Whats the best time of year to go up North?
Submitted by Simo_ on Sun, 2006-12-10 12:30Im thinking about taking some time off next year to go fishing up north. Probably will go to Kalbarri, Carnarvon, Exmouth, Broome and places inbetween.
I was wondering what is the best time of the year to go up that way? A few weeks ago I spent 5 days in Kalbarri and it was really windy and I didnt really catch much.
Any help??

They're crayfishing - I'm dropping a line
Submitted by Jamman on Fri, 2006-12-08 20:10Guys...going with a mate on his boat tomorrow. He's got SCUBA gear so he's going to be crayfishing (looping). I am hoping to flick something out and try my luck.
Any suggestions on what I should go for? I believe we'll be about 1km off Cottesloe in about 10-14m of water (I hope this is right).
Will be in the water about 7am until 12pm.
Thanks.

Fishwrecked Mindarie Invititational - CANCELLED until SUNDAY 17th
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Fri, 2006-12-08 15:09The Fishwrecked Mindarie Invititational on Saturday 9th has been CANCELLED until SUNDAY 17th DECEMBER due to bad forecasted weather conditions tomorrow.
For the safety of everyone involved I don't think that the Invititational should go ahead tomorrow. Mills charter boats returned early today from out there due to bad conditions and I think tomorrow is likely to be worse.
Cheers,
Adam

What's your 'to-catch' list?
Submitted by jay_burgess on Mon, 2006-12-04 13:34You hear it all the time on forums, people comment on other peoples fish with something along the lines of, that's still on my to-catch list (thanks Adam for giving me the idea for this topic)... well here's your chance, what is your 'to-catch' list. List all the species that you would really like to catch and how you're going to go about achieving your goal and when you expect to achieve it.
Here is my list.
Samsonfish - hopefully when I'm in Perth in January '07.
Black Jewfish - Hopefully spend some time up at balla balla this barra season, is a reliable spot for Black Jews.
Legal Red Emperor - I've caught plenty of juveniles off Dampier but I want to catch a legal one, hopefully head out wide a bit more next year for a good chance.
Sailfish - Hopefully targetting them exclusively during next years season off Dampier will give me a good chance.
Wahoo - Would love to catch one of these, never really target them but always a chance when chasing sailfish.
I think all of these are achiveable within the next 12 months. If I remember, I'll dig up this topic some time toward the end of next year and comment on how I've done.

Keeping yor rigs tidy
Submitted by fishyink on Sat, 2006-12-02 15:49Here is a lil tip if u wanna make up a heap of rigs before you go out is to make the rigs up except for the sinker and rap them around a pool noodle (cut the noodle into a quarter) keeps them neat and tidy and ready for when they are needed i cut my noodle so its just long enough to fit in me bag, noodles cost bout $2 from the bargain shop and red dot.

Clening your rod and reel how do u do it ?
Submitted by fishyink on Sat, 2006-12-02 15:24Me i personally use a inox soaked rag and wipe my whole reel and rod over each eye and spray a bit of inox were i think needed, inox is good for your rod and reel, gives it a protective coating and gets rid of all the saltwater. Also doesnt scare away the fish or wreck your line.

Getting smooth drag on abu baitcasters
Submitted by fishyink on Sat, 2006-12-02 15:16Abu reels dont have that flash of a drag after a bit of use it starts to go jumpy this is generally cos of water or oil getting into your drag washers, so what i do is pull apart my abu and wash it all in white spirits and dry it to get rid of all the oil, then get some graphite powder and rub it in to all my drag washers, toothbrush helps. Put back together the drag and oil only the parts that need oil and put just enough to lube it, the less oil the better i say, more oil is likely going to endup in your drag. Use a thin oil. Put back together your reel and slowy work your drag pulling line off then tightining it a little and then pull more line off, this will smooth the graphite out in your drag. Now u should have a pretty smooth drag.
Or u can just go buy a better drag, i believe the new abu's like the 6600 instead of the 6500 have a new drag in them, I gotta go check that out soon.

new to fishing
Submitted by ham on Fri, 2006-12-01 22:23hey guys
I recently discovered fishing is the best after catching a few fish off a reef at prevelly beach with hand reels hehe, so now I want to pull out dads rods and get into fishing a bit more. I just don't know where to go, what to catch or how to catch them. If anybody would be kind enough to suggest some places around perth ( I live in belmont ) and be precised, I don't know much about the rivers etc I don't mind going to freo, but once again don't know where to fish up there. I don't know what kind of fish to expect to get in different areas and what kind of tackle I need...sorry for floodin ya's with questions but I'm excited to get into fishing.
