Im heading there tomorrow ultimately id love to catch a tuna or mackeral but can you catch any fat sand whiting around there??

Are there sandy patches 100m or so away from the reef? anything from 10-30m depth.

Just had a rather frustrating morning trying to register a second hand trailer and hoping someone who has been through the same rigour might have some advice.

First of all I have a Magictilt trailer for a composite 21ft boat. The trailer was an import and has had the guards brought in to bring it to within the Aus measurements.

The traielr has 4 wheel mechanical surge (overrides) disc breaks although for the ease of registration I only have the front 2 wheels connected.

My first issue came when taking it to get registered. The mechanic was adament that override breaks on only 1 axle was only rated to 1250 aggregate. Having registered many boat trailers in the past this seemed bull to me. I have always been of the impression that over ride disc breaks on the front axles is fine for up to 2 ton.

My second issue was what the maximum aggregate weight I wanted to register on the trailer. According to ADR 38/02 and VSB 15.2, both guidelines state that breakaway brakes and 4 wheel brakes are only required on trailers over 2 ton GTM. If you look at the GTM definition it is the weight of the boat whilst connected to the vehicle. So for instance if your boat weighs 2.2ton over all but you have a 250kg's on the ball weight then the GTM weight is only 1950kgs and under the 2 ton limit. Therefore it was my view that the aggregate weight on your trailer should be 2.25ton as that is the maximum rated weight the trailer can carry without breakaway brakes (2ton on the wheels and 250kg on the ball weight). 

The third issue I had was they are refusing to register the trailer as a Magic tilt brand instead saying that I am now the manufacturer and it has to be under my name. I am not happy about this because really I am not the manufacturer, I am the owner and I do not want that trailer under my name as who knows 10 years down track perhaps something might break, kill someone and I am responsible as it states I am the manufacturer.  

Has anyone else had any issues when registering an imported trailer or have I just found the only people who dont know the rules. If so is there mechanics anyone can reccomend to see about getting it registered?

Edit: Sorry I know it sounds petty trying to register the max aggregate possible but to be honest when you are doing a big trip 250kg's is alot of extra equipment that you dont have to try and pack into the car

 Today launching my boat at my local ramp, two boats were parked up in the rigging lane buggerising around. these people need to expect to b past by people that already have there shite together? These two clowns then proceded to yell abuse at me once I had parked my car and was on my way back to the boat with the kids!! By the time I had dropped the boat in the water, parked up the car and loaded up the mrs and kids, they still didn't look any closer to being ready to launch! No need for this crap guys I just had a good laugh at em. Hope they forgot to put there bungs in.

 Hey guys im heading to moore river on tuesday for a couple days and was hoping to get a bit of fishing and maybe a few sneaky crabs in aswell, ive only fished there once in my life a couple years ago, is there any fish biting at the moment ? if so what areas should i be going towards and would there be any point in chucking some crab pots down?

Hey guys, 

Because of the variance in depth when hunting crabs around the lower reaches of the swan river do you use one length of rope attached permanently to a float / bouy? If so how long is the optimal length? I've heard of people using different configurations of floats / ropes so that you can take the floats off while transporting the pots and/or change the length of rope whilst crabbing so you dont have massive ammounts of surface line.

 A couple of months ago after hearing about guys fall off there boats, I bought a Personal locator beacon. Its very small and lite, I wear it around my neck on a lanyard anytime that I am on the boat. Considering how much we spend on fishing gear how can you not justify buying one of these....www.acrelectronics.com

I just wanted to say hello.  I have been lurking around this site for a while, but just decided to join up and get involved.

I'm originally from North Qld, but have been living in Perth for two years now. 

I'm a LB fisher for now, and love to go camping at the beach and throw a line in. 

I've gone out a few times close to town here, (South Mole -> Hillaries) but never had much luck, so i need to work on that, but i recently discovered Wilbinga, and that's currently my favorite weekend spot.

Hi, im looking at buying a popping rod for quabba in the wa north.

i've found a punisher warrior popping rod, but never heard anything about them.. The rod looks and sounds mean, carbon fibre blank, sic guides, machined aluminium reel seat and gimbal fitting, and with a cast wieght of 200-500gm.

but ive never geard of a punisher rod before.. Any thoughts or experiences please let me know.

 Hey guys just wondering what line I should put on my Tyrnos 30, I will be using it for ballooning n the summer months and bottom bouncing etc in the winter. Looking at spending around 30-40$ for line. I was thinking putting around 300m of eBay braid as backing and then another 300m of 50lb low stretch. Anyway thanks in advance for ideas.

note: I balloon from woodies point ammo jetty so full braid will get tangled too easily with the million other ballooners there.

It was found washed up on the beach down at Hopetoun.
I did think it may be apart of the Nautilus family, markings are different on this shell.

At the end of March I'm taking off with my wife and two kids for a five month trip around Oz. 

Fishing is obviously making up an important part of the trip and in some cases we're directing our route around certain spots that I want to have a crack at fish (eg coming back down from Canberra to fish Mallacoota and Tamboon Inlet).

It's always good to fish with a local of course so I'm just putting it out there to see if there are any FW members outside of WA who would be happy for me to hit them up when I'm in their area either to see if they're available for a fish while I'm in their neighbourhood or if not then at least for some local intel.

If so, can you post / PM your location and when we're getting close to that part of the world I'll get in touch and we can go from there?
