Fishing Almanac Accuracy
Submitted by Justo82 on Thu, 2013-03-28 13:54G'day everyone.
Another pesky question of mine.
Who here uses a Fishing Almanac? Do you find it accurate? I picked up Tim Smiths Almanac with bite times and tide times the other day. Some interesting stuff in there besides the times to fish etc with different species, size limits, knots and rigs etc.
Hoping it is accurate, as it will possibly help remove the less productive days on the water.
All useful input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Justo

Turbo deisel 4WD servicing
Submitted by Tandawg on Thu, 2013-03-28 08:36Sorry but not really fishing related. I have purchased a 3L turbo deisel Rodeo and its due for my service with it at 110000Km. Being the very first deisel I have owned, I am looking for any opinions on a good/reputable service centre NOR (Joondalup area??). Is there a "general" ball park figure for a service? I have heard DPF being bandied around but don't even know if my vehicle has got one.
Thanks in advance

First Coral Bay trip
Submitted by buddharock on Wed, 2013-03-27 20:55Hi guys,
Heading to Coral Bay on the school holidays and a mate is taking his boat. I've been looking into different topics and past posts and wondering if anyone has some advice on tying rigs for red emperor out deep, around 60-70m. From what I've looked into, I might lose a bit of lead to sharks and rough ground and had seen something about tying heavier leader on the sinker or setting the lead above the hooks. Basically, should I just use the basic paternoster or go for something different?
Also checking if I've got suitable gear. Got a Penn 760 slammer with 50lb braid, Okuma Force Fb80 with 30lb braid and a Penn Accord 7000 with 30lb braid and the rods are a Penn spinfisher and another boat rod. Should I also take up the little flick rod and bait runner to play with off the beach? Going up with my wife and kids and staying in a caravan at Peoples caravan park.
Pretty excited and looking forward to some good fishing!
Thanks

Jetski running costs vs runabout
Submitted by Shane O on Wed, 2013-03-27 19:44Thinking of selling the boat and setting a secondhand seadoo or yamaha jetski for fishing, just wondering if anyone has done this. And if so are they more or less expensive to maintain, have heard some horror stories. But they were at boat yards where they don't sell jetski's

Repowering Runabout
Submitted by joel88 on Wed, 2013-03-27 18:11Hi all,
Looking at repowering my boat and just after a bit of advice. I currently have a 2002 40hp Mercury on the back but would love a bit more power when kneeboarding and biscuiting. The plate on the hull says it can take up to a 70hp but I can not afford a brand new one. Becuase of this I have been looking at second hand ones. So my questions are:
1) Where would be the best place to pick up a second hand outboard and trade in my 40hp one with installation
2) Seeing as I already have all the mercury dials setup in the dash would I be better getting another Mercury and just swapping motor? Only issue with this is that Mercury only make a 75hp which is why I've been looking at yamaha and suzuki who make a 70hp. Would putting a 75hp void my insurance or cause any other problems?
Thanks

Your thoughts
Submitted by NOHA on Wed, 2013-03-27 14:48I just had a chats with some friends who had been out recently with a charter. Im not going to say who or where or when, so dont ask. This is only to do with how you feel about what happened.
After an early morning start and travelling out to the grounds, the punters where set up with the gear and away they went. Fish were caught across the boat, as you would hope for after paying out $250+ each for the day.
However, im told, the skipper and crew picked up their own rods and proceeded to jig from the front of the boat instead of attending to the paying customers. The punters had to net there own fish in cases and if a new rig required wait until the crew brought their own line in. One punter got a nice dhuie only to have the deckie get a bigger one then pay out on him over the merits of jigs verses bait.
At the end of the day the crew had caught two large dhuies, one which they shared with the the paying customers, one they kept for themselves.
Now, is it just me, or is this wrong. These guys seem to look at there job as a day out fishing for themselves that the punters have paid for.
I know my friends where a bit stunned by the crews actions and they have been on many charters. This is the first time they have treated this way.
I never use charters myself, have my own boat, so I have no knowledge as to whether this is common/normal practice.
As the title says
Whats your thoughts on this practice

Kalbarri Next Week
Submitted by dj dvd on Wed, 2013-03-27 13:25Hey guys
I'm heading up to Kalbarri next Monday and am looking for some recent info on whats biting up there. My dream is catch a landbased snapper but it seems it's the wrong time of year to target them from shore. Will mainly be fishing landbased and maybe hiring a tinny for one day in the river. Had a look at some of the old reports in the search function and got some good info. Anyone know anything about what to target up there this time of year in the river and landbased?
Cheers

dunsborough
Submitted by jayce on Wed, 2013-03-27 11:24Gday fellas
I am going to be in dunsborough next weekend and i am tossing up wether to take the boat,
If i do is there a suitable place to launch a 6m ali boat in dunsborough. I have a 4wd hilux to launch it with.
I have been looking at my charts and it looks like there is a few good rises along the 30m line strait out past the wreck. Would these be worth a go/ or would i be better off heading out to wrights bank off the point and looking for rises and lumps around there?
Will be chasing any demersals really and maybe have a crack at squid.
