Scallops
Submitted by Browndog on Mon, 2013-01-21 14:51Hey all, wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction for cleaning/cooking scallops? Was snorkelling on the weekend and saw heaps of large ones in quite shallow water, but have never cleaned or cooked them myself. Any ideas/suggestions?
Cheers,
BD.

Shark Fishing SW
Submitted by Howard George on Mon, 2013-01-21 09:25This is going to be a bit controversial but the mulie boat at Dunsborough went out Sat. night and filled up with mulies but around the net there was an estimated dozen sharks of all species in a real frenzy. Now I've just rung up fisheries Dept .and they're saying that rec-fishers can target these sharks as long as we stick to the size limits of 700 mm between dorsal fins and second fin with a bag limit of two. When I then look at the SLSWA web-site bronze whalers and tiger sharks have caused closures at Meelup and Bunkers Bay for swimmers for a few days now but these sharks are not a protected species so I believe we're within our rights to have some shark action and take some pressure off the people using the area for swimming at the same time. You just know we're going to get some heat from the greenies if we do this but i'm not chasing greenie points but looking to put some shark in the freezer " maybe ".I'd be interested in other peoples opinions.

Augusta Crabs
Submitted by fishmad69 on Mon, 2013-01-21 06:07Guys
I'm heading to Molloy Island for the long weekend and was thinking of doing a little crabbing with the kids in a tinny. Anyone got any advice of where to find some crab as I have never been down there. Do you go close to the mouth or are they a long way up river?
Any info appreciated

Walpole Fishing Spots
Submitted by Bushyyep on Mon, 2013-01-21 05:32Hey hows it going
I travel down to Walpole occasionly and do a little bit of deep sea fishing once or twice a year, we only seem to pick up second class fish and get the odd pinky and black ass as well and get our bates rolled by fish we throw back.
A little bit of a direction where to go down there would be more than appreciated
Id swap a good boat load of fish for a carton of the good oil
Cheers

moore river today
Submitted by cobia15 on Sun, 2013-01-20 16:20Hit moore river this morning at 530. Bit of weed but very fishable. Nailed a 40cm tailor second cast with the new beach outfit. 12ft sensor surf/saltist 4500H. Saw a couple of nice ones caught but went quiet within an hour of getting there. Couple of hours later i nailed what i think is a little bronzie, it went airbourne, jumped and summersaulted like a barra..It put up a great little fight and released back after a quick pic (much to the horror of a family frolicking in the surf 20 mtrs away) Can anyone confirm its a bronzie ?

always take the gaff or net
Submitted by thebmac on Sun, 2013-01-20 13:41learnt a valuable lesson today. hooked onto another unusual fish for these parts. launched the boat from my local quick drive bit of birley in only 8m of water. got 3 kg whitings. all around the mark. then hooked onto something that started screaming away. managed to turn it and after 4 or 5 good runs on really light gear up came a cobia!!!!! looked around for the gaff........no gaff. looked for the net...... no net. the cobia would have pushed the legal limit, and an estimate of 3-4 kilos. with only 8lb line and 10lb leader i couldnt just lift it in. so i ended up losing it trying to grab the tail. so lesson learnt.... dont forget the bloody gaff or net. :-(

setting drag
Submitted by Boppo on Sun, 2013-01-20 12:11When you are setting your drag I have heard that you should go to about 1/3rd of the breaking strain of the line. eg, 15kg line should have a drag of 5 kg, 24kg line at 8kg etc... When using scales to do this should you pull straight off the reel or through a loaded/bent rod?

Mixed Bag of Seafood Delights
Submitted by Seaquest on Sun, 2013-01-20 10:43Had a good day yesterday catching and collecting a bit of everything. Lamby had timmbo down so the plan was to do a couple of dives and see what we could find. First dive was on the west coast where the boys managed to find a few crays and Nizzy found a couple of green lips. After that the wind eased off a bit allowing us to venture out and grab a couple of dhuies. Next was to have a look for a few scollops in the bay. Only found a few on a normally productive spot. There was heaps of empty scollop shells around which was unusual. Ended the day having a few beers and a feed from the days efforts.

Warning buzzer on yamaha 40 2-stroke
Submitted by Boppo on Sun, 2013-01-20 09:09Have the warning buzzer going on my yammy 40. Could be either oil filter blocked, too low oil in the reservoir (It was down to a fifth) , over heating due to buggered impellar, thermostat.
The tell tale is strong and not hot, just as it should be so I'm thinking that maybe the impeller is good. Could it still be the thermostat? I will fill the oil up and clean the filter.
If anyone can shed some light onto this it would be much appreciated
