Todays Crays
Submitted by tiimmbo on Tue, 2010-11-30 14:27Had a nice liesurely start at 1015 out of Ocean Reef looking for some new spots, dropped the anchor near an old fishing mark and dropped down into a beautiful hole loaded with crays. Was about 18-20m, vis was only about 8-10mtrs but a great way to spend the morning. Breeze was coming in just as we surfaced. Was good to see the fisheries boys at the ramp checking everyone on the way in too.

last minute exmouth accomodation
Submitted by silly on Mon, 2010-11-29 22:24Made a last minute decision to head up to exxy over the Xmas break. Tried the ring around but seems all the caravan park cabins/chalets are full over this period. No probs with getting a powered camping site tho.. (the heat didnt kill us the last couple of times round but thought a little luxury wouldnt be too bad)
I also tried ray white and exmouth cape realty but have nothing suitable.
Anyone know of other reasonable places i can try?? Its only 3ppl and pure fishing trip, so dont need anything too fancy
cheers

Shark Bay
Submitted by Jack Pretorius on Mon, 2010-11-29 22:11Hi All
I am taking the family to Shark Bay for a week. We are leaving this Friday and I will be taking the tinny with 4.2m.
I have read through the old forum topics on fishing in this area, but would appreciate some tips and advice.
We will be camping in the Monkey Mia resort, being a family holiday but would still want to do some serious fishing while there.
Any suggestions please.
Thanks
Jack

Blackwall Reach Boat Ramps + Fishing?
Submitted by jus on Mon, 2010-11-29 19:26Hi All,
Was thinking of testing out the "new" outboard tommorrow arvo around the blackwall reach area...can anyone recommend the best place to launch from? It's only a 4.55m fibreglass runabout/dinghy so should be able to launch from any old ramp!
Anyone been fishing round there lately? what's everyone been catching around there recently?
Cheers,
Justin

sunday barges
Submitted by Markie on Mon, 2010-11-29 16:22Well as ya all know was a very slowww dayy yesterday. Me and my uncle firstly went to north barge and as we got there everyone started to leave and the charter boats kept movin around, soo was not a good sign to rock up to. No hits so we went to outter barge where we had a few drifts with nothing. Everyone left again and one more dropp bang i was on, lost to shark so close to top. Only lost my hook and then we moved on back to north barge. Found some big schools with no hits but we decided to keep trying. JohnF and his crew came around and then we found a decent school few drops with nothing. School dissapeared from the sounder justttt, with still a little bit showing. Bang my uncle was on, i quickly re drop bangg i was on and it was a BIGGG one, double hookup sweeet. Two minutes later uncles gets sharked only got his hook bitten off. Im still goin but not regaining any line since the hit. Then it just let goo got my jig hooks and everything :s. So we started sounding around again, found them i dropped bang i was on, got him up and released well. Second drift bang i was on got him up and released well. JohnF then left and was just us and another 2 boats which had just rocked up. 3rd drop bang i was on, got him up, was a bit smaller one and released well also. So it finished off well for me :) here is the pictures of the first two sambos all caught on jigs, no bait for me :)

>> Club Capricorn Shark Bash Saturday Night <<
Submitted by DieHard on Sun, 2010-11-28 21:08Hey all,
So after 4 weeks of planning saturday finally came and the night of the Club Capricorn Shark bash was on!
first to rock up was me and after about 5 mins member george rocked up. because of the strong SSW wind we decided not to go south of the rock groyne but to go north about 100m. after about 20-30mins Graham rocked up with his family.
after about 30mins, when finished rigging up the rods and waiting for more members to come down, Cuthbad walked to the group of us settled fishos and asked if this was the fishwrecked shark bash, after saying yes it was he said "oh okay we actually just put our gear on the otherside but we will come over soon".
after the rest of the crew came down, we were all rigged up and i was ready to paddle out some baits with the thought in mind about flangies... after paddling 80m or so i dropped the bait and signalled to dad to keep tension otherwise it would have gotten tangled in the weed as mentioned before... after 10mins of having the first baits out my rod was getting some aggressive tugs so i ran over and held the rod in my hands, tug, tug tug,,,,, TUG!.... STRIKE! unfortunately i think i was the second too late as i didnt hook up... so i reeled in the line and my whole bait was gone! ***ended up paddling out 5 or 6 times!!!!!
after it got to sunset i decided i wasnt touching that water anymore, and seeing as CuthBad was using slides, knowing I had a few good ones myself, i decided to change rigs and give it a go! Although i didnt have a CLUE what to do at all! so i walked over to Cuthbad and asked for some help and let me tell you he gave me every single tip and more! from rigging up to getting the bait down the line!!!
good job cuthbad! i was sure enough impressed and knew this guy knows what hes doing and sure enough as i finished rigging up just about to put the bait in the water,,, Cuthbad's rod get the strongest run pulling the rod holder over and sure enough dragging the rod down the dunes!
after about 5mins, told by Cuthbad that it was a baby bronzie. it hit the wash and sure enough it was! there was me taking pictures of what was happening (only put up the good ones). this baby bronzie was released shortly after and made my night!
after that capture there was not another fish hooked.. but there were definately some out there as cuthbad was getting a few tugs every now and then. now here is the funny thing. Cuthbad thought he had cast over dicey (who was 30m north) and every time cuthbad reeled in, Diceys rod would start tugging. Cuthbad stopped, Diceys rod stopped and so on. well after cuthbad completely reeled in, diceys rod was still tugging! and the thing is that whole time dicey was standing right next to his rod! ahahahha! we ran over and told dicey about it and he reeled in and sure enough his bait had been chomped on!
but other than that the night was quiet, apart from the odd yell from me dying from all the midgees attacking me! ahahahha!
Cheers for all the crew that made it down, it was GREAT to meet people and put faces to names!
Cheers,
Eric

bad day at the barges
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2010-11-28 20:17well....
hon-su, crushed(karl), troy(my son) and myself headed out from woodys to the barges, was a late start due to the winds but turned out to be a nice day in the end..
thats the good news...
hit the south barge first with the sounder lighting up, we all thought...yer here we go....that was the end of that.
nothing, not a touch and that was how it ened up all day.
we checked every wreck and seen a few members out there as well, john f, hoookt, luke, but it all seemed quiet with not much happening for us, even with the pro onboard.
on the way in hon-su jigged up the small pinky and that is all we got all day.
thanks again to hon-su for putting up with us for the day and sorry for not getting onto some fish, but you seen what we did, so who knows.
anyway still better than sitting at home pulling you know what.

What's this, please??
Submitted by r.gates on Sun, 2010-11-28 15:44Hi All
Just come back from a day out off Mandurah looking for some whiting around the five fathom bank. No luck with the whiting, but we did catch some parrot fish, wrasse and rock cod, all released, including this one. It was approx. 30cm long and as you can see, large spikes, bulging eyes and wing-like side fins.
We caught another one later, this time it was very red on its underbelly...it too, went back.
My first thought was a gurnard, but after googling it, couldn't find anything that looked like this one.
Your thoughts on this would be appreciated....any any thoughts on finding some suitable whiting ground around the FFB would also be greatly appreciated, thanks.
regards
rusty...

3 people needed for jigging trip Sun 5th Dec
Submitted by motty on Sun, 2010-11-28 11:06Hey guys. I have booked out the boat with Mills for a jigging trip on Sunday 5th Dec. WE WILL NOT BE GOING TO THE PATCH. WE WILL BE GOING TO THE BARGES. I really need the last 3 people to make this happen. I promise you it will be a good day. cost will be $220 and this will include jigs for the day (you wont have to buy any jigs at all) Have 12 people so far, but need 3 more. If you bring your own gear, you can fish all day if you want to (or have a rest for a beer or 2). Please send me a PM or reply on here if you are keen. The sambos are now on the chew and are finally hitting the jigs on the barges, and there are some BIG sambos out there. Would be good to catch up and meet some new people from here. The boat will be the Aussie Warrior which is a great boat for jigging and also has large flat screen tv and a kick arse stereo system.
Cheers
Motty

perth weather/winds Sat 4th Dec
Submitted by turts on Sun, 2010-11-28 10:35hi guys coming from interstate for a samson bash heading out on sat 4th dec with bluejuice
had a great time out on the fish last year
checkin the forecast currently has saturday expecting rain
still a week away but does what weather source is the most reliable in regards to wind?
dont mind the rain but often the wind is following it and bit worried it has the potential to be cancelled?
is it still too early to predict the wind forecast???
look forward to the input of you local experienced guys in regards to wind strength/directions to help ease the mind as you can understand the anticipation of bad weather kills you!!
