What size boat do you use to go out deep?
Submitted by Piggy on Mon, 2013-02-04 22:50Hey Gents,
I am relitively new to boating and I wanted to know some opinions on the smallest boat people would take out wide (40 - 50m of water) obviously it will depend on weather, swell ect.
The reason why I ask is that I have just sold my 25ft trophy and I am looking at down sizing. I have looked at boats around the 6m mark and a little smaller... but to me they look a little too small to be taking out where I was going before.
probibly a random question, but I just wanted to know others opinions.
Cheers!

The weekend away to diving paradise.
Submitted by Chris fish on Mon, 2013-02-04 17:11Me and a few mates did a weekend trip away to a very remote south coast beach for some fishing for salmon and sharks and got a few dives in to.
We went to The far headland at the beach with a big swim around 1.5km to the deep water past the sand where the reef and the fish are. The currents where strong on the way back with a very tiring swim even with free diving fins. These 2 days dives made me realize how bad I need a go pro!!
In the time we where in the water we spotted over 100 queenies, 40-50 grouper ranging from 8kg through to some well over 30kg!!, skippy that where easily 5kg+ that could of been classed as small GT's, big harlequin fish and just reef fish in general everywhere!!! It's the sort of place you can tell very few people have ever been to!!. We shot enough for a feed and left the rest for when we come back next time. I also got my pb grouper of around 13kg on spear and some nice queenys well over 70cm.
I have some monster shark photos that we got from the weekend effort but once I've sorted through it all and finished cleaning the sand out of everything I'll throw them up to.

Snorkelling on the three mile with no flag!!!!
Submitted by Andy Mac on Mon, 2013-02-04 15:51Couldn'r believe it coming in on Sunday near Staggies reef. As I powered in doing roughly 25knots looking out for the occaissional cray pot to avoid, I see a little dinghy anchored right adjacent to the reef break mayne 200m away as I go to move inside between him and the reef maybe 80m to port. I suddenly see what looked like two red crayfloats and swerved to ensure I didn't hit any stray ropes. As I get level I notice its a couple of blokes in the water at least 80m from their dinghy with no dive flag and nobody onboard.
Compassion was the overriding emotion as I enquired if they were OK (seeing as they were miles away from their boat.) They waved me on, but then the further away I got from them the more it made me realise just how lucky they were not to have been run down. I sincerely hope they made it back to their boat, otherwise they would have been making an entry into the Darwin Awards for 2013.
Honestly the stupidest place to park and snorkel with no dive flag and be so frigging far from the boat.
Rant over....

look forward to hearing everyones favs...
Photo was taken at the most southern fad yesterday morning at roughly 5-530am....had the fad to our selves tiill roughly 730 8ish went all the gentlemens hours people rock up..headed wide after the spearos runied everything like usual (and before all you spearos say something, these guys didnt wait for the que in the drift, nor did the captain of the boat moove his boat (40 + foot flybridge), but he just idled right next to the fad while 5 guys attempted spearing dollies (for over 30 mins) and shtting everything down). Sharing is caring spearos, I didnt go off at the boats rocking up after us, we just shared and made sure everyone had fun.

thank you very much whitford sea rescue NOT
Submitted by aweall on Sun, 2013-02-03 22:43could not believe the way the skipper of the tanya hall drove today.
i was trolling about 8 ks out when i saw a bloody big boat bearing down on me i slowed right down to let him get past me and he actually changed direction to go behind me we started waving to them and pointing at our rods and he turned to go closer as he cut behind our stern .
needlless to say 80 bucks of lures lost and he abused us when we started swearing at him he then pulled up to a launch which must have broken down as they were arranging a tow.
we couldnt believe that people who should know better would behave like that

Submitted by outdoinit on Sun, 2013-02-03 20:22Back a few months ago we noticed a Fish very similar to the one below..
My wife decided to do this for our grandson who turned 5 today...
He loves fishing and was suprised as when we brought the cake out...
Best peice of fish I have ever tasted and even ate the Scales... LOL
So after much discussion we think it might be a "West Coast Yellow Faced blue finned freckled back cod" and Babies.. LOL

beating radar pingers..?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sun, 2013-02-03 14:19am looking into how to avoid the dreaded pingers.. especially with our local fishing comp in a few months and the usual influx of rich kid boats stealing hard earned spots and a few of the local boy also sporting big white domes on top of their cats etc
have done a quick bit of reading, and apparently glass boats dont show up as readliy as ali, but as guessing a decent radar will still pick up the metal on board...
anyone had any experience with any of this?

LOST KELPIE DOG
Submitted by kbeau28 on Sun, 2013-02-03 11:33HI GUYS SEEN THIS ON GUMTREE AND KNOW IF I LOST MY DOG I WOULD ALSO BE DEVASTATED . AS LOTS OF US ARE ON THE ROAD HEADING OFF FISHING LETS KEEP OUR EYES OUT AND HOPEFULLY SOMEONE SEES "FUDGE"
1200.00 REWARD for missing kelpie "Fudge"
- Date Listed:
- 18/01/2013
- Last Edited:
- 01/02/2013
My 10 yr. old brown & tan Kelpie "Fudge" missing from 12 Mile near Broome on 27/11/12 during thunder storm. Believed was picked up on Great Northern Highway near Roebuck and taken from the area either south (WA) or east (NT) way.
He has classic tan markings and a chocolate brown coat. He has tan circles and a small white tuft or patch between the front legs. His coat sometimes shines reddish in the sun giving him a red dog appearance.
He gravitates to homes and he loves kids, is gentle and should respond to "Fudge" or "Fudgee"
I have searched on properties, tracks and roads for over 3400km around the district from Broome, Roebuck, Willare, Derby and north to James Price Point all to no avail. If you have picked him up or know who has, the reward is yours on his safe return. NO QUESTIONS ASKED
He wil happily travel in a car with his head out the window so he might be in someone else's vehicle (truck or car)
He is scared of thunder so you wil have to secure him with a dog chain. He is very personable with people.
He was wearing a wide, brown collar with a green tag No.1047 (Moyne Shire).
He is my best mate, travel and fishing companion. We were on a trip around Aus. together and I miss him dearly. He will be very distressed without me, we have rarely been apart and I know how he frets when I have had to leave him for a week for work etc.
There are also posts on my FB page and in lost dogs sites and newspapers.
I have tried to notify all communities in the area out to 300 km and more
