How to make small assist hooks
Submitted by commocean on Fri, 2014-01-03 17:02Bought some surface lures with my new rod yesterday and i know that the best thing to do is to take the trebles off and put assist hooks on the back, but thats about all i know on that subject. So i would greatly appreciate some info. Eg. What i need- Hook type and size, ring size, cord/braid brand and lbs, method- how to tie it all, roughly how big it should be, or a link that explains how to make them. I use surface lures about 5cm -/+
thanks in advance for any help

Hooking up but not bringing them in the boat WTF
Submitted by bighorse on Fri, 2014-01-03 16:33I have been out three times now and three times I've come home with no fish. I'm hooking up but I cant seem to make any ground on the fish. Fishing 114 mtrs get a bite rod bends over and I lean back. Give it the old pump and wind but fish just peels of line and then stop. Then it will give up a meter or five and take it back straight away. Its almost like the fish are glued to the bottom. I fight these things for about 20-30 mins before they spit the hook.I'm using 80 pound braid and a paternoster rig with 9/0 hooks.(owners) I'm not breaking my rigs or straightening hooks. WTF. If anyone can give me some advice it would be much appreciated. If the advice works I'll shout a trip out so you can reel one up yourself!

Suzi Engine Issues at all ?
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2014-01-03 15:56Crew,
The Inlaws are about to buy a boat with a Suzi 90 Hp 4 stroke Engine around 05/06 vintage with approx 350 hours on the Suzi meter.
Has anyone heard of issues with these OB`s once they get to this vintage?
I understand they`re probably only just run in at 350 hrs but thought I`d pose the question to the guys in the know on here,
If anyones had any issues they would be wary of let me know.
Help is appreciated,
Tim

Robbery at complete angler rockingham
Submitted by Ausfisha on Thu, 2014-01-02 22:24I don't know if anyone on our site has heard CA Rockinghamflames was broken into early hours Tuesday morning and high end fishing reels stolen (saltigas, Stella's,Catalina's, etc) . Early this morning ( Thursday ) the thieves attempted another break in but failed, this is identical to what they done but both attempts successful in Feb 2013. Please keep an eye out for any high end gear for sale.
Majority of this post taken from Rockingham WA crime reports.

Where are the Crays
Submitted by Ol Tom on Thu, 2014-01-02 20:04
Gadday all
This is my first post as a fully fledged fishwreck.
And that exactly what I am a fishwreck, waiting for the wind to line up so I can get out and get into the demersals I keep hearing that everyone is catching.
Anyway having gone inland for the christmas period I pulled the cray pots and havent had them back in until earlier this week. got out this morning to pull them and NOTHING!!!
Wondering if anyone is still getting crays in the Mandurah/Rocko area or have I had a visit from the cray pot fairies AGAIN???
Cheers Ol Tom

Losing fish on metals
Submitted by bulkie on Thu, 2014-01-02 17:55Lost a couple of Tailors and Herrings on Twistys few days back. Everytime they jump outta the water the treble gets unhooked. It's rarely happened before but it's getting abit annoying now.
Tension is set right and rod is upright at all times. It shouldn't be the hooks as well coz I've changed a set of trebles and still it happens.
Should I be doing something different?

Buoyweather
Submitted by deanot on Thu, 2014-01-02 16:36I was just wondering if anyone that subscribes to Buoyweather could give me a sneaky forecast for Monday in Jurien Bay?
I had one of their free-trial subscriptions awhile back, but it expired and I don't really want top cough up for just one days report.
Cheers,

To the Scumbag in the Maylands Boat Ramp Car Park
Submitted by trueblue_10 on Wed, 2014-01-01 18:44To the low life scumbag who damaged my right hand trailer lamp this morning at the Maylands Boat ramp car park. I hope you are a member of this forum and read this.
You know who you are and I have a piece of your white plastic boat trailer fender (right side) stuck in my broken tail lamp assembly (now in my hands). Its not the fact that you hit and damaged my trailer as to why I am upset as the damage is probably less than $100. It's the fact you knew what you did, you stopped, picked up my broken stop light lens and globes and drove off without leaving a note you gutless, spineless wonder. Now I am left with a tail lamp to fix and find parts only a few days before I start my holiday with my kids.
Sorry guys but it is people like this sub-human Cretan that do not deserve to walk amongst us decent folk. He damages another persons property then deliberately drives off and does not leave a note to say sorry or who it was. (He actually picks up my damaged parts so he does not leave a trace). I will actively searching for this mongrel and have a chunk of his fender to match-up. So if you are reading this scumbag (and I hope you are) you better replace that fender pretty quick or it will cost you something more when I find you. What's more there are only limit ramps in Perth and I use most of them!!

Reese style Towbar stuck in tight. - got it out :)
Submitted by Jason P on Wed, 2014-01-01 18:41The removeable section of the towbar is stuck fast, has been for last two years when I bought the Pajero.
Made sure the pin & locking setscrew were removed.
Tried WD40, CLR, Knockmeter, pulling it out gentlely by a big Gum tree (broke the 1" dia rope) that was two years ago.
Now thought stuff this lets try something else so today so I unbolted the towbar and used some Reducteur H-72 super realeasing agent. (was skeptical at $30 can) (no luck)
Then have heated it up with a blow torch and cooled down rapidily with water. (no luck)
Then took about a 32mm hole saw to the front of the towbar for further access, with more blowtorch action, more Knockmeter, more H-72 and still it doesn't move an millmetre.
Thinking now that the hole drilled in the front of the towbar maybe good for pushing out with a hydraulic press.
Any thoughts on if you have had a similar problem and who would be best to remove it would be appreciated.
Jason.

Brakes for boat trailer.
Submitted by Boppo on Wed, 2014-01-01 14:31Doing my Dunbier trailer up and was wondering wether I need to have mechanical brakes on it. The trailer/boat motor would be over 700kg but under 1000kg. It is a 2001 model.
I know that now anything over 700kg has to have brakes but the older models didn't up to a certain point.
What year did the law change?

Dinner rolled up on the beach......
Submitted by Hairyone on Wed, 2014-01-01 12:26Went down the beach the other night for a fish in pretty shitty conditions.......30km winds, tourists and weed everywhere but thought Id throw a line in anyway. Caught a Wirrah (apparently) and a shit load of weed.
We were just about to pack up and go when a cray pot rolled up on the beach! My son ran down and grabbed it so we could put it up near the track so its owner might find it as there was no float attached.
When I looked closer I noticed one escape hatch had a bit of wood screwed across it,the other tied up with rope, and a nice big cray flapping around inside!
So guess what......they lost there pot and there Cray!!!
Thatll teach em! LOL
Unless of course someone would like to claim it and pick it up from the fisheries office!

Senseless Killing Sharks and Rays Ammo. Jetty.
Submitted by Howard George on Wed, 2014-01-01 10:50There's an article on WA Today about the senseless killing of sharks by crazed fishermen on the Ammo. Jetty. It's not a good look so it's probably time to clean up your act or else you might lose it to rec-fishing.

Rod for Saltiga SA40
Submitted by Stevef on Tue, 2013-12-31 15:39Hi all,
the wife has generously brought me a Saltiga SA40 for Chrissy. I have spooled the reel with 80lb braid and will be using the reel for heavy bottom bashing and also some gummy shark fishing here in Victoria
I am seeking some advice on a rod, price range max ~$300
I have looked at the Momster Mesh and Terez so far. I am drawn to the MM but would like just a little more length in the rod, the Terez is a little too long for my liking.
Any input will be appreciated
Cheers Steve
