went over to rotto with a mate on the weekend, the weather was on the bad side most of the time but come sunday lunch and the wind died off a bit so we went in search for some nice lumps and it wasnt long till we found em, took a while to find something bititng but then the 24kg backbone was doubling over like ive never seen, made my mate piss big time... dunno wat it was but i was callin it for a sambo or ytk but will never know. the bites stopped and so did the wind so out wider we go, found a nice lump in the 50's with only an hour or so of sunlight left, down goes a big chunk of fresh squid and my mate again was on nice lil pinky to 3 kilos(baby for the depth we were fishing). then next thing i know something hit my bait and almost pulled the rod out of my bloody arms, i was onto something good 10 minutes went by and we got colour, got it to the surface and i just moaned dhuy... stoked. got it in boat for a few snaps then straight on ice, after all ended up with 3 flathead(2 of wich was a double header), 2 sb fish, a huge foxy,1 lil pinky and nice dhu that pulled 16.9 kilos... not too bad considering ive only ever caught one and it wasnt even size. will post photos  when i pick my camera up.

Just wondering if anyone has any reports on how the Trout are going down south gonna take the family to Harvey to have a flick (cost me $20 to get me 7yr old a freshy license so better come up with something).

Morning all,

With a bit of time to kill this morning, and there being a slight breeze, I decided to shoot up to the PK Boat Ramp and have a look at how it was progressing.

Lots of bays, and parking for cars without trailers too.

Seperate bays either side of the car park for rig up and de rigging. Didn't notice any infrastructure for wash down facilities on the de rig side, but perhaps it may still be early days yet.

The FRP grating on the finger wharf looks good, as does the grating down the centre of each ramp.

Even though the breeze was only light this morning, I have a feeling that it will become rather messy down there when it does pick up. Even as light as it was this morning, it would create issues.

hi guys an gals finally back home from work and off to quobba in two days for ten nights just looked at the weather forecast for the next week dont know to much bout reading the charts but looks like its going to be windy and a lot of sw winds 10 to 20knots is there any locals that could check this for me and tell me what its been like and what its going to be like would be much apprieciated i hope its good cause i need my fix and the time has come finally will be taking 19ft trailcraft hoping to nail some nice mackies be great for some info thanks guys/gals

Hey guys, uni and work is getting the better of me so I'm treating myself to a few days in Broome in mid october. I was there couple of months ago and the weather gods sucked arse, so hopefully this trips better and offers more than a catfish and floods.

Anyhow, I tried everywhere in town (on both tides), willie creek and crab creeks last time, so can anybody give me some advice....

- crab creek seems to get rave reviews but I just got the one catfish. do you fish at the end of the gravel road, and high tide?

- willie creek - was told low tide as there's less water... caught bugger all. any thoughts? Also is it worth moving around much or is it usually alright close to the pearl farm and backpacker parking area

- charters - are there any decent sportfishing charters that run day trips? don't know if it's too early for barra.. and not too keen on bottom fishing

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Was pretty disappointed last time, hammered the place with all sorts of metals, jigs and poppers for nothing!! Cheers guys!

going to jurien this thursday and im thinking of taking my stradic 2500ci4 up there for small plastics, its loaded up with 10lb td-sensor...you guys reckon its worth the shot to give it a thrashing and stop some smaller fish? or not bother..it states 7kg of drag but obviously thats just on paper, whats everyones thought?

i need some 2 oz jigheads for thursday. Oceanside was out so anyone know where i can get some south of river?

my dad is wanting to buy a small ally boat, forward controls ,elec start,canopy is some of the must haves.

can anyone out there read japanese and convert to english?

Going to get the crab nets dusted off and fixed up and have promised the kids I would take them down to our local marina perhaps on weds to see if we can get some.

I've used old fish frames for bait and bought some frozen mullet before as well as using these blue sardine/mackeral type things that the cray boat didn't need. By far the best bait was fresh mullet, followed closely by pink snapper frames, but I've heard of people using chicken frames is this true??

If so, do you use cooked chicken frames or raw, do you age them or are they fresh??

Any help would be much appreciated and would help keep the kids amused.

Hey all, come January my girlfriend and I will be heading on a holiday up North staying in kalbarri for 3 nights carnarvon for 5 nights (family reasons) and staying in exmouth and the ningaloo area for 5 days. We are taking two kayaks rigged for fishing but these are slow and we are fairly inexperienced anyone know of any safe easy spots where we can drop a line? Also my goal for fishing on this trip is to catch a quennies or trevs on poppers or chromies any tips or locations would be much appreciated (land based)! thanks guys

Headed out for a fish today with my uncle Glen (his boat) and brother in law, Brendan. With the forecast for winds to be easing around midday it was a later than usual start hitting the water around 8:30 with the plan to venture out to the 40m from rockingham and try and find a dhu or 2. Conditions weren't too bad with the easterly being quite managable on the way out.

I had gotten Brendan interested in the plastics and jigs lately and he had recantly gotten his first jigging outfit for his birthday which needed breaking in. Armed with some mcarthy plastics and a few demersal jigs we did a few drops on some good soundings of fish on the way out but to no avail. Once at our destination the first fish onboard was a nice 51cm KG to Glen on bait, followed by an undersize dhuie and snapper. Meanwhile Bren had given up on the plastics and gone for a nap (partying too hard before fishing) as I lost a decent fish on plastic.

By now it was midday and the wind had dropped right off to give us awesome conditions. I was hoping to find some sambos out there for some fun as we'd caught them in this area before and my wish soon came true. I noticed a big splash out the back of the boat which could only have been a fish, so I quickly wound up my plastic towards the surface and as I looked down into the depths I saw the silvery flanks of some decant fish swiping at my baby elf on the way up but not actually hitting it. I dropped back down a few times but they just wouldn't hit it so I quickly grabbed another rod that was already rigged with a jig and dropped it down to the waiting sambos. Jig jig jig and I could see the sambos fighting over it... BAM I was on! Not a big fish at all but they're always fun!

As I had hooked up Brendan was forcefully woken up and quickly dropped a plastic down for an instant hookup also.

I grabbed the PE3 outfit with the plastic on and quickly hooked up again, seeing the hook up 10m below.

There were fish everywhere!

After landing another sambo I tied on a popper to try for some surface action as there were splashes happening all around the boat. I jumped up on the bow and put out a few casts hoping for a sambo on the surface but after a few follows from fish, I realised the splashes weren't sambos but tuna, pretty big ones too. Tuna on the surface with sambos undernearth, I could see fish swimming everywhere! Gave up with the popper after no action from a few more casts and went back to the jigging. This time I got out the PE6 to put some hurt on a few fish!

Meanwhile Brendan was getting the jigging action down and really breaking in the new rod.

After a while we finally drifted off the sambos so we headed back to our mark and found them again. They were sitting down the bottom until we dropped our jigs down and worked them back up, then they would all follow!

They were getting bigger every fish, I had a split ring decide to end a solid battle, to then rerig and get pinged off on the next fish due to crossing lines. But we fought on!

We were getting tired by now after landing well over 20 sambos up to 25kg+ and it was as I had the PE3 back down and decided it was time to wind in when I hooked up again and quickly watched the little stradic 4000 start to smoke! I've never seen line leave a spool so quickly. 25mins later and I landed the biggest sambo of the day... the photo doesn't do it justice but it was over 30kg and hard to hold properly!

All fish were released well bar 1 small amberjack (I think it was?) that is destined for the bbq tomorrow.

Great fun day out, no need to wait till "sambo season" to get some good sambo action!

My friend and i are planning to go overnight fishing on the holidays coming. we never done beach fishing. so we been surfing the web on learning how to read the water and trying to figure out how to find the gutter but nothing make any sence.
Does anyone have a tip on how to find the gutter or a link or perhaps a picture of gutter area?

well, for those who read the first post i was wondering if the shape my hull, affected the way the transducer was working.

after ajusting some of the settings, it deffinatly did work better, i was getting a good pic up to about 18knts,

 but i had already installed the in hull tranny and thank god i did.

i took pics at slow speed and at nearly 30knts(its hard taking pics at speed)

went on sea breeze this morning and found out it was high tide so me and my father went to maylands.

i got down there my baitcaster was already rigged up so i put a prawn casted it out then i started to rig up my other rod when all of a sudden my bait caster started to move i lucky got it b4 it went of the jetty and i landed a 25 cm bream absoulutly stoked

later on i i had a run with a 35 ish one but it got a way after that i got a 22.5cm one but that was it for me for the day but i was verry happy asi got my pb of 25 cm lol i know its tiny but its something

the gear i used was

a baitcaster 3 kg mono wuth a 4 to 6 kilo rod and

starlo stik 2 to 4 kilo with symmetre 1000 6 lbs braid

hey goin to bremer bay at the end of february i nned to get a new rod and reel set i will fishin the esturie and doin land based fishin all over the place just wanting to no your reccomendations of what rod and reel to get or what type and and if any lures are good and the main fish to target is salmon and special lure and teqnice to catch em i have money to spend not goin over board. cheers for any help much appreciated

Went over to my nonno's(grand dad's) house this morning to go get some fresh vegies and stuff out of the garden. Went into his garage after to have a look at all the old fishing gear rod/reels and tackle. Found about 40 massive sinkers all in different sizes along with full tackle box of terminal tackle. About 15 or so rods mostly crapp wit a few oldy daiwa reels on it which i didnt take, andddd a boat combo TLd 30 2 speed and daiwa STP 15 kilo loaded wit braid. So im a happy boy this morning.

The anticipation was high as i headed up from Fremantle at 4.30 yesterday morning. I went straight to the River mouth in search of that nice Tailor i'd been hearing about. By the time i burley'd up and got the mulie in the water it was 6:30, bang on high tide. I wouldn't say the mouth had broken, but the crashing waves occasionally allowed the water to spill into the river.

The hours fishing the beach provided no success, and there were two locals either side of me who also caught nothing, along with an elderly gentleman who was ballooning. One fellow even stated he had caught nothing in the last five weeks, which was a far cry of the reports i'd recently heard. A young, enthusiastic family rocked up a little later in the morning and pulled in a dozen or so sand whiting, quite small, but at least they caught something! Haha.

At about 11:30 i called it quits for the beach, and took to the river in the kayak (Finn Beachcomber). This is where the fun started! I paddled up about 100 meters past the big sand dune and noticed some really niced structure, positioned the yak and let the easterly winds drift me along it. Not even 15 seconds later, WHACK! With no hesitation, something came out and smaches my coral prawn, could it be that elusive 40cm bream i was hunting? After as good short battle, i lifted aboard what i initially thought was a tailor...then i thought it was an unusually large herring...then i got distracted by 2 stunning young ladies cruising past in a tinny. Anyway, it wasn't until i got home and did some research that i realised it was an Australian Salmon, 30cm to the fork.

I decided to paddle up river and further explore the area. I came across a nice little pocket with some excellent, excellent structure. It might as well have had a big sign saying "There is hundreds of Bream here."   And sure enough, yep!! I spent about 5 hours prowling that area, catchin bream ranging from 18 - 25cm. It was disappointing not to get any of legal size, but the fact they were striking my bait every cast made it a very fun day.

It was the first time i'd been to Moore River, and even though i didn't catch a Tailor or that monster Bream, one thing is for sure, that river is alive, and absolutely teaming with fish. Cannot wait to go back, great spot and great signs for the future.

taking the tinny for a run monday the plan at the moment is squid in the morn and head out for some big whiting wound luch when the wind dies off. launch probably 5 am and get back when ever ready.

Well I got out there today even if it was only for a two hour fish alone but it was the best two hours fishing I have done considering I had no bait on the boat.

I went and saw the guys at ocean side yesterday and bought a few packs of mcarthy plastics and jig heads.  This was going to be my first real crack at the plastics. I left point perron about 1pm and got out west of rotto by about two.  I had a waypoint I was heading to but stopped a few km short as I couldn't stop the itch any longer.   I tied my leader onto my braid with a knot I later found out was the worst knot of my life one I will remember for a while.  Knot tied jig head on thread on my plastic which is a little tricky to get straight. Anyway line up the boat for a good drift and bombs away.

First few minutes nothing was finding it.  hard to tell if I was on the bottom twitch twitch sink twitch sink let some line out twitch sink started thinking maybe this is a crock of shit twitch twitch shitt maybe I should of bought some bait fish on the sounder no hits twitch twitch then a knock on my rod.  was that a bite?  let out some line go for a twitch and it came up solid.  what a feeling that first second u realise u have hooked a fish bit of weight with heaps of head shakes so I called it for a snapper, picked it like a snotty nose a nice 55 cm snapper and within 5 minutes of wetting the line so I let the pinky live another day.

The plastic was a bit smashed but I dropped it again another few minutes of twitch twitch sink twitch then a bit of weight I jerked it but didn't hook let some line out took the tension then felt a knock followed by weight jerked it and came up solid real solid almost like a snag except this snag was moving and giving some slow but solid tail thumps.  my heart stopped I couldn't believe it I had hooked my double digit duhie this was heavy and hard to get off the bottom.  that's when my doddgy knot decided to part ways with my dream duhie shittt shitt shittt.  oh well I thought googled an allbright knot and tied on another plastic.  didn't manage to hook another duhie but got a few other species.  I got a queen snapper a couple of black arse and a few sergeant bakers.  not bad for 2 hours fishing.  can't wait to get a full day out there next weekend hopefully. And honsu I might be in this week to get that sp rod and reel just gotta talk the mrs into spending a bit of the baby bonus:-) sorry no photos hard taking them on your own

I'm looking to take my new inflatable and engine out for a test run tomorrow. Can anyone recommend somewhere suitable on the Swan. Just need somewhere with a quiet ramp, and some not too busy open water nearby where I can get the boat up to full tilt without wiping out any water skiers?
