GTs
Submitted by RumPig on Wed, 2023-03-01 12:44G'Day All,
Slowly ticking through my fishing bucket list and the next fish I am targetting is GTs.
I know techniques and tackle requirements. My question is more around finding the fish.
Is it a matter of finding bait and youll find fish? Or should i be looking at specific structure around the joint and if bait is there im good to go on the fish?
I realise that it isn't always as simple as that but prepared to put in the time and effort to nut them out.
Any pointers in the right direction would be apprecaited.
Located in Exmouth if that helps.
Cheers

HDS7 Live v HSD9 Carbon
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2023-02-28 07:50Bluebottle have a run out sale on the HDS9 Carbons for $1500 and I am running a HDS7 Live. I primarily use my 627 as my sounder and the HDS as my plotter but sometimed do have the 3-1 ducer installed for the HDS7 mostly for structure/side scan.
Would I get more joy out of the bigger screen or better to stick with the better processor in the HDS7?

UWA .
Submitted by Livewire on Mon, 2023-02-27 17:03Come back to the ramp today, couple of uni students surveying boaties on what they caught where they caught it how many they caught what bycatch, what else do you use your boat for! What do you think of the new rules, your preferences to closure and restocking. First thing I asked is where the data collected goes? Answer stored and shared with government agencies. I politely denied the request and said I've done my last survey .

Game outfit size for targeting metro Blues ?
Submitted by Seahorse7 on Sat, 2023-02-25 06:39I'm looking for a few outfits to target blues in metro area, leaning twoards 50w reel on 24kg rollered straight butts, probably spooled with braid and mono top to get more length on, its for a smaller trailer boat. interested on any input on what lb to spool with and if 37kg/80w would be overkill or not? I'd rather take time and buy the right gear day 1 so i dont have to buy a second time as will be sizing boat up in the future anyway. Already going to fads, fishing dollies and tuna etc on smaller outfits and doing well, just want to give the Blues a crack when I'm out there and want to be able to handlle one if I got lucky. Thanks.

National social and economic survey of recreational fishers
Submitted by selthy on Thu, 2023-02-23 07:14www.agriculture.gov.au/abares/news/national-survey-shows-significant-benefits-of-rec-fishing
Some quality insights from the national social and economic survey of recreational fishing. Old Donny boy completely ignored these two vital legs of the stool in his research, with the 2 short paragraphs below summing up how valuable rec fishing is to the economy and our health an wellbeing. Maybe if Don ever bothered to put a rod in his hand, he may realise what a mistake he has made by cutting our ability to do what we love in half.
Recreational fishing was estimated to contribute over 100,000 jobs and over $11 billion per year (including direct and indirect contributions) to the Australian economy.
Recreational fishers were found to have, on average, higher levels of wellbeing than non-fishers, and those who fish more often have higher wellbeing. Recreational fishing appeared to support positive social connections, nature connection, relaxation and can help achieve recommended levels of physical activity.

Here’s a heavy duty trailer for you Swompa
Submitted by Silver Fox on Mon, 2023-02-20 08:28Can for the love of god work out how to add a piccie to an existing post.
Im pretty sure this is a good example of a heavy duty trailer for you.
6000kg max load, trailer comes in at 1500kg allowing me 4500 kg of stuff on top.
Ringfeder hitch, Rogers Willex truck suspension and axles, air brakes all round. 280mm ally I beam construction. Bulletproof to say the least. Ludicrously expensive yet worth it in my books.

PGFC marlin cup
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2023-02-17 13:40Anyone else fishing the cup tomorrow? Last year there were 2 fish tagged with about 8 raised and 6 hooked from memory. There seem to be more fish around this year so hopefully we'll pin one tomorrow. Maybe pick up a dollie for dinner from one of the FADs too!

Local Laws
Submitted by tcarroll on Thu, 2023-02-16 08:50 I feel like I should know this, but have absolutely no idea..... Interested in a Local Governments powers to introduce local laws/rules to restrict/control fishing beyond the normal state controlled recreational fishing rules.
Noted an article this morning saying that the City of Cockburn are reviewing their local laws to potentially introduce harsher penalties for people targeting sharks at Ammo Jetty and presumably more broadly around Woodman Point.
I also recall "No Fishing" signs at different beaches (Blue Bay and sections of Madora Bay from memory) around City of Mandurah when I was living there. Again, beyond recognised sanctuary zones, can Local Governments introduce local laws to restrict fishing at any beach?

Shark fishing ban
Submitted by davewillo on Mon, 2023-02-13 12:36Don Punch has said he's looking at the possibility of banning all land-based shark fishing in WA. This is exactly what a lot of people said would happen and it's just another example of them taking away fishing rights.

Parrotfish
Submitted by tcarroll on Mon, 2023-02-13 08:07 Picked up a nice bluebarred parrotfish off the rocks in the marina yesterday by chance and wondering if anybody has had luck actively targeting them at all?
A few months ago while walking the rocks I noticed a fair few blue shadows over the shallow reefs and up close to the rock walls in the corner of the channel.... I figured they were blue bone and had tried casting crabs and occy at them but wasn't drumming up any interest whatsoever. On another day, it was very glassy and upon a closer look I could see that they were actually parrotfish so quit trying to catch them as I thought they were vegetarian.
When casting really lightly weighted prawns around some pillars and rock walls yesterday, I picked up a nice fish which was bloody good on the plate also! Prior to landing this fish I also had a really quick run and the leader clean cut, which after catching the parrotfish and looking at the mouth on the thing, suspect this could have been the culprit.
My question is, has anybody had any success chasing parrotfish on a hook and line or just as an occasional bycatch?

Recfish Lip service
Submitted by Moondog on Fri, 2023-02-10 18:46750,000 members and couldn't organise a friendly rally to protest these fishing bans that aren't based on science.
Recfish lip service are out here doing snapper guardians but can't influence the government that the bans are wrong especially REMOVING dhu size limits and allowing the commercial boats to catch during spawning.
Also no word from Recfish lip service on removing maximum shark limits (Could maybe stop a few fatalities) Joke of an organisation!!!
Lets now send out how good the pelagic fishing is and not deploy the FAD's like we said we would do

Pingers
Submitted by Coastrunner on Mon, 2023-02-06 13:45So Sunday morning I'm sitting on a KG spot catching snapper on my whiting rig and this lot cruised through, less respect for a blokes hard won spot than black barcrusher owners.
Magic conditions until the NNW sprung up and blew the sea mist on the horizon in, KG's and squid not overly productive but some very nice sandies around.

Lowrance HDS 12 transducer lead
Submitted by Kelvinjr12 on Thu, 2023-02-02 13:02Hi guys just seeking a bot of advice if anyone knows much about the Lowrance HDS 12 transducer leads, 1 of the 9 pins has snapped off so I am getting no structure pictures. A dealer has told me I will need to buy a whole new transducer for well over $300, I was thinking I could possibly buy an extension lead on-line (approx $100) & just join them can this be done? & if so anyone keen to earn a few dollars to join them as they are so fiddly. Any advice appreciated cheers
