Submitted by PattyT on Thu, 2012-10-11 15:37Hey guys, heading up to Hervey Bay/1770 in the next few weeks on an 8 day trip. We'll be in an RV and mostly fishing land based. Besides the Uragen Pier, the rocks in 1770 i was just wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions for some good spots or options in that area? We'll also be heading out of a few guided charters if the winds play nice.
Thanks guys

Buying Boats Interstate
Submitted by Francis on Thu, 2012-10-11 12:47G'day guys,
Just wondering if any of you guys have purchased a boat from interstate and how you went about it / what were your experiences ?
I will soon be in the market for a striper or a trophy (at this stage... still doing my research) but I notice that there is a lot more boat choice and better prices in the eastern states.
I imagine the whole process of viewing / testing / purchasing / getting it back to WA (either driving it or some other way) would be an adventure to say the least. Would have to allow at least $5000 on top of the price to cover trips, accomodation and transport back.
Keen to hear any one's similar experiences.

Submitted by Jase123 on Thu, 2012-10-11 12:00Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone can give me a little bit of information on White Hills atm.
Is there much weed? Is it worth a fish?
Was thinking about going tomorrow night - what should we target?
Cheers! Jase.

Mandurah Boat Show
Submitted by GenesisCraft on Thu, 2012-10-11 09:00Hey All,
Just wondering if many of you are heading to the boat show this weekend. Hopefully the weather holds out on sat/sun because it seems like this years show has alot to offer!
If you do come down make sure you have a walk through our stand (near the pub of course). You don't have to be buying a boat (althought that would be great) to come through and say g'day. We would love to hear other peoples thoughts about fishing/boating in W.A. it always helps to "keep your finger on the pulse" as they say.
Also feedback on our craft would be nice as well I always find it better to have a chat in person with people then you can get more of a gauge on everyone's thoughts and opinions!!
Well, hope to see you all there! Happy boating!
P.S. The boat in the photo will be one of the ones we have on display!!

bluewater exmouth
Submitted by richo72 on Wed, 2012-10-10 19:25hi guys
dont normally praise people publicly but i just had to thank the guys at Bluewater Exmouth, in particular NEIL .
The guys gave us some great advice and managed to put us on to some great fish, even if the sharks took their fair share.
It was a joy to see people that enjoyed their job and would go out of their way to help.
Thanks

Tablet / smart phone app For those with Go Pro Hero 2'S
Submitted by Muppet on Wed, 2012-10-10 14:29Just a bit of info for those out with Go Pro Hero 2's who may want to download this new app.
The application for tablets and smart phones was released today. Go to apple store to free download.
Have downloaded it already and works a treat. Allows you to view footage in real time on your Ipad or iphone (with a small time delay). As long as you have the wireless backpack.
I was thinking of using the app to view footage from a tow cam !
cheers

Fishing in Harvey
Submitted by Us3 on Wed, 2012-10-10 12:02Ok, here's the story....... my 14 year old son who is a mad keen fisherman but never catches anything! We live in Harvey so we have been out to all the local dams and beachs and still not caught a thing. Where is somewhere I can take him that he might have some luck, what sort of bait do we use, what sort of hook/rig/rod and anything you can possibly think of we'll probably need to know - have you gathered by now, I have no bloody clue?!
Thanks for any advice you could pass on!
Cheers, Mandie

Mid-west Bait
Submitted by whitesr on Wed, 2012-10-10 09:15Hello,
I was wondering what people use for fresh bait in Mid-west WA. I moved across from QLD and am used to pumping for yabbies, hand-netting for prawns, catching beach worms and using pippies. However it would appear that most if not all of these options are not possible (especially with hand-net restrictions). I have heard that yabbies and worms etc aren't present as the water is not as rich with nutrients. The absence of high quality esteries doesn't help the situation. Squid is an option but as I wrote on another post this seems to be quite unreliable going into summer
I live in Geraldton and I am land-based and am targeting Whiting ranging up to Mullaway. I guess my question is what fresh bait are people getting? I am tight and would prefer not to have to buy bait also because I've never had to before and ultra fresh is best! Thanks

Soft Plastics to Catch Whiting
Submitted by whitesr on Wed, 2012-10-10 06:49Hello,
Recently I caught a couple 35cm+ yellow-fin Whiting using GULP! Sandworm (natural colour) as bait. This was done in the surf around Geraldton. I was wondering if anyone else has had success using a similar bait? Type and colours? Thanks

Summer Squid
Submitted by whitesr on Wed, 2012-10-10 06:44Hello,
I live in Geraldton and after catching some good numbers of calamari in the cooler months until September, and I have had very little success lately. I have heard that the warmer months are much worst. Is this right? Looks like I'll have to buy bait now. Thanks

Furuno FCV 668
Submitted by silly on Tue, 2012-10-09 20:56Anyone have experience with these units? Currently have one of these in a boat i just got, it has a thru hull transdcuer (not sure which one).. Didnt get a good chance to play aroudn with it on the water but does look like it might be alright even if it is a bit old? I would be pairing it up with a HDS combo, going to try to run the 2 trasnducers so i get "back track". Or should i just bite the bullet and get a FCV 627? WOuld a new furuno plug into the older thru hull transducer?
cheers

Improvisation - what have you made work?
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2012-10-09 18:28I picked up a copy of the latest Western Angler magazine today and read an interesting article by Peter Anderton about how he made a trolling teaser out of wire traces and cd's. Good read. Got me thinking that there are probably lots of other instances of improvisation out there, perhaps some even subject to patent pending! In the past i have seen spanners and padlocks used as sinkers, but what are some of the more interesting creations you have seen or made?

Swan breamin advice
Submitted by Versus on Tue, 2012-10-09 15:14gday all,
after getting my first bream on lure in Kalbarri recently I'm itching to get onto some here. Planning on heading to Belmont area, starting at the end of belmont ave and working back towards Burswood (shore based). High tide is around 5.15am, almanac says best fishing time is 6.08am, i reckon i'll get there at more lik 6.45 so fishing a falling tide. Will be using plastics if the blowies aren't in hordes, otherwise only got a couple harbodies n blades.
Was just wondering if any of the better breamers on here can offer any tips or advice, I've had a few goes in the river near canning bridge and S of PYC with no luck, getting a bit frustrating.
oh and if anyone wants to join us that'd be cool too, cheers.
