Quick arvo river fish
Submitted by barneyboy on Mon, 2013-03-18 19:20Been out for a couple of goes in the last week.
Caught a few breams up to 37cm ttt.
Caught my first mulloway ever and on lure!!Stoked. haha. A beast at exactly 50cm.
Have been getting wiped out regularly in the snags.
So much to say I upped the ante to 10lb braid, 12lb fluorocarbon leader over a 10-17lb spin stick and still getting smashed up.
I think the Leeuwin currents might have pushed some Mangrove Jacks into the local river. haha. Seems like that anyway!!
Off to get ready for the next sesh!!!

Todays trip, finally something to brag about!
Submitted by gibbs on Sun, 2013-03-17 19:36The alarm went off at 4am this morning and i was glad to hear it beeping its nut off, time to go fishing. Being a FIFO worker i usually hate this time of the morning but not today. I go and kick my brother Chris who slept on the couch, made a coffee, loaded up the boat and away we went.
Got to Woodie Point, boat in by 5am still pitch black. Turned the key on to kick the 50hp 2 stroke into action and surprisingly she burst into life first try. Slowly made our way out of the sound which was dead flat, lack of light meant our trip was slow but we where well ahead of time and i couldnt help but think that everything had gone according to plan so far. My brother was chirping his head off as usual, apparently he was as confident as i was that a nice dhui or baldy was gonna land on the deck.
Got to a likely spot i had marked on a chart that iv been pouring over lately, baited up a mullie and dropped it to the sea floor and watched my brother do the same thing. Within minutes my rod buckelled over, reel screaming, me delighted! Getting control of the fish my brother starts with the predictions "Dhui bet ya its F'n big Dhui", what ever it was its gonna be pretty big i tell him. After about 10 minutes, a few lazy slow runs back down to decent depth we see the silver of my first ever Samson fish. Its a funny feeling of slight dissappointment and happiness, hoping for my first dhui or baldy, instead i get my first Sambo. Didnt take me long to be swinging high fives and smiling from ear to ear after catching my first ever Sambo.
Things got quite for about an hour before we moved about 500m to a marked lump and again the first drop was hit by a massive run. This fight was a little different, the fish although smaller went on some extremely powerful runs, my brother shouting out "there's bloody smoke come out ya reel, it gonna catch fire" haha. After a few explosive runs the fish came to the surface easily, quick photo with sambo number 2 and back it went to fight another day.
A few more drift over the lump resulted in nothing so i made the call to go sit on the FFB for a couple of hours before heading home. The FFB was the calmest iv ever seen it and we decided to sit right on the shallow part of the reef which resulted in a big variety of fish landed, big skippy, the usual wrasse, a wierd gold snook looking thing (gold with a couple of horizontal bars on it's back and a nasty set of chompers), 2x BA's first was 38cm which i kept and the second was smaller but didnt release well, even tried the release weight but a few seconds after retrieving the weight the fish came barrelling back to the surface so i kept him. Back at the ramp by 12:30 very happy, I'm still without a Dhui or Baldy but i can tick the Sambo of the list and Damn they are fun to catch.

3mile monsters
Submitted by THERESONLYONEBIGRED on Wed, 2013-03-13 16:17after half hour of being circled by this monster, well concidering she was bigger than the 3.5m tinnie we were on,out at the 3mile off hillaries we decided she might be hungry for a fresh tuna we caught moments before.
we hooked up and lifted anchor and within half our she towed us 3.8miles out to sea on 130lbs tuffline with 15kgdrag set. good bit of fun,and eventually snapped off when the drag was set up2 22kg. good day on the blue tho thanks to capitan damo.

Yesterdays fish and few other trips out
Submitted by flexn on Mon, 2013-03-11 11:35After a big saturday night, woke up hung over and lacked motivation to do anything. But having cray pots that needed to be pulled there was no choice. so loaded up my boat and headed out sunday morning (yesterday) and hit the water at around 10:30 am (very late). We went to a previous spot that had produced very well a couple of weeks before, but was holding no fish we could see on the sounder. We sounded around and decided to go pull the pots.
When the pots were dropped the week before, the boat I was on had the sounder fail half way out. So they were dropped completely blind and we didn't expect to catch anything. So we pulled the first two to find nothing. We then sounded around for a bit and found a nice looking lump. After dropping the pot right on it, The sounder lit up. I couldnt help myself and dropped a jig over the side while the pot was still sinking. After about 20 seconds I hooked on to a size dhu. We fished the lump for a while longer and ended up with another dhu, a big baldy, a swallowtail nannygai and some undersize dhuis, snapper and blackarse that released well.
After having a decent fish we pulled the other 2 pots. Ended with 3 male keepers and 8 females that were thrown back. We saw plenty of bait fish schooling in the sound, had a bit of a troll but no hits.
I'm still fairly new to jigging but am slowly converting. My friends were using bait.
This was the week before going out on a mates boat, lost some decent fish that day but managed a size dhui
Then pulled these a couple of weeks ago of a nice lump on my boat with cruggs1
Then this pic of crabs in the swan on friday night. Ended up with 16

Anothe day another fishing adventure
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-03-10 22:50Went to a beach to chase some big salmon and tailor and couldn't land a single one so after loosing some lures to big fish we set up the shark rods and slide baited some big baits into a gutter. Took less than 20 mins for the first run with a nice nurse on the sand 30 mins later, out go some more bait and about 30 mind later off goes one rod then another and we had a double hookup of monster sharks. First shark we got to the shore break before breaking the leader. My little brother was having a much harder time with his and eventually landing a monster nurse himself!!

Jigging Barra POC style
Submitted by damo6230 on Sat, 2013-03-09 18:24People here in livebait Barra land look at us sideways when we tell them we catch Barra on jigs.
While not the jigs you guys are using for sambo's / demersals, we still jig with results
May not be rampaging samobo's or Dhuies in the blue but nonetheless we are successful.
Choice lure is the FLT trans am, no substitute!!
We pull up on the wood, hit I-pilot and drop down the trans am and get jiggy.
Nicks first cast today was smacked by a 60 Jack, with my second I was bricked by a 95plus Barra.
Not long after Nick gets smashed and after some fancy work on the Kota a 90 Mulla joins us in the Noble
Trans am in action
Only 3m of water but man do they pull
Moved onto another snag and hit I-pilot just downstream of the wood.
Trans am Barra land POC style
You can see the wood in the background
Nicks mate is making some lures so we are happy to try them out. No problem catching Barra
Those Twin Rivers work a treat POC :)
Getting bricked means I'm two trans am less........

Big Thanks for Vinesh87
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Sat, 2013-03-09 12:42And Ricey for a great day out last sunday. We went out from Woodmans pt to the Fads but were unable to catch any dollies on a mix of live/dead baits, lures, soft plastics etc. We managed to see plenty of jumping macs and tuna but struggled for hookups, until Ricey got smoked by something while trolling a rapala deep diver. On the way back in we stopped for a bottom bash in the 45s and this was the result.

Tuesdays Tailor sesh
Submitted by spook on Thu, 2013-02-28 11:59Went for a fish Tuesday, managed 2 tailor, one each for my mate and I, 58 & 55cm. Bulk hookups but dropped a lot of fish in the air, they were leaping all over the place. My mate was using bait and had one hit so hard it busted him off. Really enjoying these big tailor hanging around through summer. The herring are a bit of a pest in-between the tailor showing up. I got fish on my Duo pressbait and Shimano ocea pencil, other fish on the floated mulie

Good day out in Esperance
Submitted by woody on Mon, 2013-02-25 14:19Had a beaut day out yesterday as a deckie on a mate Kingys Noosa Cat. We left his place at around 0430 and after a bit of a drive, beach launched and headed east 8 miles, into a solid 2M swell and slight breeze. First mark was in 50m and looked promising with a big school on the sounder but we only managed several small nannies which all released well. We dont tend to keep any under 45cm as its just not worth it, much more meat on the larger ones. But I did nail a beaut big cuttlefish followed up with a nice pinky, which was what we really were after!
Then we made the call to check out another mark a little further on in 60m....good move..and we started catching big nannies 55-60cm and we were stoked!! Triple hookups and Double headers were common and as soon as they started they just went off the bite and were into sambos and big BA. By then the swell and wind had dropped and we struggling to get a drift...pretty rare for Esperance!!
Back to the first spot on the way in to see if we could nail another pink...and first drop we had a double hookup both called for pinks....resulting in a big tangle and Kingy somehow loosing his whole rig when his coastlock opened up....copped some shit over that one!
All in all a bloody great day and I've got us another Espy FW member in Kingy after he reads this!!
I did have a kill shot for you guys but it may upset too many people.....lets just say we didnt even bag out but our families will have fish for a while.
Cheers Woody and Kingy
