Undersize Fish
Submitted by mbusby on Wed, 2013-01-30 15:25So this discussion came up on the weekend ,
To start im not up for keeping undersize fish even sized fish i will release when i have enough for a feed , but in the process of releasing a couple of small herring and whiting and putting back in the ocean , I noticed they werent swimming off.
after a five minutes or so there still struggling and just washing around in tide.Rather than let these fish suffer i promptly killed them and used later for bait . So they did go back to the ocean so to speak but what do you do in this situation .
I dont wanna start a huge argument but should i leave them to suffer and the birds swoop at or can i use them for bait?

?? For the long time offshore fisho's
Submitted by grayzeee on Wed, 2013-01-30 13:16I have heard it said that fish come in cycles through the years.
Personally , having only been chasing demersals offshore for 3-4 years (metro to 2 rox) , I can say that I've caught dhueys most often.
So in order of frequency caught - my list would go
1 - dhueys
2 - BB
3 - baldie's
4 - size pinkies (tons of small ones)
5 - Queeny's
(list doesn't include shit fish)
Do others concur? Also, what used to be the most likely caught and how many years ago?

Submitted by reece on Wed, 2013-01-30 10:27 Went to throw a few small frames in the water lastnight in dunsborough an had a guy from busselton shire go ape s$&t at me and take my photo! ( Didnt appreceate a camara in my face) I normally give them all to fisheries but it was to late for them to pick up an I was leaving early morning. I was told to go pick them up or I'd get a $500 on the spot fine! I told hit I was setting crab baits
and would take them home when I finished. This made him proper flip!!! Swearing and started taking more photos on his phone of my car. I told him if he didn't stop I would give him a $500 on the spot dental bill! All the fuss an a few people had gathered. One of the guys in the crowd asked wot was going on and the guy from the shire explained that he has photo evidence of me litterinf an would take me to court! the random guy snatched the phone and threw it in the wate and ran off!! Absolute legend ![]()

Whitsundays
Submitted by robert1979 on Tue, 2013-01-29 21:42Hello, Heading out to the Whitsundays end of June and chartering a power cat for a week. Anyone got any tips on fishing over there? Thinking we will probably do some trolling (Tuna? Spanish Mackeral?) and a bit of reef fishing. Would be good to hear any suggestions on what gear to bring, what lures to try and also any general areas which are worth a go! Also any other general touristy Whitsundays recommendations?
Cheers

New regulations next month
Submitted by black gen on Tue, 2013-01-29 18:19Just havin a look over the new regulations and there seems to be a few changes
i live in the Gascogne region and it now seems up here we can get 3 reds each (was 2), 3 cod each (was 2) but now only 3 baldies. Total limit of 5 and 3 Pelagics on top of that..
what are people thoughts on the new laws coming in next month?
i still don't like how they have apparently made it easier with statewide regs...each region has specific fish which live there and I feel they need specific regs.i mean how hard is it to read a pamphlet on a new area you go fishing at....???

Hooks- sharpen or not
Submitted by crasny1 on Tue, 2013-01-29 15:07Pasted from Best Tailor hook.
I have read somewhere that you should always sharpen ALL hooks, even chemically sharpened ones. As mentioned below I do get a little OTT when I am after something quality, but I am also lazy with "routine" fun fishing. Just wondered what everyone else does.
"Even chemical sharpened hooks need a bit off attention IMO, even if they feel like you can shave.
I dont bother sharpening hooks for Bread and butter fishing, but when I am after quality I always file the end with a hook sharpener. It only takes a second or 2, and can get rid of burrs that cant be noticed. I call this attention to detail and it has stood the test of time.
When I can be bothered I also sharpen all hooks for whiting fishing, and have noticed an improved bite/hookup rate. Might be more that I fill in the diary when I do something different, and dont when it is run off the mill.
I would be interested in others opinion."
Cheers

Exmouth fishing advice
Submitted by artygunner on Tue, 2013-01-29 13:37Hi Everyone,
Long time reader but first time poster here. I am going to Exmouth with a few of my mates next week and I need some advice. Firstly, we will be fishing in 60+ metres and bottom bashing. I want to try using SPs, but not sure on what size jighead and what type of SP to use. Lumo? Scented? Size? Shad or other?
I want to rig up a padernoster with a snelled bait and also a SP on another hook, will this work? I will also have another rod where I will be working my single SP.
Has anyone had any luck with SPs in this kind of depth? and if so, what am I likely to catch? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

Dirk Hartog Advice
Submitted by Goodz on Tue, 2013-01-29 12:21Just found out the missus has been secretly organising for me to go with my mate to Dirk Hartog for a weeks landbased fishing in late May. Pretty excited to get up there and experience the place and really do some serious lb fishing. As 99% of my fishing these days is from a boat my jigging gear probably won't cut it from the cliffs and beaches up there so after some advice on what set ups are a must have for a trip like this. I am keen to fish for anything and everything!
Also any advice on places to fish around the island are welcome (feel free to private message). My mate has been before so has some idea but there's obviously a lot of coastline around the island to explore.
Cheers for any help!
Oh also and ideas on a good birthday/wedding anniversary present for the missus as it turns out my mate could only book us into the island during my wifes birthday and our wedding anniversary. Woops! Apparently no weekend fishing for me until this trip!

Bream in vasse? (South of busso)
Submitted by Twitch2509 on Tue, 2013-01-29 08:28Hello.
There is a creek running through vasse (small town near busselton)
I believe it is called dawsons creek. Near to the river mouth i have seen some kind of bream. What kind of bait do they prefer and what rig should I use? Also if you have heard of or fished there what kind of fish do you think I will find?
thanks for your time.

Sufix matrix pro
Submitted by PT on Mon, 2013-01-28 20:36Hey guys, i just grabbed a spool of 8lb sufix matrix pro off gumtree.
it replaces the 10lb fireline i had on my stradic ci4 and ive gotta share that im absoluitely sold on this shit aha.
its rediculously thin, like 0.1mm and flys off the spool with absolutely no resistance, all in all the best $20 ive ever spent and literally a million times better than fireline.
i can throw a zman with a 1/16 jighead a mile and a half with it

Danny Green might be in a bit of strife ?
Submitted by Dizzy on Mon, 2013-01-28 18:37Just saw this on Facebook
He's caused quite a commotion, with plenty saying they've reported it to fisheries.
Must be close to the 700mm Dorsal/Interdorsal limit with Danny being 6'1" / 185cm and all ?
Probably not the best idea to post the pic, let alone lie down next to it like this ....

Leeman catches
Submitted by mbusby on Mon, 2013-01-28 13:49Best oz day fishing ever. ,
So iv been a short time member here and have got some great help from people, and thanks to that help had a fantastice time o\ver the weekend,
I went up to leeman for the weekend and was suggested to check out a nearby place we'l call spot x , well from sunrise the herring and tailor were firing with a few flounder and skippy and darts and a few others but the whiting just weren't interested in any of our offerings.
Sunset came along and we berllied pretty heavy and the tailor came on strong and fast for the best part of two hours all 40cm plus and a couple of 60cm ones too.
After sunset the tailor went off the bite but we still pulled a a few stragglers ,but i decided it was time to step up the gear and use herring fillets and see what was about
After about 30 minutes the lines started to get sniffed then the best three hours of pulling in rays shovel nose and my first shark .
Not sure what it is yet but will post pics soon as they get emailed to me .
Can I just say a huge thanks to everyone at fish wrecked for being such and informative place and thankyou to Buschy for "location x"
For all that have been there and been run off the shark I landed was about 1.7m and atleast 40 kg and although we didn't land them I saw rays easily 2m across
planning on taking the boat up in a couple of weeks and see if I can get a dhui
