Trolling Mindarie to Mandurah on the Floating Gin Palace
Submitted by JohnF on Mon, 2011-04-18 13:52Me, Daz, my old man and my bro in law spend a very pleasant weekend taking the old mans Riviera "The Floating Gin Palace" back down to Mandurah after having use of it for the past 3 weeks.....it will be hard going back to the 17 ft Trailcraft!!!!
The Riviera was excellent, a luxurious way to go trolling, thats for sure. Basically trolled from Mindarie to Rotto Friday, moored at rotto Friday night then trolled and jigged all the way to Mandurah Saturday. Was pretty windy Friday night with 20knot north easterlies, so was quite choppy in Thompson bay, but we all had a few nightcaps at the pub so slept OK.

GoPro question
Submitted by mullows on Mon, 2011-04-18 11:51Hi Guys
I have ordered one of these for the Easter holidays, however as we are going to the Monties I am not going to have the computer to charge the battery (thats how I understand you charge it anyway). Question is.... can you charge it with a 12v plug and is it specific to the unit or can I charge it with another appliance 12v?
Cheers

Outboard Servicer/ checker in fremantle..?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Mon, 2011-04-18 06:30Hi all
Im looking at taking the step and buying the first "real" boat. Ive spent a fair bit of time looking and have found something that im pretty keen on, but the only problem is I live in Carnarvon and the boat is in fremantle. That in itself isnt a problem, Ive got people who are prepared to go and look at it, and if necisary, do the bargaining for me, but they dont know a whole lot about boats. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place in the freo area I could arrange to take it and get the outboard checked over, similar to the RAC check they do on cars etc...?
thanks guys, bit of an urgent one this one, any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Anybody see 60 minutes covering marine sanctuary's tonight?
Submitted by Lamby on Sun, 2011-04-17 20:39To me it appeared usual media sensationalism was employed & the only person whom I thought actually provided a valid discussion was given a 10 second time slot. What took place next from a pro fishing perspective was rather embarrassing & quite clearly handpicked to tarnish our reputation.
We need to become more media savvy putting forward more articulate & measured spokespeople before we are crucified. Enough is enough!

Catching occies from shore
Submitted by cuthbad on Sun, 2011-04-17 18:21Guys im looking for some fresh occy for a feed as well as bait. I have hooked them by accident on occasion but im looking for a more reliable method. I have read a bit about a method used in other countries where red strips of cloth are tied to either a gaff or 2 large hooks on some heavy line. This is dropped into rock holes on low tide in hopes the occy comes out to defend his hole and you can jag him.
Anyone heard of this before?
Any other ideas?
Thanks

for the squid fishos
Submitted by gumnut on Sun, 2011-04-17 16:10so i have done some squidding in the past - never had outstanding success..and to be honest the last few times ive been the guy who goes home empty handed and frustrated and walks past people with buckets with a dozen+ squid in them.
Im down south near bunbury and go squidding off the busso jetty
I have used the search function on this site and done reading and had a read on squidfishing.net so i dont want you to think im being lazy haha ive done some research!
i see people using a float with the squid on a metre or two trace, ive seen people chuck out a jig and wait, ive seen people jigging and trawling and ive used all the methods with about the same success. (not much)
Ive seen people use glow sticks above their jigs.
what do you guys recommend?
i have attached pics of my jigs - is it that i have crappy jigs?
also with their sizes - is it the number on the bit of lead?
sorry about all the newby questions guys and i appreciate your advice
i am going out again tonight off the jetty with my bro and i will put up a report tomorrow letting you know how i went!
their sizes are 4.0, 4.0, 3.5 and 4.0
are they too big/small?

After Easter... south coast or west coast?
Submitted by lunker on Sun, 2011-04-17 14:08Hey guys, I'm way overdue for a couple of days off so a mate and I are keen on a couple of days fishing, drinking and carrying on. Will be heading down the wednesday after Easter so hopefully everything isnt too crowded still...
Anyways we want to travel south maybe 4 hours tops, so probably max walpole area. Would love to get into some salmon but really, at a minimum just looking for a good spot on the coast to pitch a tent and relax with a rod out.
Does anyone have any spots they recommend? Have a 4x4 but nothing too hardcore as its only a standard bravo. Would you guys suggest west coast between Augusta/yallingup or south coast between augusta/walpole?
Thanks for any input!!

How much line for jigging and bottom bashing?
Submitted by Cameron71 on Sun, 2011-04-17 10:08I have a powerspell PE4-8 and need to work out what reel is going on it.
I am planning to get some of Till's PE5/70lb and use this as a heavy outfit. Would run the PE6 if I can get enough of it onto a reel which doesn't weigh a ton.
I have a Torsa 20 but am concerned that I won't get enough braid on it for the weight of the thing (awesome reel but).
How much braid do you guys recommend, assuming that on a charter I end up dropping in 150m?
