A few fishies since my last post
Submitted by beau on Thu, 2017-07-06 19:34With the weather cooling down the inshore fishing is definitely starting to heat up. All the following fish are from five fathom and closer in. Here are a few pics since my last post..
I jumped on with Shikari a little while back, great to get out on a charter with only a small crew and learn from the Snapper Whisperer himself. It was a funny old morning with the 2 guys up the front bagging out relatively quick and Al and myself down the back pulling donuts, everyone had a good chuckle about it all.
Webby had 2 on the deck before the sun was even up.
Another day where I got out-fished on my own tub! Marko(hoookt) with a few kings and another donut for myself.
Dad is a bit of a stinky baito and ever since I told him the story of how good live and butterflied wrasse went on the dhuies on a trip north once its all he wants to have on the end of his line. He had a great hookup on ffb recently and my brother and I convinced him there was a dhu on the other end (we both knew what it really was.) Hows the disgusting bend in that Ugly Stick. We never let him borrow any of our rods!
On the board with this chunky sambo pulled out of gnarly ground in 4m of water, one of the best fights ive had for sure.
Seems to be an almost resident school of tuna hanging on the back edge of the ffb, ive seen a few splashes and birds hanging in the same area for a month or so now. This one I hooked casting a 14g Yakamito micro jig, was an awesome fight on 6lb and 1000 size reel.
Plenty of nice squid in the sound at the moment, Joel with a 28cm hood specimen. This colour Yamshita is absolutely slaying at the moment.
Had an anchor and burley sesh nice and close in on Monday morning, it looked really promising with nice murky water after the weekends big blow. Only took 15mins after anchoring for my plastic to get woofed down in the burley trail and it was mayhem for the next 3 hours with rods going off every few minutes, pinkies were right up the back of the boat sitting just off a burley pot halfway to the bottom, the plastics getting smashed with the rod just sitting in the holder. The skippy soon moved in and the sambos were not far behind them. We lost way more fish than we saw but with us just out on a catch and release session we didnt even care! Belter of a morning.
Hope you enjoyed the pics fellas.
Beau.

My first gummy such an awsome fish!
Submitted by 458italia on Wed, 2017-06-28 20:27first gummy shark, very happy with it, not huge but put up a good fight, been a dream fish for me for my entire fishing life, very prowed of it... this time how's about you people show some curtesy, and achnoledge just because I'm not a pro, and likely younger than most of u thus not nesseceraly having as much experience, dosent mean I'm lying... this fish was 120cm and just under 6kgs, was actually the 3rd one we hooked within 15 mins first one was a monster but pulled the hooks boat side as I went to grab its tail! :\ but that just makes me even more keen to chase em! They fight insane for there size as well!...remember, don't assume things, then complain when I argume my case... TBH didn't even want to post this, me brothers big salmon wasn't good enough so why would this be right... Just want to see what the genuine people think and if I can offer any tips for those also chasing a gummy. Cheers guys tight lines...../!

Carnarfin - Delayed Post
Submitted by Bing on Wed, 2017-06-21 13:18Bit of a delayed post due to having work when I returned home but finally found some time to upload some pics. Managed to get away for a week's fishing leading up to the Western Australia Day public holiday. The weather co-operated and we managed to get onto some decent fish. The Rankin were very friendly this trip, we took care bringing fish up to assist with releasing them if we wished (a lot went back)
Managed to get my PB Red, weighing in at 10.5kg.

John Dory
Submitted by ranmar850 on Fri, 2017-06-09 12:06We were drifting out from the Kalbarri cliffs on Wednesday, very quiet, one barely-sized RE in the boat, when this drifted past. He was upside down, swimming, trying to go down, so I put him out of his misery. Someone had thrown him back, perhaps, not realising what they had, or he had come off half-way up and floated away? Who knows, but he was very nice baked in foil with lemon juice and butter that night.

Encounter
Submitted by nackers on Mon, 2017-06-05 15:46Hey all
with this week ends forecast being good decided to go for a snapper mission on sat .
launched around 10 am and chased some squid for fresh bait .
moved out after a few hours with a few for fresh bait to try some ground and see sound around to find somewhere to anchor and get set for the evening.
ended up on a spot Ive thought pinks would show up at and dropped the pick.
while my brother was out the front trying to get the anchor to hold I dropped in and got a pink straight on!
Next two drops for me was a baldie each drop and my. Ro was on a pinky, fair to say we had a hot bite on and would get better after dark.
but before dark bruce rocked up proceeded to eat a fiddler ray, menace a pinky , chew on my outboard and shut the spot down completely.
so decided to go out again yesterday arvo and see if the pinks were on .
bruce was nowhere to be seen , photos can tell the rest.
first white I have seen and around 4.5m long was a awesome creature.
Ps local snapper comp is on run by 2 oceans tackle in Busso check it out on there Facebook page.
cheers

Mackerel Islands 2017
Submitted by Spence on Sat, 2017-05-27 17:53About 2 weeks ago, we headed up to the Mackerel Islands. Had a few issues on the way up, one being one of three boats almost lost a wheel and lost a hub stud. But a quick replacement, and no issues for the rest of the trip.
Travel was 1 day to canarvon, then 1 day to the islands from Onslow. Upon arriving at Thevenard Island, we were met by some staff who helped us empty the boats.
Planning the 4 days we were there, the weather looked pretty Average and quietened our spirits a bit.
Day 1 consisted of us waiting until about 11am until the wind died from about 25kts to 15knts, which we headed out. With only half a day, we went straight for Goldband in the 110m marks. Quickly obtained close to our bag on Spanglies, Goldband, Red Emperors and a 21kg Malabar Cod, which spat out about 3 spanglies when it surfaced. The small whalers were reckless and when i pulled up a double header of them, they were followed up by an amazing sight of approx 100kg black marlin which swam next to us during our drift for a good minute or two. Jet black with a small blue fin on top. an amazing sight to see. We headed back in, and stopped on a few places in 60m and managed some amazing rankin between 5-7kg to top the bag on demersals. Then would you believe it, mackies jumping around the boat 20ft in the air. Dropped a lure and 10kg mackie in the boat quick smart before we were running low on light and headed back in.
Day 2, this day was a known write off with weather, but one of our boats decided to go adrift and break its mooring. (will detail this later).
Day 3, this was the day to be. Wind meant to die off about 10am to basically 5knts. We charged out deep to fill up on Goldband and Scarlets. First drop, would you believe it, biggest Rankin and Scarlet i've seen. Both around 7-8kg each. Double headers of goldband, all 3 rods buckled every drop for a good couple of hours.
From here, we headed in as our mates boat didn't have much in his esky. Stopped in 55m and WOW, the sounder lit up. Came up 10m full of fish. All 3 rods dropped down, all 3 rods buckled with fish on Steriods, all double headers. What came up off this spot was only BIG rankin, reds and big scarlets between 5-8kg, consistently. I don't think i've seen so many Rankin come off one spot. There were two patches within 50m of each other just loaded with big fish. Amazing (wish i had another day here). We gave it 30mins before we headed in with all full bags, as light was running out.
Day 4. This was a known write off, but we had a phone call from the water police at barrow island. The boat had amazingly washed ashore, in drivable condition. Hull needs a refurb, but otherwise looked great considering it was missing for 2 days. Mate was able to get a lift over to barrow and pick up his boat and drive it back to the islands. Lucky!
Amazing fishing, but unfortunately the weather held us out for most of the 4 days. If you decide to go here, take some serious insect repellant. THe Sand fly's are ferocious. We were destroyed. 2 weeks later we are still itching with welts.
Also the fuel prices are crazy at $2.30L.
Staff upon arriving were good, but the last 2 days, the second crew intelligence was non-existent, and less helpful. We were lucky on day 4 when refuelling, as on Day 3 the operator was a bright spark having a cigarette near the fuel tanks/pump. Day 4 when i was trying to fuel up, looked up and fuel spraying meters into the air and was only 1m behind the same dodo operator. (no ciggie luckily). Took me a few yells and pointing to indicate the issue to the bright spark. Fuel filter split its housing.
Didn't take many pics, as it was rush rush with few hours fishing we did have. But enjoy below!
Next Coral Bay in July! Hoping to get a good day to get out to the 300s for Rubys!

Yellow Tail Kingfish
Submitted by DTrain on Wed, 2017-05-24 09:25I had the day off work on Monday so took the boat up to Two Rocks for a fish.
One of the trailer tyres blew out as we got to the boat ramp so we spent about 30 mins changing the tyre. Rusty lug nuts are a pain in the ass.
The weather was looking a bit dodgy with some rain clouds rolling past so we stayed in close and tried bottom bashing inside the 3 mile reef but nothing was really biting.
After a while we changed tactics and went for a troll along the back of the three mile reef. After about an hour or so of trolling my rod went off with a big run. I had a good long battle and eventually managed to bring in this beast:
My mate also had a big run on one of his rods shortly afterwards however it was on his little rod and whatever it was managed to spool him.

lots of fish
Submitted by doubleheader_king on Tue, 2017-05-16 19:30Been a while since I last posted, been catching loads of stuff over the past few weeks. Been all over the place fishing, went up to wagoe to gas balloon mackies which was awesome despite us spending more time recovering cars than fishing !! Landed some nice mackies off the beach and boats, mate robbie landed a good mully of the beach too along with a heap of soapies. plenty of sharks around too which were a pain while gas ballooning, although still fun watching them hit our baits. Fished the metro area a fair amount too, for sharks, Mulloway, koi, carp, salmon and just about everything else that swims. Been fishing Dunsbroough on the school holidays, with countless red-hot salmon sessions from injinup to old dunsborough and when the weather allowed heading out wide for dhuies. Got a couple good ones over the holidays with the biggest going 93cm, and countless little dhus. Also been exploring the lakes and creeks around the area too having sick sessions on Redfin and light gear. Filmed with the IFISH crew too which was awesome fun, despite not being well whilst filming. Headed out with Legends Charters and smashed dhuies all day long, double hook ups on both articficials and bait !! Biggest dhuies going 80-90cm !! Was an awesome experience filming with the crew, the episode will be aired around July which should be wicked !! Got way too many photos so chose a couple favourites below !!
Cheers, Maxi.

EIAO Dog
Submitted by timvb on Fri, 2017-05-12 14:00The largest dog caught on my trip to EIAO in February caught by Alex Jordan.
Tough going on the dogs with only a handful landed between 5 anglers for the trip. Many fish were hooked though the majority were lost due to sharks, being bricked and the odd terminal tackle failiure. I have come to the conclusion that everything has to go right to land a big one.
