Rigging up Witch Doctor / Dillfish teaser
Submitted by BigClarky on Mon, 2012-05-28 11:02Hey Lads,
Wanted to see how everyone riggs up their Witch Doctors / Dillfish teasers when trolling.
Over the years I have just used a simple rope setup, but noticed some of the boys are running a small Barrell D-Shackle or Snap Barrel Swivel to the teaser to get correct action , then heavy duty rope of that. Also seen some people running 500 pound leader line to hook up there witch doctors and dillfish teasers.
Your advice and experiences would be appreciated.

Submitted by monstaf1sh on Mon, 2012-05-28 10:34Taking my mum out fishing tomorrow and am not where I should take her, the few spots I had in mind were north or south mole, coogee beach jetty, or in my dinghy on the river.
Has anyone got any other ideas where would a good place might be? Shes happy just catching the small stuff, herring, yellowtail, whiting etc.

Submitted by mattyoga on Mon, 2012-05-28 10:09Off to Kalbarri with the missus this weekend. Anyone heard how its fishing?
Does anyone know what swell size causes difficulty getting out through the mouth? I know the zig zag route to take to get out..
Just wondering if I should take mackie gear - would love to nail a dhu or greenback as well...

Rod Repairs NOR
Submitted by fishmad69 on Mon, 2012-05-28 09:36Hi
Can anyone tell me where can get my boat rod fixed? I have broken a couple of eyes off the rod on a recent trip up North. I always took my rods to Rodwise for repairs but they have now closed.
If anyone has any info it would be appreciated.

Trigg beach
Submitted by SABRE on Mon, 2012-05-28 09:29Hey guys, tried fishing trigg beach for the first time on friday night. Was fishing just in front of boat ramp,at low tide. Had a few good bites but got snagged and lost a few rigs. Is it better to fish here at a high tide will this reduce the snagging ??. Also is this the area known as the blue holes or is that the southern side of the rock outcrop near the boat ramp. Any advise would be appreciated

Broome, Fitzroy river + exmouth trip advice please guys
Submitted by zeolio on Sun, 2012-05-27 21:35Hey guys leaving on thursday for 2 weeks fishing in broome, the fitzroy river, exmouth and anything in between. Havine been scouring all forums for hints and tips like a mad man. I realise possibly not the greatest time to get a barra, but that'd be the main goal. Other than that 2weeks of no kids, missus, bills and general rat race pretty much feels/looks like ive died and gone to heaven
Taking up a well kitted out 4x4 + 4.2m tinny, have got a good selection of hardbodies( accumulated over years + bought after night & nights of reading) and a big selection of soft plastics, beeen practising my knots so much even my 6 year old can whip out a fair bimini now! Feeling pretty prepared but.......Just wondering if anyone up there or recently returned could throw any tips, pointers, reports and especially advice on what/where NOT to go or do.
Cheers guys

Fridays squid sesh.
Submitted by Gaz Mero on Sun, 2012-05-27 21:34Went out with my brother, neice and the old man in my brothers profisher for a squid sesh out from freo in 3.5 to 4.0m of water and did quite well with a few rippers over the 300mm mark . Probably took an hour or two get this feed then picked up some skippy from behind mewstones to finish the day and zipped home in glass conditions for some salt and pepper squid and home made chips.
Doesnt get much easier than that.

Single hooks on lures
Submitted by Wet Dreams on Sun, 2012-05-27 21:28Hi All,
Just after some help/advice on running single hooks on lures. Have used the search function already and know the deal with standard singles but im wanting to try something a bit different and see if it works. Aim is to use a 10g chrome twisty with a single small assist hook to catch herring, as im sick of them spitting the trebles. Have attached 3 pictures with different setups and hoping you can suggest which setup may work best.
Setup 1 is just the assist looped thru the bottom hole on the twisty.
Setup 2 is just the assist looped thru the top hole.
Setup 3 is the assist looped thru a solid ring attatched to the top split ring.

Cheers Sam.

Braid Life
Submitted by gbr41 on Sun, 2012-05-27 21:19Does anyone have thoughts on the effective life of braid? I have some braid that is several years old and recently have had it fail a couple of times at a knot on a swivel when hit with a good strike. The drag was not set particularly hard - about half breaking strength. I usually include several metres of mono to take the shock but in this case I had just rigged the braid to the swivel with a short length of leader below the swivel. Any thoughts appreciated.

Lost rods and reels. Anyone found?
Submitted by BritBrad on Sun, 2012-05-27 18:34Just seeing if there are any good guys ou there who have found 3 rods and reels down the safety bay boat ramp where you beach launch. My mate left them on the side. There was three young lads there in a tinny and a 4x4 just after us sorting there boat. My guess is they took them. We only left them there for 5 mins and realised and went bk and they was gone.
Hope someone can help.

Heave Ho
Submitted by UncutTriggerInWA on Sun, 2012-05-27 18:17I see the Dorkers people in here are a bit slow coming forward so I guess I will play devil's advocate and start the thread.
1st half was like watching a school yard match. Plenty of numbers but no where to go. Second half saw the lazy buggers try to do the same. Suprise suprise.. game breaks open and we have a team with their hands on their hips. TOUGH. IMO dorkers battling hard to make the 8 at the end of season and Eagles being there with reserves coming back. Plenty of build up from Freo guys prior to this. How are you feeling now?

the scent
Submitted by crezz on Sun, 2012-05-27 17:44I went breaming with a mate on saturday and we were not getting too many hits on the soft plastics. After a couple of hours of nothing we decided to put some of the squidgy s factor scent on the lures with imediate result! after a few good hits and a couple of bream landed we were painting the stuff on. I found that after letting it sink and giving it a twitch, letting it sit for up to or over a minuit the bream were coming up and biting it like a piece of bait. however when all the scent had come off the bream woulden't touch it. i recomend giving it a go and seeing if it improves your breaming chances :)

The Eyes of Fish
Submitted by diver on Sun, 2012-05-27 12:38I realise that I am going to get many comments on this subject but it is one I would like answered.
I regularly see photos on this site of good fish that have been caught prior to release, And it goes without saying the regular fishing shows from around Australia where the same thing occurs, EG: the fish is caught, the fish is landed, filmed/photographed, in some cases Kissed. The bearded wobbler made this act famous, then the fish are released..
My question is this, As I have never seen a fish with sunglases what effect does the bright Aussie sun have on a Creature in those cases. fish that has no eye lids, yes, I know sharks have the nicortating membrane but I have never seen one one a fish. So we pull them from a diffused light depth of water. bring them into a bright sunny environment and all this time the eyes are unprotected.
If I, or any one else was to hold a persons head to the sun with their eyes forced open, apart from the damage it would cause to the eyes it would also be termed a form of torture. So if we pull up a fish, any fish, is any one knowledgable to tell me the effect the sun has on the creatures eyes?
I suggest that if you think this is a silly question, then go outside at midday without sun glasses and look at the sun. I think it may make you re think what I am asking. As a suggestion, put a wet (Sea water cloth ) over the head of the fish, it may just help it. I will sit back now and wait for the views of you all

JIGGED DHUIES
Submitted by cahal.dahm on Sun, 2012-05-27 10:51Headed out from Mindarie at about 6am, got to first spot about 7am first drift dad hooks up to his first dhuie on a JIG! he was stocked and so was i, once step closer to becoming a full time jigger!
it was pretty quiet in the morning so we headed out to the 60s only to get small dhuies and pinks, as the water flatten off we headed out deep 200-300m looking for ground, not really knowing what to look for we drooped bait down at a slight drop off, but no luck. Hopefully we can get into some good ground soon.
we headed back into the 40s to a few spots, as the sun was setting i managed a small dhuie, put back to fight another day, all in all was a long but good day, rough in the morning but worth it in the end.

Breaking the law (temporarily)
Submitted by Andy Mac on Sat, 2012-05-26 19:51
Well wouldn't you know it today we had 4 dhuies on deck at the same time.....

Now based on this pic alone you could draw a number of conclusions, but the correct conclusion would be that three were put down on a shotline with tags 76987, 76988 and 76989 in them and the biggest one necked and put on ice for dinner.
Amazingly enough our first drop on new ground and we both had double headers of dhuie. First time that has happened to me. They went 56,50,62 and 66cm
