Fishing in Harvey

Ok, here's the story....... my 14 year old son who is a mad keen fisherman but never catches anything! We live in Harvey so we have been out to all the local dams and beachs and still not caught a thing. Where is somewhere I can take him that he might have some luck, what sort of bait do we use, what sort of hook/rig/rod and anything you can possibly think of we'll probably need to know - have you gathered by now, I have no bloody clue?!

Thanks for any advice you could pass on!  Cheers, Mandie

 Hi there, Catching fish

Hi there, Catching fish regularly is about accumulating knowledge, this happens over many years for most of us. But its difficult  to gain knowledge when you arent catching anything, firstly  try to go where others are fishing so can learn a little from those around you. This may mean getting up at 3am to be on the water at sunrise ...because this is often what the people who are catching fish are doing. I would target easier fish to catch like redfin rather than trout and maybe bait, rather than lures.  Im sure someone here will be able to help a little more than me, good luck.

But the dam at Harvey has fished very well this year so far . Here are some of my reports and you can do a search for other members reports and advice.

http://fishwrecked.com/image/mondays-rainbow  Here you can clearly see the area i was fishing .

http://fishwrecked.com/image/harvey-brown   Read down the comments as i answer some questions.

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/harvey-rainbows   As you will see , very early morning and late arvo are the best times to fish as the trout come on the bight.

http://fishwrecked.com/forum/trout-lures-and-flies   Here are the lures i use. The spinner types in the first picture are a good and cheep lure to start with and they catch fish as good as any others. You can buy quite a few of these in the local servo on the highway just before the road to the dam.

Hope this helps you a bit. And keep trying , in the mornings and arvo's you should see the trout coming to the surface ( rise ) keep casting your lures and one will eventualy grab it .

Cheers Grant .
