spheros 14000fb drag up grade
Submitted by calstar on Sun, 2013-06-16 19:47Hey guys. Was curious to know if anybody has added carbontex washers to a Spheros 14000 before?Im fishing 37kg powerpro through it on a Samurai pop 10 rod. With the reel locked up the original washers are pretty good but feel a few extra kg would be better. Will i get this out of carbontex washer upgrade.Your thoughts would be appreciated.

magnesium reels
Submitted by new age on Sun, 2013-06-16 19:21Has any one had any trouble with magnesium spin reels? Ive heard some blokes dont wash them with water they use salt away? To my mind i think it just depends on what sort of anti corrosion treatment they use on the magnesium but just keen to hear what you blokes reckon?

Golden Ponds
Submitted by catchalittle on Sun, 2013-06-16 17:03After a bit of nagging from the wife took the kids down to golden ponds today boy things have changed down there $10 entry for adults even if you dont fish and $5 for kids not that the kids were intending on keeping any fish but was advised that it was $20 per kilo if you wanted to keep any fish (wtf) the kids did catch a couple of small trout the ponds themselves were pretty murky and one looked like a slime pit.
Last time we were down there we did end up buying a bit of fruit and veg but I was too afraid to ask what their price increase was for them wont be going back there again they charge like a wounded bull would have been cheaper to have taken the boat out
First Fish in a While
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2013-06-16 16:13With my new job being a 4&1 roster there hasnt been alot of time for fishing, on the week off its been crap!!
so i made a late call thursday to take of to Jurien for a couple of days with my 2 boys Troy & Blake,
quick ring around and had us a nice little duplex to rent for $100p/n,so pack the boat and where gone 3am friday morn.
Straight to the ramp and heading out on first light.
we decided to hit up the wrecks first for some much missed Jigging action.........
first drop were all on, you name it, all the usals are there and their hungry!!!
plenty of sambos, ambers and some pinkys coming from there, jigging bug well and truly scatched.
also forgot to take pics of the amber for the board...DOH
my big mulla at 119cm, going into the record board!!
time to head out deeper and chase the good stuff!
again the fish were on the chew with non stop action, we would of bagged out easily by 9am, but because of the action
most size fish were released chasing bigger!!
Biggest Dhu for Friday going to me @ 84cm
we fished all day to make the fishing time worth while, even to the stage of 60cm Baldys being returned, i thought the day was unreal and couldnt get much better????????
well it did!!
Saturday morn were out on first light again, the plan was to head in the oppersit dirrection and start at the 40-50's, again the fish were on the chew but smaller.
still bagged out easily by 10am, we continued releasing fish chasing bigger and more time on the water.
thought i had made a bad move because it went quiet for a couple of hours and it looked like we were going home with 3 fish at 1pm.
the boys were hounding me to go to the fads...joys of being skipper, i pulled rank and went my way...lol...suckers!!
i think they will agree it was a good move, found some ground and it went off for the next 2 hours.
Pinkys, baldys, dhuys, redthroats, huge skippy all coming over the side on jigs and bait with bait doing 90%of the damage.
we all lost a good fish each with me calling mine for a horse dhuy, seen colour and it was looking BIG!!! and then the hooks pulled&%#$(*&^% i said.
then troy loads up with another good fish, calling it for a big dhuy.....so be it!!
went 104cm and 18kg on some dodgy sacles, no where near as fat as his other one from a while back.
blake got into the biggest pinks going 65cm and he also got dragged by a so called shark for 20mins...lol
his biggest skippy for the day @ 55cm
a differant view of my mulla, you can do some great things with the iphones.
all in all what a great 2 days fishing with my boys, well and truly worth the wait.
now to do it all again in 4 weeks???
cheers ron

Couple of Pics from Friday and Saturday
Submitted by kelsea on Sun, 2013-06-16 08:30Punched out on Friday on my mates boat through wind chop to be out in the 40 metre mark. We tryed drifting but were moving over the ground far to quickly. My mate took one for the team nad did his utmost to hold me over the ground. What a champion bloke he is as I hooked up and landed my PB baldie. I didn't weigh it but it came in at 60cm. We moved on to another hole and I caught a 52cm Dhuie. The days catch ended up being a sambo, black arse, 2 skippy, flathead, baldie and a dhuie.
I went out the next day with the wife and sister in laws partner. The weather wa a bit better but the sounder wsn't working. Went to my honey hole and landed a 70cm 6.2kg Dhuie. None of the pics do any of the fish justice. We neded up catching 7 dhuies with only the one being size and all of them swimming back down under their own steam.
I was really happy with my two days of fishing as the last month and a half have been crap for me. I haven;t been able to get out due to work commitments and when I could het out the weather was most unkind.

Fish from the Moles and rigs.
Submitted by PattoMelon on Fri, 2013-06-14 16:21G'day blokes,
Went out last weekend to the North mole for a fish and it didnt end to well. There was nothing running, A couple of people got really small fish and a couple of blowies.
Myself and my mate got absolutely nothing, Ontop of that. I ended up losing 1 of my new lures. Which im a little shitty about lol. But that is a risk i ran fishing off the rocks.
Curious which mole would be better to fish off, This time of year. North mole ? Or the other part in the southern part of Freo ?
Im looking to switch to bait if im fishing off the rocks, that why im only losing hooks. Not lures, What set up would you suggest? (Gang, Single, Double etc.) Would mullies do the job to catch all the species out there, Or would a bit of variety help ?
Cheers,
Patto.
This kid is awesome.

Best battery for 90HP 4 stroke Merc?
Submitted by Guardy on Fri, 2013-06-14 08:51I recently went to replace the existing #1 battery with a like for like as it wasn't starting my outboard. The model had changed from 460 to 530 CCA which I though was good. But it still won't start the engine. I checked my #2 battery and it is the same, a 460 CCA. I had never checked them individually before as I always started the engine with both batteries (I know, stupid of me not to check). That was how I was told to start it when I bought the boat. And, before anyone asks, yes the batteries are fully charged.
So my question is what size battery should I have?

Looking for a Travel Rod 4-6 pieces
Submitted by Buz on Thu, 2013-06-13 23:06Gday all. Have been looking for a very compact travel rod to take with me on an overseas holiday to match to my Stradic 3000FJ. Would like it to compact down as small as possible possibly 4-6 pieces. Don't want a Telescopic Rod though.
Did some looking around on FWrecked search and it seems alot of people recommended Nitro 007 traveller 6 piece rods(other than their price).
So does anyone know off the top of their head who might sell these locally? Will ring around all the tackle Stores myself, but just in case someone can save me the ringing around.
Or alternatively does someone know an alternative rod/brand that would be just as good? Would like the packed down rod to be no longer than say about 40-50cm, so think it would have to be 4-6 pieces as I had a look at a Shimano Raider 3 piece and while a good rod it was a bit too long packed up for what I am looking for.
Or alternatively again, if anyone has a 4-6 piece travel rod that would suit a Shimano Stradic 3000FJ that they would be willing to sell I would be very interested.
Thanks, Buz.
