boat (update 13/7/13)
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sat, 2013-02-02 20:23hi guys
i have picked this thing up for $500, needs a bit of work.
Ford Merlin 4cly turbo diesel jet, 6mtrs, 2000 modle, only done 26hrs.
for some reason they have totaly strip the jet and the engine, cant seem to see any problems with it at this stage, all the engine parts are like new, not even any carbon build up on the pistons.
hydrulic steering, nav lights, internal fold down seats(Rated for 10 people)
i will remove the lifting frame, but the mounting points would make a great place to bolt a new targa top on if it goes that far.
i know with western power cherry pickers they have to do a 10year full rebuild to keep them in test, i wonder if this is the same??
it was decomissioned 2 years ago and has been sitting around ever since
if any ones knows any info on the tub please let me know, i cant seem to find any info on it at all
also dose anyone know what the grey barrel thing does on top of the targa bar, we pulled the pin on the self inflator to see if it worked.........it did..........not anymore...lol
im thinking it will be ok for my boys to use for some close in fishing and in the river.
cheers ron

Submitted by Lucky Last Cast on Sat, 2013-02-02 12:20Hi all our charter is heading into the Jurien bay Marina. They are aprox 1 and a half hours away!
Why not come on down and meet the crew and see what got caught today! Another awesome day out on the water had by all.
Not giving too much away. You will have to come on down and have a look!
Oh and we have news which will be posted up later.
Don't forget for new bookings we are donating $20 from each paid booking to Curt for his brain surgery by Dr Charlie Teo. At the moment Curt is "selling His Body" to raise the funds.
Check out his video here. The more booking we take the closer Curt is to his goal.

GoPro Camera Video Editing
Submitted by wayneleech on Sat, 2013-02-02 07:44Hi All,
I've been testing out my new GoPro camera.
When transferring the videos to my computer (only 6 months old) the video is playing back distorted and pixelated.
Any suggestion to overcome this? Could it be codec related?
Is there any recommendation on software or the process to transfer/edit videos from GoPro to PC?
cheers

Mono suggestions
Submitted by Justin M on Sat, 2013-02-02 06:25Ok so i got a abu garcia omega 4000 currently with 20lb braid on it but have been getting these bloody tangles. I took a bit of line off the reel, used heavier metals, made sure the line was tight when casting etc but still ended up with a tangle or two after about ten casts, which was a better result from when i first used it but its giving me the shits.
So I am thinking of just fucking it off and going back to mono. Any suggestion for mono of about 20lb would be appreciated.....or alternatively, as I can't recall the brand of braid but if there are suggestions for a braid that is far less susceptible to these wind tangles would be appreciated as well. Cheers!

DONT LOCK US OUT from Fishing
Submitted by crasny1 on Fri, 2013-02-01 08:55Just received an email from Keep Australia Fishing. I dont know if anyone else on here has a thread going and apologise if there is one.
This is the form letter to Tony Burke.
""Dear Minister Burke,
Don’t Lock Us Out!
We are writing to you because we are concerned you are locking Aussie recreational fishers out of more than 1.3 million square kilometres of our seas and oceans.
If this goes ahead, you will be responsible for the largest lock out of recreational fishers in Australian history. To date, you and your Government have not yet provided a single valid reason as to why this needs to happen.
With about 5 million Australians going fishing each year, we are the largest stakeholder group affected by your marine park lock up plans. These plans, if implemented, will have obvious and immediate impacts on rec-fishing opportunities and on the thousands businesses and communities that support us.
Despite this, your Government has already said it will not be compensating us for this loss, even though you are giving other affected user groups many millions of taxpayer dollars. We are also very worried about the precedents that will be set if you continue to ignore our concerns and lock us out.
This is just not good enough. Australian recreational fishers will not accept this sort of treatment.
Minister, you know full well that Australian recreational fishers are conservation minded and that we support scientifically based conservation measures including marine reserves. If there’s a good scientific reason to limit recreational fishing for the sake of the environment, then we accept this and will assist in the protection of these areas.
However, your draft management plans are discriminatory. You want to lock us out of vast areas of Australian ocean and seas yet you will leave these same areas open to thousands of divers, tourism operators, cargo ships, naval vessels and bulk carriers.
If these areas are so special and so environmentally sensitive, then why are these activities allowed while recreational fishers are locked out? How can you ban one user group and impose no restrictions on others, all without any valid scientific reasons?
As anglers are known as the guardians of the sea, a decision by you to allow recreational fishers to continue to access these areas will enhance the environmental outcome for the reserve network and increase the economic and social benefits for all Australians and future generations.
You know as well as we do that there are options and management strategies that you can implement to make this happen.
Minister, for the sake of all Australian fishos, Don’t Lock Us Out!
Sincerely, ""
I added this "I am a labour voter and have never changed. But this lockout under the Green's influence has now made me think Liberal. At least they arent half Green and stay true to their colours.
DONT LOCK US OUT"
With the election looming in September the Lab-greens will push harder to get these reserves through, and we should be heard now. Get behind it.

North Mole cleanup, February 10
Submitted by scottywiper on Fri, 2013-02-01 07:47Recfishwest recognises that while the majority of the fishing community do the right thing and place their litter in the bin, there are a few who tend to ruin it for the rest of us. No one likes to rock up to a pristine beach to see it scattered with the remnants of food scraps, tinnies and bait bags. Not only does litter depreciate the amenity of some of our favourite fishing spots, but it also has detrimental effects on the environment.
We believe there’s no time like the present to make a positive impact and take responsibility for our beloved beaches and aquatic environments.
Recfishwest and the Western Angler will be holding a clean-up day on Sunday 10th of February at North Mole, Fremantle. The clean up session will be a community event, which everyone is invited along to. We will aim to clean up the entire section of coastline from Port Beach round to the tip of the Mole. So bring your kids, aunty, uncle, granny and grandad along for a fun community event and make a positive impact on the coast!
We will be meeting at the end of North Mole Drive at 10:00am and will finish up at 12:30 for a free sausage sizzle and refreshments. All equipment will be supplied including gloves, rubbish bags, garbage grabbers and sunscreen.
Prizes will be awarded for the biggest bag(s) of rubbish and the most unusual item found.

very spoilt
Submitted by catchalittle on Fri, 2013-02-01 01:55Went down to the Ammo jetty last night and the ammount of scalies down there at the moment you could just about walk across the water and best of all there are plenty of nice sized ones about the size of a mulie perfect size for dropping down whole when out on the boat or for the rock hoppers out there who chase the tailor.
The usual shark boys were down there doing there thing had a bit of a chat with a few of them including our publicised member Ant was a good night no yar hoo rednecks
Only bad thing I saw was one of our off shore residents catching undersized crabs and after mentioning to him the size he was putting them back over and all swam off

Nanygai Demersal Scale Fish or Not.
Submitted by Howard George on Thu, 2013-01-31 19:09Nathan Harrison from Fisheries was on ABC local today discussing the new laws that come in tomorrow and the question came up about Red Bight Fish. You will notice on the South Coast you're allowed 8 Nany's along with a mixed bag of 5 demersals and Pelagics. Now I've always thought of nanygai's as being demersal scale fish so when the closure is on in the West Coast Bio-Region I've never bothered to target them but apparently fisheries have a different opinion. There is some good ground in the Capes region that have some good nanygai habitat so maybe worth a go next closure. What do you other fishers think.

Fishing Charter Recommendations Albany/Exmouth/Mid West Coast
Submitted by speedgull on Thu, 2013-01-31 18:45Kamraden,
My big brother is turning 50 soon and I want to take him on a mancation for a weekend and do a fishing charter for his birthday. So looking for charter recommendations.
Considering either Exmouth, Albany or Jurien/Dongra/Geraldton
Obviously Eccy is first choice but need back up plan if can't get up there and back at reasonable cost.
Would like to hear from people who have been on a charter in last 12 mths including details of what caught while on charter, what equipment charter supplied, how many people were on boat with you and anything you think made charter better than others you have done.
Would love to do a charter that involved trolling and catching Mackies/Tuna or similar action.
Looking at May-June as to when.
Thanks for your input
