Woodmans point boat locations

i have recently upgraded from a tinny to a half cabin. I’m looking to explore more around garden and Carnac and have seen lots of boats head out to five fathom bank.

do you fish on the bank or east or west of it? What are main species out there?

in between Carnac and garden is that any good for fishing? Do you fish on the reef or sand?

I use the same old running sinker rig most of the time, any time I have tried lures I have come up with nothing.

i use light gear upto 10kg but might have to upgrade as I have been snapped off the last couple of times.

i am a pro at catching butterfish

mainly after squid, whiting, herring and snapper.

i am just starting to eat fish as my 16 month old son loves fish, my wife does t eat it.

i have only ever fished for the fun of it but never done much boat fishing except for the past few years.

any tips on rigs or what to look for would be great.

I only really drift as I find anchoring I’m always on a shit spot. What is a decent burley? I just throw out that packet mix stuff.

Fish id

anyone know what this is, got a whiting head but slimy and dark like a wrasse

Watch out for them blue-ringed occys crayfisho's!

Went out of Hillaries yesterday arvo with my brother to pull his pot. On the way out I was telling him about the many sightings of blue-ringed occys in pots and I was a bit surprised he had not heard of any of the reports. He was bare foot driving the boat and i told him he should put his shoes on before we pull the pot onboard. Anyway we get to his pot and pull it, had a good look around and in the pot for blue-rings couldnt see any so baited it and we both lifted the pot and tossed it over. Guess what dropped off the bottom of the pot and landed right next to his BARE!! foot?  yep - a good sized blue-ring about 5cm across and squirming towards his foot! As he jumped back from it I squashed it with my shoe and he just looked at me in disbelief saying  FUUUCCKKK at the same time. So - good lesson learnt by him. After about 5 minutes into the trip back to the marina I came up behing him while he was concentrating driving in the rough conditions and pinched the side of his foot - wish i had filmed his reaction! would have loved to have posted it on here for all to see  - got him a beauty ha ha  anyway watch out for them blue-rings boys  cheers dave

1st tuna/marlin trip for the season

Garden island and Carnac newbie

heading out tomorrow for a fish, generally try just get some squid and whiting around woodmans point. Would like to head out behind garden or around Carnac but not sure what bait or if I should be using lures. I see a lot of people jig these days but I wouldn’t know where to start with that. Any help would be much appreciated. Also is it worth using burley

Fishing Reel Spool Compatibilty

Hi, everyone. I posted a WTB on the Buy/Sell for a Shimano Ci4+ Stradic 2500FA spare spool. After some looking around I realiased that lots of shimano spools from different models are 100% compatible with others. I couldn't find any info online for my Stradic Ci4+ 2500FA, so I was wondering if anyone knew which (if any) other models have compatible spools.

Cheers!

Double ouch

More Augusta success

Miss 9 and I headed out from the Augusta boat harbour about 630 am, by 8am we had a 56 and 64 cm dhuie in the boat so went exploring. I got smashed by what was either a samson or a ytk and Miss 9 landed another dhuie, a 49cm model on a soft plastic. Once I positioned the rod correctly in her hands she did it all herself.

OUCH

Looks like there is a new launching facility in Kenwick

Garmin echo map help

Fellas can anyone tell me how to set North up on the screen so it's not going round in circles.

Heavy braid instead of wire

G'Day all , compliments of the season to everyone.

I'm wondering if anybody has used heavy braid instead of wire to reduce bite-offs. I know they use woven dyneema for cut resistant gloves and I imagine it would (possibly) give better bait/ lure presentation and spook fish less. Any personal observations or thoughts appreciated, Thanks in advance,    John

Drift anchor

 Hey all

just wondering how much rope do people use to set up a drift anchor, my boat is 5.25m fibreglass cheers

Issues with Lowrance hds10

Hi folks,

Last couple of trips out I've been having a few issues with my sounder.

First up it wouldn't turn on when I got to the boat. I fiddled with the cables, unplugged them and plugged them in again, tapped it, slapped it and swore at it. After about 40 minutes I gave up and sure enough a couple of minutes later it turned on by itself and ran fine until I shut it off when the day was done.

This morning I went out to pull my pots and it started fine when I got onto the boat but after pulling the pots out the back of the bank it stopped and wouldnt go again. no amount of swearing and fiddling could change its mind this time.

It looks to me as if the back of the yellow plug (structure scan?) is badly perished but all other plugs look fine. Could this perished plug affect the units operation? or does anyone else have any other ideas what could be wrong? My thoughts would be to plug it into someone else's cabling and see if the unit runs fine therefore meaning I have an issue with my cables. trouble is I don't know anyone running a Lowrance.....

All constructive advice welcome :)

Denmark advice

Heading down to Denmark tomorrow with a 6.8m boat and keen to know how the Wilson inlet has been fishing lately? Never been before but I hear there are decent kgw, bread and butter fish and the odd snapper cruising around. Does anyone know if it's worth taking the crab nets up this time of year?

Rotto Crays

Hi Guys,

I'm heading over to Rotto in mid Jan and looking for some good cray spots.

Ill be Snuba diving from the shore and staying over at longreach side.

Are they any hotspots out there?

Esperance advice on areas to fish

Hey guys me and the misso are heading to Esperance tomorrow in our 5.8m Haines. The area looks incredible with so much ground it’s overwhelming. Could anyone point us in the right direction for areas to jig/bait fish?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Augusta Success

Well we launched early this morning and wind was up a bit so stayed close and caught a few whiting and squid.

We had enough around 10 and headed in. After pulling the boat out I was chatting to another fishermen who had caught a dhuie and was heading home today. He pointed me in the direction and I asked miss 9 what she thought we should do, her reply was to relaunch so we did.

We got to the spot 15 mins later and started drifting, 2 drifts in and Miss 9 comes up solid on a 56cm shy, her first. She handled it well with just a little help from dad. An hour later on our last drift I had a nice hit on the 5 inch abrohlos tackle paddle tail and landed a 65 ish dhuie too.

Time to head back to camp

Thanks to the guys who gave advice e on my other thread.

Craypots at Rotto

Hi

Heading to Rotto for a few days and wondering where it would be best to drop a pot. Staying at Longreach. Just wondering if I still need to drop them in sand or rather very close to a bit of reef and what sort of depth

Cheers

Eric
