Looking for a Lowrance GPS Antenna
Submitted by Hebbs on Wed, 2014-01-15 18:55Hoping someone has in a box somewhere a Lowrance LGC-3000 or 4000 antenna they no longer want.
Mine has gone the way many apparently did and I am in urgent need of a replacement.
Cheers

Denmark Info
Submitted by soupster51 on Wed, 2014-01-15 17:01Howdy Team.
I'm heading to the Denmark on Friday for a week with the family. Any info on shore locations would be great. Mostly chasing bread and butter stuff as I'll have the wife and kids in tow. Anyone that's generous enough to take me out for a half day boating would be very much appreciated, chip in for usuals.
Be great to meet some SW fishwreckers.

Fishing full moon
Submitted by shoby on Tue, 2014-01-14 22:21Hi all,
I was wondering what are your thoughts on full moon fishing?
1. Is it good or bad?
2. Fishing is good during day time or night time?
3. Does location matter, i.e river or sea?
Cheers :)

Help- Tralier Bearing Buddies falling off??
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Tue, 2014-01-14 11:37Hi all
Just after a bit of help...
I had my trailer bearings and buddies replaced a couple of weeks ago in preparation for a trip from home (Carnarvon) to Exmouth. They looked the goods, but by the time I got to the local servo to fuel up, one of the bearing buddies had fallen off. I though they may not have been knocked in properly or perhaps overfilled, causing too much pressure etc and forcing them to pop off, so I cut my losses and stopped through autopro and got another set to put on myself. By the time I got there, I had also lost the 2nd one. So I put them on myself and only partially filled them (the buddies) with grease and headed off. I stopped through coral bay for lunch, and they were both gone again. WTF? I decided to carry on with them bare and bought a few of the plain steel caps in exxy, and put them on at the boat ramp before putting the boat in. By the time I had pulled the boat out at the end of the day and dragged it back to the mates place I was staying at, the steel caps were also gone. With not much other options, I bought 6 more caps and just repeated this process each day... They caps were on tight and a good fit, so much so that I couldn't just take them off by hand after each launch/ retrieve...
Has anyone experienced this before and if so, what was the problem, cause its got me buggered...
Ive had a look at the hubs themselves and their doesn't seem to be an excess play in the wheels which could cause them to come loose.
Could possibly be the wrong type of bearings (holden/ ford etc) were used?
Im bringing it back to the tyre shop tomorrow but was just after a bit of info/ ammo if anyone has had the same experience?
Ive done a bit of googling and most people suggest it could be result of the bearing buddies being too full of grease. As I said above, this couldn't be the case as they were only partially full the second time and even the steel caps disappear...
cheers in advance!

Cooking Crabs Query
Submitted by Aaron Santos on Mon, 2014-01-13 12:35Has anyone left the crabs over night on ice and cooked them in the morning. I ask as I have always cooked them soon as I get home so they are still alive. But some nights it becomes pretty late.
My question is, are they still good to cook if they are dead but on ice the following morning?
Whats your opinion on this?

East Coast Freshwater Natives in WA
Submitted by Poltergeist on Mon, 2014-01-13 11:40Just read an article in the latest Western Australian Fishing Magazine about the possibility of stocking some of our freshwater impoundments with east coast natives. It seems to me that these articles pop up every year in the magazines but nothing ever comes from it. As a group the WA recreational fishing community is huge and should have plenty of political clout, what do we need to do to get the ball rolling with getting some of the public irrigation dams stocked??
The eastern states have now been stocking their freshwater impoundments for years with Murray Cod, Yellowbelly and Bass with outstanding success. Here in WA we have plenty of suitable waters which currently are full of Redfin Perch which would provide a great food source for these fish. It seems like such a waste having huge bodies of water like Wellington and Harvey Dams not being utilised to their full potential.
In my opinion the WA trout fishery is in decline with the continuing trend of warmer summers making survival more difficult or even impossible in some waters. Last years large fish kills in Big Brook Dam and Lefroy Brook are evidence of that. How many died elsewhere that just sank to the bottom or were eaten by marron that we dont even know about? It seems to me that the returns in many of the so called Trout waters are small (and decreasing) in relation to the number of fish being stocked by Fisheries. Meanwhile my pet Murray Cod was perfectly happy in his aquarium yesterday when water temps topped 31C !!!
Diehard Trout anglers are generally against the stocking of east coast natives as they fear they will eat the trout and take over the water. Evidence from many of the dams in the eastern states actually shows the opposite occurring, lake Eildon in Vic being one example of this.
Thoughts anyone?

Marron Wellington and Stirling Dams
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2014-01-13 10:22Hey guys,
Just chasing a bit of info re: Marroning in these 2 dams. Does anyone, or has anyone tried these dams this year?
Generally is there less people at these 2 dams rather than Harvey dam?
As it will be my first attempt at snaring this weekend, whats everyone opinion on technique on approaching a marron you have spotted without spooking them?
Been about 16-18 years since I last did it, back then you could use a scoop net in the dams!!
Cheers

Is it just me
Submitted by psion on Mon, 2014-01-13 10:02Is it just me or is crabbing in the swan more difficult this year?
Last year we consistantly bagged out with good size crabs.
Went out last weekend we only got ten,
On saturday we came out with 4.
They were big with the smallest 1 inch over size, but it was a hard slog. Curious as to possible reasons
has the season started later?
was last year a bumper season?
hell; is it the temp?
or was last weekend just a bad fishing weekend?
some pics..
This baby went 720mm tip tp tip
across the dining room table.
Still those four gave us a good feed. Maybe the next trip is Coburn.

Makocraft Canyon Runner 6.1
Submitted by Guardy on Sun, 2014-01-12 22:15Anyone got one or has had one? Looking for opinions good or bad. Reviews I've seen so far say they're both noisy and quiet in a decent sea. Noisy due to a lighter hull, 4mm compared to 5mm used on other Ali plate boats.

Submitted by Bazooked on Sun, 2014-01-12 17:59how do these rods rate? looking at getting the 1.5pe, running 20lb on my rarenium 2500, they are well priced from what i can see, will be my first time jigging so dont want to get to carried away as i dont own a boat.

Cray pot rant
Submitted by Gray on Sun, 2014-01-12 17:05Apologies in advance for the sook.
Have had my pots on a spot about 6mile off Hillary's for a while now, bagging out easy every pull.
Went to pull them today, upon approaching noticed a big boat pretty damn close to where my pots would be. No biggy, we all share the ocean. If I wasn't in an 18 footer in shit conditions I would have high tailed it there just incase something suss was going on. They didn't move until we got pretty close and were heading straight for them, then they were off in a flash.
Pulled the first pot right where they had been, nothing and no bait (heart breaking when we were expecting plenty haha) but we didn't jump to conclusions just yet. Pulled the second pot and though had thinned out from previous pulls, we still got 8.
Its pretty obvious that we scared them off before they got to the next pot. I cant believe how you can put in all the hard work finding a spot out in the middle of nowhere so you don't get robbed and some rich b&$@ard probably on the way home from his awesome weekend at rotto in his 40 foot boat decides hel cap it off with a few free Crays.
Does this happen often?
It was heart breaking enough pulling them up from 33m by hand empty, but knowing you'd been robbed was a kick in the nuts (he probably had a which too haha)
Anyway thanks for the vent, I feel better now, or maybe that's the beer.
Cheers gray

Fisheries bagged a good haul of crabs yesterday arvo on the sound
Submitted by fincher on Sun, 2014-01-12 16:36WEll went out in the sound on the potting for crabs with me dad and brothers Saturday arvo. we picked up 10 crabs then also went for a flick for some squid inbetween pulls. And bagged 10 reasonable size squid. Had to be back by 630pm to go to a surprise party. Put the boat back on the trailer pulled up to the rigging section to do the usual stuff, car pulls up behind us and was the fisheries. did usual checks as they were checking the crabs we asked had it been a busy day and caught anybody( we knew we were all good all crabs were oversized chucked few close ones back) they said yes 3 guys with 204 undersized crabs we were gobsmacked with the amount and were very pleased these 3 people were caught it's a bloody disgrace for taking so many let alone undersized ones but in all good to see fisheries out doing checks
thanks chris
