All the boaties out there
Submitted by JGS on Wed, 2010-09-08 18:18Just wondering as to what conditions you guys with boats would call your "cut off limit"
for example really keen to go fishing but swell too big, wind too strong.
I know the answer to this will be extremely varied because of size of boat
experience etc. Just keen to get peoples ideas and personal thoughts.
thanks

Fiji & Wilderness Rods
Submitted by PattyT on Wed, 2010-09-08 15:37Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has fished Denaru, Fiji landbased before? First of all.. are you allowed to fish, or is it all blocked to fishing? I just wanted to walk around chucking a few poppers and soft plastics.. Which leads me to my second point.
Does anyone have any information or feedback on the Daiwa Wilderness rods? I was looking at getting the 8-17pd rod to match up with my certate 3500 to take away with me. Havnt really heard to much about them, is there any other travel rods anyone can recommend?
Also, if there are any charters anyone can recommend while im in fijithat would be unreal.
Thanks in advance..
Cheers

Has anyone used 1 of these rods
Submitted by Rig on Tue, 2010-09-07 21:14I am looking for a balloon stick for northern rock spots running an inter 50-80lb
these seem pretty cheap and suitable for a rod i would use once or twice a year, although the guides dont seem to have the extra bracing some rods in their class have

kill or let live?
Submitted by scotto on Tue, 2010-09-07 13:31now that most of the hoo-har over last months great white attack is dying down, what are peoples thoughts on great white sharks, and the frequency of attack in WA and australia over the last decade?
my theory is this - since GW's have become a protected species, their numbers and sizes have definately increased, and something you can associate with larger, older animals, is that they're quite a bit smarter than usual, and they have a fair amount of inteligence, and wisdom from experiences.
sightings are becoming more frequent, especially in metro, and usually around this time of year they seem to be venturing closer and closer to some pretty popular areas, and divers were reporting increased activity last year, all over the ocean. i feel its a pretty safe bet that they return to the same areas each year to feed, especially if they know where to find easy food, or competition is forcing them to explore grounds they havent had to go to for years.
i also feel that its about time that their numbers and sizes were thinned out a bit, and its time for a bit of a culling. i know it sounds brutal, but they have done similar things with crocs before, and i beleive it can quite simply save lives. i dont think the idea of tagging them with locators, etc is a very smart idea, as it would be near on impossible or cost effective to tag every dangerous white, but if there is an attack, or confirmed sighting of a shark large enough to be considered a threat, it should be disposed of as quickly as possible. I am not saying we should wipe them out, but rather a timely thinning of larger, more dangerous animals, or ones which are susceptible to returning to certain areas.
also, dont for a second think that their presence is going to keep me out of the water, or make me feel uncomfortable about doing the things i love. i havent seen a GW, but i have dived with, and had situations with some pretty big noahs of all sorts including big tigers, bulls, and very large bronzies, and i do realise that there is a real chance i could come face to face with one of these great whites, but i also feel experienced enough to handle the situation accordingly, and decide with confidence on what to do - either trying to make a stealthy retreat, or dealing with the shark. unfortunately, i dont think my missus, family, or most of my friends could deal with the same situation, and they are the ones that i'm thinking about.

does anyone have advice on some barra tackle?
Submitted by tha_nippa on Tue, 2010-09-07 08:11hows it going guys im new to the forum and this is my first post here!
i live in darwin and love my barra fishing, i have recently brought a shimano core 50 and i am looking for a rod specifically designed for plastics fishing in mind (super sensitive, lightweight to balance with the core and decent backbone with a extra fast action to set the hooks) so the gloomis jig & worm BCR glx series and the samurai reaction 351 or the 451 came to mind.
does anyone have any experience with these rods? i am looking at either getting a BCR802 or a BCR803 or one of the samurais. what do you guys think will be better? the samurais are much much better looking rods and also have a decent warranty.
also i am looking at getting a barra spin outfit for those long casts. ive been looking at the new certates (2500R) how are they holding up being a new model and all.
the spin rod ive been looking at has been from the samurai reaction series (the 302 or the 402 snapper rods) how would these rods handle barra fishing with soft plastics?
cheers i look forward to your replys
