Rod for Saltiga 6000 GT
Submitted by fishing fanatic on Thu, 2012-06-14 10:49Hey guys if you had a Saltiga 6000 GT filled with 85 pound accudepth hyper pe braid on it what rod would you buy for it?
But the combo wont really be used for jigging it will be more for soft plastics, bottom bouncing maybe tralling, and even for un weight baits for sharks. i was thinking the S-extreme 56 xhfs saltiga rod just cause the two would match up. also other combos already owend are a terez 30-50 pound with a stella 5000 and 50 pound hyper pe. and a saltiga 4500 with 30 pound hyper pe on a pe 2-3 saltiga rod.
Btw this is just out of curiosity for a mate who just bought it and has those combos not for me :P. I suggested a smith rod like the nirari 55 but yeah what would you do?

us WA fishos arent so bad
Submitted by fisharoo on Thu, 2012-06-14 07:51hi guys, ( in response to a recent post abt WA fishso having a bad name)during a commercial break on a foxtel fishing show it had a ad for starlos new website. so i went to check it out.
what i found was fishos over east are posting photos of esky full of kingfish and a floor full of kgs n other fish. sure they are keeping within their limits, but it makes me think of when is the last time someone posted a photo of an esky full of sambos and big fish kills.
i think that our attitudes towards rec fishing is far more ahead than other states give us credit for. ive fished with heaps of people recently and not 1 is concerned about the amount of fish they kill, but rather just having a good day out.
ive even been on a boat recently when one of my mate got a 60cm plus dhuie, patted on the head and he said to the fish before releasing it ' go make more babies '.(this is after a dud session btw)
happy fishing

The big blow x2
Submitted by Meteorite on Thu, 2012-06-14 07:21Was just wondering , besides stirring up a shedload of weed and eroding the dunes at the beach , what effect do you think the storms will have on the fish offshore ? Will it bring the snapper or dhu in a bit ? ( any ore than they already are ) or push them out ? Or do nothing ?
Ps Carlton are facing an even bigger storm tonight at subiaco

squid jigs and octo jigs
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2012-06-13 23:52Just hoped off a plane from the east and resorted to an eastern states fishing magazine to read on the flight home. read a couple of articles, one about squidding, which recommended daiwa esmeraldas md squid jigs and one about deep jigging for reef species (eg snapper) that recommended 'octo' jigs which are a weighted soft rubber covered jig that imitates an octopus or squid. the author said that very little technique is required as the preferred movement is slowly across the bottom, with an occassional slow lift and drop back to the bottom. The squid jig i reckon i'll find if a look in any decent tackle shop, but i haven't come across the latter (not that I have been looking). anyone seen / used these?

Best setup for chasing reds + bottom bashing
Submitted by Braxi on Wed, 2012-06-13 14:49Hi,
I am looking for a bottom bouncing setup that is strong enough and holds enough line for chasing reds and bottom dwelling species but light enough to give me a good challenge. I am trying to lighten a lot of my gear for a bit more sport. Been using a Calcutta 400TE on a Shimano 5-8kg Ian Miller Raider lately but might need to go a bit heavier when I go out deeper for chasing reds. Any ideas? Thanks.

Destroyed a Saltiga drag cap (Video)
Submitted by K_willo on Tue, 2012-06-12 19:38Recently returned from a trip from steep point, had a fun time catching sharks off the beach till.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QCGOxK4nPs&feature=plcp
The spool is a studio ocean mark, even after putting another saltiga spool back on the drag still feels terrible. taking a closer look at the drag cap reveals that its had parts of it carved out.
has anyone else heard of this?
probably my fault for continually tightening the drag. Shark was a suspected 3m whaler we'd see earlier that night.

Quobba fishing report ( no photos yet)
Submitted by Zack2379 on Tue, 2012-06-12 11:03Hey everyone as you might know went for a 2 and a bit week quobba trip. the swell and winds were all in favour for once with earsterlies pretty much around for the whole 2 weeks. but saddly the sharks decided to want to play abit more this year. hooking fish wasnt the problem up thier it was getting them away from the sharks quick enough, in speaking that we had in total 34 hook ups on balloons and spinning and get this 6 mackeral were landed 2 cobia and a 9 kg tailor. at one stage i thought the inital hook up was a shark because as my line started peeling i looked at my balloon and all i saw was brown and splashes. i my self got 2 mackeral biggest being 17kg and the other just under 13kg. plenty of other species were caught like spangies, afew pinkies for a change, trevelly, finger marks, spanish flags, bluebone, parrot fish and the odd baldie.
when we go up we tend to do things abit differently than other member that go up thier. other people like to sit there all day with a beer and a balloon out waiting for a hook up and their happy to do that but we tend to fish from about 5:30 6 till about 1ish and afterthat go back to camp get a feed and head off around the coast for the afternoon. when we do that i always pack my flickie and afew twisties and nuclear chickens to cast over loverly looking holes which probly are rarely fished. this year just doing that in the afternoons i caught some prettty amazing fish like tailor parrotfish pinkies cudas types of snappas trevelly and some hookups which i think need some heavier gear as i had to re-spool my flickie about 3 or 4 times.
overall was the best trip had so far if it wasnt for the sharks would have had alot more pictures to show but to be 100% honest this is the reason why they say catching fish i abonus because there isnt a much better spot to be than the quobba coast watching whales doing areals 20 meters of whistlers and dolfins rounding up bait balls is an expeirance you only get in special places. i will put some pictures up later tonight or tomorrow night depending if my house is still standing:)
comment would be good to know if you been up their recently and noticed the amount of sharks are actually more than normal

fishing tonight
Submitted by Redemperor000 on Mon, 2012-06-11 20:22hey all
pakced up the gear to head to north mole tonight for a snapper fish, first time this season going for the snapper only to get there and to see it closed, first time iv seen it closed. water was rough as, after deciding we couldnt be too bothered going anywhere else for snapper we decided to go for a quick fish in east fremantle in the river. only had about 5 casts around the pylons before the rains came but managed a big skippy, 2 big tarwine and a bust off by somin bigger that we assumed to be a big bream or another large skippy. i dont fish the river at all but was quite suprised to see that amount of quality fish in such little time. will defenatly go back their. also does any one know how rough in terms of swell or wind that the north mole gets closed off??
