Jurien weather this weekend
Submitted by tigerfish on Wed, 2013-06-12 21:03Decided to head away somewhere this weekend with the missus and figured it might be a good opportunity to sample the fishing up at Jurien in my recently completed project boat. However, I'm still a bit green when it comes to sea fishing/boating and just looking for some opinions on what the weather and seas will be like up there on Sat/Sunday.
I've checked out seabreeze - Lancelin showing just under 2m swell and E/SE winds around 10knts. Is JB likely to be about the same? ANd what sort of seas would this make for up there? I'm not going to be heading out far (haven't got the fuel capacity yet), so prob just looking at hanging around in the bay area and maybe out the back of some of the close-in reef just north of the islands and target some snapper, whiting squid etc.
SOrry for the 'hand-holding' type question....just that it is a long way to drag the boat (and missus) to have a s**t day out or not get out at all.

Super budget, compact rod to throw under the car seat
Submitted by Mars2atk on Wed, 2013-06-12 16:54Hey everyone,
Thought I'd share something I stumbled across in my junk mail. I remember seeing ads for these a few years ago, and while they're obviously not the best rods by far, I figured it was something I could just keep under the passenger seat in the Pulsar for my little nephew to play around with when we go on little adventures out and about. I remember having a telescopic rod when I was a kid and thinking it was the most amazing thing ever.
For about $25 all up including shipping, I figured it was worth a shot. And since it's telescopic, I don't have to worry about accidently snapping the rod when absent mindedly filling up the boot with junk. Being stuck in the car with a grumpy 7 year old is not pleasant!

Exmouth Boys Bucks Trip, advice on games, challenges etc
Submitted by spook on Tue, 2013-06-11 21:54Howdy people, My brother has decided to get married and his bucks night is going to be an Exmouth trip for 2 weeks in february as he gets married in march.
I wanted to ask for ideas on a few fun things I could organise over the trip. Sherbs spoke about everyone using those pink kids rods to try and land small GTs/queenies for an afternoon which I'll be doing. They're the sort of ideas I'm looking for and I'm sure there is going to be some pearlers out there. Even something to fill in time up there if we get a cyclone or 55 degree northerlies.
We have 3 boats and about 8 guys going(25-30yrs), we also do a lot of land-based fishing.
Thanks, Brent

My first WA squid
Submitted by Tchampney on Tue, 2013-06-11 19:12Me and the missus went to get a line wet in the boat this afternoon launched at port kenedy boat ramp at around 1:30pm. Spent most of the afternoon drifting sand patches between the dense weed beds caught a lot of butter fish and some nice size sand whiting, but the elusive squid had not shown yet. Around 4:39pm the float on the hand reel flew under water, my adrenilan rushed as I thought it could be my first squid. As I pulled it in saw this whopper attached to the squid jig a couple of metres behind the float. My catch of the day!

Chicken run
Submitted by Noxious on Tue, 2013-06-11 12:24Hey fellas
Was considering heading up to coral bay this weekend with a mate a towing the boat up (2100 Whittley). Weather doesn't look all the great, so we will probably stay in Perth.
I haven't fished around rotto for the last 2 months. Mainly been fishing behind Garden Island (FFB) and a little bit out of the hale road reef system. Fishing for me has been a bit hit and miss, getting some good fish and some quiet days.
Thinking about doing a bit of trolling at the chicken run this saturday, <2m swell and light winds. Has anyone been doing alright out there? Probably push out a little wider too.
Cheers,
Alex

risky sunday but worth it.
Submitted by nicmaddogg on Tue, 2013-06-11 06:36Sunday weather was meant to be good but that didnt happen.
Me and a couple of mates headed off 2 rocks looking for some fresh ground and hopefully get some fish. Our original destination was Key Biscayne Oil Rig but the weather wouldnt allow the 5.6m centre consol to handle as we liked.
we decided to turn back and have a look for some ground abit closer to shore and only about 30kms north of 2 rocks.
we were driving in closer to the shore when we seen what looked to be a wierd shape on the sounder.
stopped had a sound around and there was fish.
so down we went, mates first drop got a nice 54cm pinkie. as he was getting that sorted my rod loaded up and up came a 69cm dhui.
stoked as the last 3 times ive been out, ive got dhuis.
after dealing with both fish and putting em on ice, we got back on the spot, down went my rig and within seconds it was loaded to a nice king george. 53cm.
it all went quiet until about 12 then the bite was on. Mate pulled up another nice sized king george and about 5 minutes after that, my rod loaded again. I thought you beauty another dhui. Up came a 71cm dhui.
All in All weather was shithouse but the feed that we got that night was sensational
cheers

Best value for money Bream sticks
Submitted by the_dude84 on Mon, 2013-06-10 19:09I will be in the market for another bream combo soon
(Thanks Mr Tax Man). It'll be used for chucking little hardbodies and plastics into the snags from my tinny. Preferably rated 1-3kg and matched with a 1000 size shimano reel. Just wanted peoples opinions on the rods aroung the 150 mark or less, as I would like to add a nice reel to it with out spend more then about 400 for the pair.

Furuno FCV-288
Submitted by JoRn on Mon, 2013-06-10 17:12Hi Guys,
Just recently come back from a holiday in Asia and went looking at some boating electronics. Wasnt intending too, but was introduced by a family member as we discussed fishing and the likes.
Anyway, the next day went to catch up with them and they were still behind in times with the current model being a 627 and 585. However those were out of stock and he brought out a Furuno FCV-288.
From what i gathered, these are the Asia version of the 295. with exception of the bonded screen and the ability to run any frequency between 38 -200. this model is stuck on 50 and 200.
i have attached the specs, can any of you furuno gurus see if i am missing anything else between the 295.
this cost me about 2200 + tax which includes a 1kw 50hz tranny, and you can add a 200hz for quite cheap as well.
are the above difference a deal breaker for this?
