Fishing Charters and accomodation
Submitted by Lucky Last Cast on Thu, 2013-01-24 18:07It makes me wonder why some people book in for a fishing charter not only during the school holidays but on a long weekend and expect to get accomodation at the last minute.
We would like to remind everyone if you are heading up here to go on one of our charters and are expecting to stay overnight we suggest booking accomodation at the same time as you book a charter.
On our website www.luckylastcast.com it has links to accomodation here in Jurien Bay.
There is also camping grounds in Sandy Cape which is aprox 12 kls out of Jurien which is a really nice spot to stay however they do not have showers. We have seen large caravans as well as motor homes camped up in there so larger vehicles do fit!
Jurien Bay council also offer a over flow camping ground when it is needed. If you want to enquire about the over flow camping ground you can do so by calling the Dandaragan Council here in Jurien Bay.
We would also like to inform you all that we offer gift vouchers which can be emailed to you for you to print off at home and give to your loved one!
We look forward to meeting some of you fisherman and fisher ladies soon!
Tight lines everyone
Dave and Kate

Artificial Reefs
Submitted by big john on Thu, 2013-01-24 17:27Be interested to see how these progress. Should be an annual thing I reckon where Recreational Fishing Licence money supports the establishment of two new reefs each year in different regions of WA.

Last chance to be heard
Submitted by big john on Thu, 2013-01-24 15:24Not sure if this has been posted recently, but can't hurt even if it has.
Last chance to have a say about Burkes Marine Park proposals, who knows we may change his mind about fishing the 'Perth Canyon' aka Rottnest Trench.

WANTED - skippy from Geraldton, Abrolhos, Shark Bay
Submitted by Glenn Moore on Thu, 2013-01-24 14:36I am involved in a project looking at trying to identify different species of skippy (Silver Trevally, not Sand Trevally) on the west coast. We are chasing skippy from the northern part of their range - from Geraldton, Abrolhos , Shark Bay or anywhere even further north than that! We are interested in anything really, but especially interested in getting some from deeper water (40m +) up that way.
Can anyone help with some donations?
PM if you prefer
Cheers,
Glenn

Light OH jigging reel opinions
Submitted by mw87 on Wed, 2013-01-23 20:24Hi everyone,
Im looking to purchase a new light demersal jigging combo for jigs 80-120g being used in 30-50m... The reels I am considering at the moment are the Shimano Ocea Jigger 1500PG or the JM Powerspell PE3. Possibly the Trinidad 16A could get a look in, but it is a lot heavier than the OJ with similar specs.
I understand that quite a few guys on here own the OJ and seem to rate them, but I am a little concerned on the longevity of the 8kg drag rating once a few decent dhus or sambos have been hooked, and the fact there seems to be no upgrade available for the 1500. The star drag will be a new experience on a jigging reel for me also, but of less importance. On the other hand though there seems to be little feedback or user reviews at all for the JM and Trinidad.
If my concerns for the drag were put to rest I'd probably prefer the OJ, so any feedback on that point would be helpful. Any experiences at all with using the others would be appreciated, as the JM seems a solid unit.
Cheers.

Species list
Submitted by Justo82 on Wed, 2013-01-23 19:07So, I've been fishing for about 2 years, and I absolutely love it. I'm learning so much every time I go out. In that time I think I've done quite well, originally starting off boat fishing, and then going land based as well.
So far I've done well on the following species
whiting
king George whiting
flat head
herring
pink snapper
dhu fish
skippy
Gummies
leather jacket
sambos
and plenty of undesirables.
what I really want to get into is some baldies, marks, tuna, and tailor. Any pointers would be great.
Thanks

Go Pro accesories
Submitted by SandGroper84 on Wed, 2013-01-23 12:46Gday members,
I've just got myself a Go Pro (hero 2) to try and get some footage of some of the fish I catch, just wondering where the majority of you guys and girls get your accesories from? I'm not overly keen on purchasing online due to a couple bad experiences, so I suppose the real question is, what Perth based store is best for buying accesories? Any help would be much apprieciated.
Regards
Matt

Tackle Wallet
Submitted by buddharock on Wed, 2013-01-23 09:14Hi All,
I've been doing a bit of reserch on the internet trying to find tackle/rig wallets that have heavy duty snap lock bags attached and can only find one that ships from the UK. The postage is a bit steep so looking for a local/Australian option. Any ideas?
Went out last night with a mate for tailor from the beach. While I got nothing, he picked up a couple of thumpers, one close to 60-65 cm and a suicidal herring. I'll post a picture when he sends it through.
Thanks

More south coast fish
Submitted by Chris fish on Tue, 2013-01-22 23:11Managed to get out a few times lately chasing a lot of different things, haven't targeted big sharks for a bit so I focused on just having some fun on squid, bream, diving/ spearfishing and looking for some new spots, found an awesome ledge that I'm going to helium balloon from for southern bluefin or maybe a Mack ( fair few Spanish and shark Mack's have been seen lately and a few caught), went for a dive Sunday morning and did ok with a horse queeny and nice grouper from bad vis so wasn't to bad either.
The next few weekends I'll be after some big sharks so hopefully I'll get some photos and the salmon are starting to show with schools passing by every few days at most of the good beaches with some huge fish going 10kg.

Fishing in Shark Bay
Submitted by Wellovadhu on Tue, 2013-01-22 21:07Hi guys, I have a few questions about Shark Bay Denham hopefully someone out there can help. I have a small aluminium runabout 4.75m quintrex coast runner with a 50hp honda on the back. Im looking at holidaying in Shark Bay around late July. Is this a good time of year to go for fishing weather conditions? Will my boat be big enough to get around to steep point, what sort of fishing is on offer within the relatively calm waters of the bay and my final question is there a possibility of catching palagics within a few nautical miles of Denham without having to go all the way out to the west side of dirk hartog island. Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers.

3 Mile swoffas
Submitted by Seekakkerlak on Tue, 2013-01-22 18:46I am new to the forum and recently got a tinny and mainly fish the 3 mile around Hillarys and Ocean Reef with a fly rod. I have noted some other part time swoffas on here and was wondering if there were other’s that waive the fly around on the 3 mile reef and what has been your experience and success or failure. As for me I have not had that much success mainly some reef fish but I am enjoying the challenge and navigating around the 3 mile.
Hope to hear from some of the other swoffas out there.

ARB STEEL ROOF RACK RESTORE JOB
Submitted by Belly88 on Tue, 2013-01-22 16:48Hey Guys and Girls,
Gearing up slowly for the big round Aus trip towards the end of there year, and a mate of mine gave me a ARB steel roof rack......cheers mate :-)
One small problem.......it has a bit of surface rust so it really needs a sand back and repaint.
So i decided id give it a go.......after about a hour of sanding i realised that it really isnt a job for someone with my patience and lack of tools.
So my question is does anybody know anyone who would maybe sand blast and respray or similar and could give me a rough price or any other ideas or is it just not worth the trouble??
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Cheers Belly....
