Southern Cross Charters
Submitted by Lamby on Sat, 2009-08-29 14:33G'day All,
after getting the run around from a charter company down Freo which is affiliated with another site I was sick of being treated like a limbless leper. Fortunately this coincided with me joining FW and finding Southern Cross Charters, subsequently we have a charter on tomorrow (after getting the lads to commit!!) So far I have nothing but praise in dealing with Kim from Southern Cross he has been the consummate professional and has been very patient with my requests and inability to organise a piss up in a brewery so to speak. Can't wait to get on board and from my lot there should be a few sore and sorry heads early on following a big night on the sauce with the rugby, shouldn't be a problem berleying up!!
Anyway I will post pics if we get on to the good stuff and I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the fishwrecked site for igniting my passion for fishing again and also Kim for putting up with my sh!t. Have a good one and lets go the wallabies...
Cheers,
Liam

New recruit, new boat
Submitted by Choongy on Thu, 2009-08-27 22:02G'day All
First time, so be gentle.
With an expanded family, the wife has ordered me to get a bigger boat with a bit more shelter than my 4.3m Clark. She reckoned centre consoles don't have enough protection, and I won't own a boat you can't walk around, so centre cab it is. Large enough to get 4 of us on board, not too big for tossing lures up creeks, and launching one up off the beach, so settled on a 5.5m. Looked for a couple of months for something suitable in second hand without success, so getting one custom built. The sheets are being cut today, and construction commences next week. Ordering a 115 for the back end tomorrow, having picked a Merc 4 stroke based solely on the fact they are running a special at the moment. So, my questions are:
1. What things have you seen in a boat/put in your own boat that has made you think, "Bugger me, that's tops, no boat should be without one".
2. The opposite. What irritating things have you found that could be avoided with a bit more thought during construction.
Engine arguments have been done to death, but anybody who feels passionate enough has about 12hrs to have a crack at steering me elsewhere.
Any input appreciated. If there is any interest, I can post up a few shots as she comes together.
Cheers
Choongy

possibly strange question but none the less :P
Submitted by couldntcatchacold on Thu, 2009-08-27 19:22Well i want to catch a stingray, I mostly fish for the fun and land based fishing around here doesnt really offer much that will give me a good work out (without spending countless hours searching for that elusive mulloway) i dont know if anyone will be able to help me here but just wondering what rig, bait, tides and location will help me find some sting rays.
Or even better some help with landbased sharkfishing :)

squid frenzy
Submitted by piston broke on Thu, 2009-08-27 19:15Was anchored herring fishing with a mate yesterday and flicked out a squid jig, hooking up immediately. About 10m from the boat i saw it was flanked by 2 others, one of which was attacking the hooked squid. My mate was soon in on the action hooking one of them and i unhooked and recast quick smart. In 10 minutes we caught 7 good squid. Bloody good fun. Anyone else had that happen?

Japanese fisherman workout?
Submitted by HuggyB on Tue, 2009-08-25 17:57I was told (rightly or wrongly) that many Japanese fisherman have a set workout routine they do before they go on a jiggin or popping fishing trip overseas so they are fit enough to cast all day and maximise their fishing time while at the destination.
Does anybody know roughly what this workout consists of doing? Have a copy of the routine? Just curious to see what they do in regards to being "fit for fishing".

10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish
Submitted by Alan James on Mon, 2009-08-24 18:48I've heard this statement a number of times on this and other forums. Sounds quite general but if it's true what's it based on?
Reducing our fish take may be as simple as reducing 5% of the fishing pool. LOL.

Weekend camping mission
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Sun, 2009-08-23 20:57Went for a mission down to Waroorra for the weekend on a fishing, relaxation, pissup weekend. We ended up with a good combination of all 3 and some fun memories. Unfortunately I forgot my camera when we went out on the boat and missed some good snaps of the rankin and spanglies we got, spewn! We only managed to get out the back of the reef and to waters outside the sanctuary zone for about 2 hours as the tide was dropping and the passage was sketchy with the swell. It was just enough time to find some good ground and have a bit of fun with plastics in shallowish water.
Anyway, here are a few of the other pics from the weekend, most notable were the squid, spango bustoffs and a 5-6ft bull shark off the beach. We weren't really trying too hard with the fishing with only one line out and the old can on the spool as a dinner bell, lol.
Cheers,
Adam
