Where Do Sound Pinkies Go??
Submitted by VAGABOND on Mon, 2008-11-24 16:26Does any one know where the big pinkies go from the sound after spawning? Do they just spread out offshore? stay in the sound in deeper water? go out over the shelf? Interesting as you very rare catch them offshore over around the 7kg mark. The most common size seems to be around the 40cm to 60cm I have noticed that it has been like this for most of my 20 odd years of fishing out wide and have only got onto a School of Snapper out wide that have been of similar size to the ones in the Sound once and that was over 20 years ago in 110m of water. Has always puzzled me does any one have any Info??

good to see
Submitted by scotto on Sun, 2008-11-23 16:51went for a dive today with a couple of mates to some metro lumps we hadn't been to in 2 years.
got plenty of crays, but the best thing was the amount of baby dhuies that were flappin around. on one small lump, i lost count after 12 or so, and just kept seeing them.
used to go there week in, week out, and always get crays, but only ever see a couple of fish. finally looks like banning the pros from fishing the metro area is starting to pay dividends. good signs for the next few years i reckon.
scotto.

Echo Sounder Workshop!
Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2008-11-22 14:57"Echo Sounder Workshop" is finally here. John Adams (good mate) has been around boats & fishing all his life and is a Master class 4 skipper, Master Class 4 trainer and a registered RST trainer also.
He's been on the water doing various jobs like North sea commercially/rock lobster/trawling prawns/offshore oil & gas/marine officer with Marine & Harbours (DPI) and has spent more than 40 years on the water all around the world. The other thing is John hasnt lost touch with being a rec fisher as he's always had rec boats and likes his local KG's and fishing up North also.
Johns been speaking to me for sometime now about getting a "Echo Sounder Workshop" up and running. I've been asked many times over the last 14 years in this game if anyone offers this sort of stuff and not the case. I've been asked to do such myself and dont have the time to but after along time in the making John has done it.
This workshop will cover the essential knowledge and skills required to understand and effectively operate an echo sounder;
* What is an echo sounder
* How does an echo sounder work
* Setting up and tuning your echo sounder
* Understanding and interpreting screen images
* Selecting different ranges & screen views
* Real examples of screen images
* Locating sea bottom, structures, wrecks, fish
* Installation and care of unit
& more
The workshop runs for approx 3 hours (plus) and is $150. He actually offers a 100% money back offer if your not happy with the workshop. I've sat down with John and have gone through the initial worshop setup and offered my thoughts and was impressed with the presentation. Johns also consulted leading brand manufacturers and has got their input also. The workshop covers all units and has been made generic so all can benefit from. If your looking at buying a sounder, already own a sounder but want to learn more about it or you want to better your knowledge then this is a great.

Tuna Tuna everywhere
Submitted by Mick on Sat, 2008-11-22 09:29G'day guys
Went on a solo recon mission on Wednesday. Awesome day out. Heap of undersize Dhuies, dropped a pinky which would have gone 8kg +, and then three triple hook ups on yellowfins. At first I thought I'd hooked a cray pot with all three rods screaming at the same time. After the first Triple hookup I thought that wouldn't happen again. After the second I thought that couldn't happen again. After the third I put the rods away. All in less than hour. Found some awesome ground. Bought a nice pinky and a couple of tuna home for a feed. Twas a great day.
Cheers Mick
