Bit of advice please
Submitted by joycey on Tue, 2013-03-26 21:45Heh guys,
Bit of advice please
Want to try some anchored fishing around the five fathom bank out behind Garden Island.
Should I fish along the inside or outside of the bank and what sort of depths / features.
Was thinking of fishing the outer edge of the bank but unsure of depth that can anchor in comfortably?
Also is there any risks anchoring in this area with waves
Cheers for any tips.

GPS positioning
Submitted by dant on Tue, 2013-03-26 16:08Gday All,
I have a quick query - prob a stupid one and easy to fix, but being very new to boating i am still relying on GPS for positioning.
The other day i was out in the middle of the river, yet the GPS was showing me going over the bank, any suggestions of how to fix?
My GPS system is a Humminbird 97 Matrix series.
Thanks

Rat Island, Abrolhos
Submitted by Versus on Tue, 2013-03-26 15:53Heading up there in a few weeks time, bit of a long story but will mainly be stuck to landbased. I know its a fairly obsure/specific location, but if anyone has any suggestions of whats worth going for and/or where, that'd be much appreciated. May also take a speargun, tho I'm very amatuer and can only dive to maybe 6m.
cheers.

Quobba and Blow Holes
Submitted by elliotbirch on Tue, 2013-03-26 15:14Hey guys,
I'm heading up to Blow Holes beach on Friday and am staying there for a week, will be with people who have been going up there for a long time and have a 'shack' on the beach which I believe is at the south end? Just wondering what the reports are like at the moment from anyone who has been fishing the area?! They have a boat which we will take at everyday, weather regarding though. I've heard that the beach is quite a calm bay as it is surrounded by a reef system, so wondering if there is any point throwing mulies off the beach at night for a bit of fun?
Thanks! Any comments much appreciated.

Rod to Match Catalina
Submitted by choorles on Tue, 2013-03-26 13:55Hey guys,
Im heading up to West Moore Island in a month and have got most of my gear sorted but want to find a casting rod to match my Catalina 4500
Currently have 50lb braid on it looking at a rod to throw poppers for gt's etc off a boat. Already checked out a few rods but they seem a bit stiff was hoping to get something with a little bit of finesse in the tip to possibly work some plastics/lighter lures as well.
Any help greatly appreciated, Budget $200-$300
(also anyone been to west moore this year?)
Cheers

DF70 Suzuki Questions
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2013-03-26 11:21Hello all. I have asked this question to a couple of members on here but now will put it out to the wider audience to see if anyone has had personal experience with this. I'm still doing my home work and want to get it right. I want to put a DF70 on the rear of my 4.75m Quintrex Bayhunter project boat. The weight of this is 155kg compared to the DF60 of 104kg. I have been told it's possible to put the 70 on but want to make absolutely sure. Are there any Gurus who can steer me in the right direction. Cheers Andy

GT Fever in the Whitsundays QLD Inaugural Tournament
Submitted by Longcast on Mon, 2013-03-25 21:58GT Fever in the Whitsundays is a Giant Trevally catch and release Tournament.
Located in the Whitsundays QLD which has one of the largest population of GT's in Australia.
Knowing this is not for every one but there is a die hard fraternity of GT anglers who view this site I thought I would post as an information only thread.
This year will be the inaugural tournament and all are welcome.
Breifing is friday the 3 rd of May at the Airlie Beach Game Fishing Club QLD.
Fishing will commence Saturday morning and cease sunday afternoon (Times TBA).
There will be a number of different categories and the rules are nice and simple.
Catch and Release Comp with fish being measured on a brag mat (Wet) picture taken and then released points given for length (Nose To Fork).
Min size GT 60cm.
Fish are only eligible if they are caught on artificial lures (No Bait).
Hooks are Barbless.
Any line class or type may be used.
There Will be three categories.
Biggest (Longest) GT and Runner Up.
Most GT's landed by an individual and runner up.
Champion Team (most GT's divided by number of anglers on boat) and runnner up team.
Entry will be $50 which covers a snag in a bag on the friday night breifing, a solid meal during the Sunday night presentation and the rest will go towardds the trophies etc.Its important to note this event is not about the cash prizes or big prizes...its about having a bit of fun.

FIFO...finally
Submitted by fisho-ron on Mon, 2013-03-25 21:19well its only taken about 6months, but I have finally secured a fifo job. in training as we speak and will be for another 2 weeks and then its off to Yandi(rio tinto). I will be doing power line construction in a variety of machines. only prob is the 4/1 shift, but to get a start had to take it. its gunna be hard not fishing as much but when im home I will hammer it as much as possible. so my question to you lot is..... how to keep sane in the 4 weeks with no fishing?? and how many times do you FIFO's come home to shitty weather and get no fishing at all? I have got myself a laptop for site, i cant miss out on the F/W stuff, i would go round the twist totally. cheers ron edit; had to can my exxy trip as well, had to choose between the job or exxy.....the job won!

Seasons and Fish Behaviour
Submitted by Spinnerak on Mon, 2013-03-25 20:33 Hi guys,
Just after your thoughts, but do fish get less aggressive in winter?
Just a trend I seem to have come across is the number of fish i spook/follow in winter seems to be a lot higher in winter than summer on lures.
Cheers, Andrew

Kalbarri boat fishing trip
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Mon, 2013-03-25 18:02Hey guys I'm planning another trip to Kalbarri from April 10-14. Been there a few times before but this time I'm taking up my 18 foot pacemaker. I'm aware of the dangers of the river mouth but as this will be the first time I've had the boat up there I'm not really sure on where to start fishing, so I was hoping someone might be able to help me out a little. I'm not asking for gps marks, but just some general areas to start looking. I'm hoping to target tuna and macks while trolling and the normal demersals bottom bashing. If anyone could please give me a heads up it would be much appreciated.
Edit: If anyone could give me any info as to what weather to expect for April would be good also.
Cheers, Jarrod

Straight after i lost my rod one of the guys caught a 10 kilo mulloway it was great fun and i am definatly going next weekend!!!

Trolling/Boating etiquitte
Submitted by Subaquatic on Mon, 2013-03-25 13:11Twice this year I have had a pattern with teasers cut off by another boat cutting across the stern. It does not take much of an effort to stay back +30 metres.
Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?
It took bagloads of effort to refrain from action/comment when the clowns pulled up along side me at O/Reef later that day.
So Mr Grey Rhib with the pirate flag, count ya blessings that I ended up having a good day.....and you owe me a new Witchdoctor.

Some FW crew have bad manners
Submitted by bradz on Mon, 2013-03-25 12:58I have just come across another post where someone is trying to sell an item and some of the "know it alls" on this site have decided to derail his ad.
If you have any helpful advice you would like to offer to someone selling an item, use the correct protocol and send them a PM. If the item is too cheap, too expensive, who cares. It is not up to individuals to make a hero of themselves.
Adam, could you please look into placing a stick on top of the for sale section clearly stating that posters are not to negatively comment on for sale items. Unfortunately this type of behaviour is getting to common and it gets me riled up.
If you think my stand point is wrong, feel free to reply and we can start up a discussion on the matter. For those who agree with me, let Adam know that you feel the same.
End of rant...for now.
PS: Bad manners $hit me to tears.
