Yesterday was Awesome!!!!! Underwater Shots
Submitted by Pete D on Wed, 2008-12-24 14:00Well, you’ve seen the surface pics and now here are the underwater shots.
Not fantastic - vis not the best, film camera jammed etc etc...time for a new camera! But, the shots do display how tight the pinkies swim together and they compliment Ryans above water shots.
Approaching the school;
Very close;
Cheers Pete

Yesterday was Awesome!!!!!
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 2008-12-22 13:13Yesterday was absolutely awesome. Pete D, Scott (Soupster) and myself went for a cray dive with a twist. We approached the back edge of Five Fathom Bank with a bit bigger swell for our liking so we came back to the inside of it and tried a few new spots to dive. We've been doing well at our normal spots of late but we've been wanting to rack up a few new spots also. We ended up with our bag limit of crays on the first dive with mainly reds to make up the catch as the whites certainly have bolted by the looks. The second dive wasnt so nice as the new recon ground was void and the water very wishy washy!
So, with the 2 dives done we had to be back early for a BBQ get together on the Swan so we thought we'd have a quick flick for pink snapper as our dive spots were close to a pinky lump that Pete & myself have fished before. Pete was motoring up to the co-ord and as we got closer we thought "whats that on the surface" with a "bloody hell, thats a big school of pinkys" being the second words
WOW, i've seen this before but never had the opportunity to swim with them. As we approached i fired off a shit load of pics (i was giving a Japanesse tourist a run i reckon) and then after that Pete & myself went in to swim with them. Scotty was at the helm (Scotty also had his turn to swim with them next) with Pete shooting a few pics with his underwater camera when we were really close to them (snorkeling) which hopefully will turn out. Pete & myself got really close like 1m away and had this spawning group of pinkys doing their thing right in front of us. This highlighted just how important these fish are and why we need a ban also.
There were 2 dolphins also that were swimming around them and would periodocally "whack" one with its nose and give the fish a hard time. When they're in this mode they dont often take baits and after a quick try Pete got one fish and we then took off.
Eyeballing these magnificent fish doing their thing in the wild and being able to swim with them was truely awesome and my highlight for 2008 for sure
Pete's Pinky, it was a keeper!

Trip to wedge
Submitted by Dean on Tue, 2008-12-16 19:02So we packed the car at 4.30pm on friday arvo with the fridges, clothes, rods, reels and the kayak we were ready to go for the weekend. We set off on the 2-3 hour trip, first up to lancelin and then by beach and track up to wedge and the shack we were staying in, once we got there we opted to stay in the night and drink with the boys as the weather was not the best and would make fishing hard, we prepared for and early start in the morning.
Out of bed at 6am, sherbs and I went down to the beach in front of the shack, and after about 30 mins of pulling lines checking bait and catching weed we decided to move as the area was barren. We headed for south rock just 5 minutes south of wedge Island, and this area contains reef and some gutters which we thought would hold some fish.
While arriving at the rok the tide was very low and made it easy to walk out onto the reef, it is a big platform and extends for about 100m, with channels and bommies to cast into. I walked out a bit further than sherbie and we started fishing. I starting catching the odd herring and chopper tailor, but the fish were thin as the sun was now well into the sky and the fish wern't biting. Steve moved up into the same area and managed a couple of herring and tailor and a unusual reef fish.
We headed back to the shack for breakfast and then I went out again on the kayak this time, behind the island fishing fishing in a channel between 2 reefs. I set up anchor and only after a couple of annoying wrasse I hooked up big time almost falling out of the kayak I managed to straighten the kayak and the fish continued to pull me around. After a couple of minutes Up came a ray and I quickly cut the line and buggered off before I got another one.
On the way back I trolled some mulies and had a couple of hook ups but the fish spat the hooks. Back onto land at 1.30, then had a little tour of wedge with andrew (sherbs son) Up some dunes and along the beach. Got back to the shack and had some lunch and our next plan was to try south rock again for an arvo fish. We got down there at 4.30pm and set up, the conditions weren't ideal as there was a strong south wester and the beach was dropped off about 60m out so we had to wade out and then cast to get past the breakers. Andrew one of the guys staying at the shark with us managed to get 5 nice sized herring, I had one monster run on my beach combo, almost down to the backing and PING snapped off... Called it for a stingray. We finished fishing at 6pm and headed back to the shack for dinner, as the conditions were just too hard to fish from, we planned to get up early morning on sunday to have a crack at some tailor when the weather was a little nicer, that night we sat out the back and continued drinking.
Up at 4.30 am, sherbs and I headed down to South rock in the cruiser, and Once again it was low tide, however We decided to try a different area which looked very promising. First cast Bang I was on and Pulled in a small ort jackson shark about 50cm long, and sherbs caught a nice sized herring. It was a few more casts for me before I pulled in my last tailor for the trip, but it was a nice sized one. Sherbs now began to put on a fishing clinic hooking up more often than not and each one producing either a chopper tailor or a herring or a hooter skippy. Others soon noticed we were in a hot spot and after a while he had a little crowd fishing with us.
For this short little morning session we caught a heap of fish, and sherbs mentioned it was the best he had had in a long while. We headed back to the shack and had some more fun on the kayaks and surf skiis and then we were packed up and ready to leave the shack by 11.30am. We all followed dougie back to lancelin along the beack and tracks while a few in convoy were bogged we were fine in andrews land cruiser which chopped up the beach. We got into lancelin and had some food at the local bakery, where we said our goodbyes to the boys and headed back home.
Thanks the Sherbs and Andrew for a great trip, we had plenty of fun and a few fish along the way.
Sherbs will put some pics up soon.
Cheers
Dean

Two Rocks Beach Fishing
Submitted by Heinz on Mon, 2008-12-15 11:03Hi Guys,
Havent been on here for a while, but got my hands on a hilux surf and am now mobile
Me n some mates went for a fish at some of the beaches and reefs north of Two Rocks and managed to land 2 dozen big sized herring and some monster garfish, but no tailor. I keep hearing reports of tailor mulloway etc. getting landed from these beaches but have always had no luck. Was wondering if anyone has ventured up that way lately and hooked up onto something big???

My 1st 12kg
Submitted by synthos on Mon, 2008-12-15 08:24Where is fisheries when you want to be inspected? lazy buggers !
OK long story longer :) I came in after being out on a miserable day 10-15k winds but they dropped down to about 5-10k after 10ish on 30 Nov and wind direction changed so here am I drifting over nice ground I notice where there is one lump there is more and the southerly was pushing me over all that but not much luck some nice black arse still a nice feed once the wind changed to SW life got interesting I got a bit no wait a pull and a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ on my 7kg drag setting I wound and used the rod only for my arm to get dam tired man this was work I was smart though and tried to put the rod in the metal bar I have to allow my hand to take the pressure off as my left arm was killing me after 5 minutes yup I think I am a pussy :( Brilliant as my idea was not I kicked it into free spool arghh wommmmmmmmm line ran off once I placed pressure on it again sure enough twanggggggggggggg
Up comes the swivel, so here I go a few more drifts and woha same run, this time I bite down and work the rod letting teh fish pull on the 7kg and if line went out bugger it let it, and wind at every opportunity after a painstaking 2 hours (real time 5-10 minutes) up comes a massive 90cm duhfish ! it was knackered just floated and let me net it I had to use my kill tank what should the ratio ice to water be again ? plopped it in it barely fit oh what a feeling my arm was dead... I used the last few remaining baits up and then said its a good day to head in early....
Gloated to the missus on the phone and have not felt like fishing for 2 weeks now but the bug is returning as I know there is another duh out there with my sinker and hooks in his mouth
I even went all the way to rotto with out a rod on the boat to appease the god of fishing vouchers :)

FAD motivation
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Fri, 2008-12-12 10:02I was up north recently (just into the NT) and we found a floating palm tree root in the middle of nowhere. It was loaded with dollies, all around 3kg and they were hitting anything- divers, poppers, stick baits and plastics. In the end I took the hooks off my stick bait and drove them crazy casting that around. There were a few bigger males sitting out the back (6-7kg each) but getting a lure with hooks in it to them was impossible as the smaller ones were onto it in a flash. I jumped over and took a few underwater pics. If you look closely in the palm tree photo you can see the dollies cruising around in the background. There were also a few nice triple tail under there, it’s amazing how much life relies on this type of structure.

Exmouth Trip
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Wed, 2008-12-03 15:28Well I’ve finally had time to sit down and sort out a few of my Exmouth trip photos so here they are. The weather was pretty average (early November), only got the boat out twice in 8 days but still got a few fish to make the drive worthwhile. My mate and his Dad both got their first mackies, only up to about 12kg but they were stoked. We had a marlin free jumping in the 30's just off Tanta's but couldn't tempt any on the lures. Hit the gulf on the last arvo during the glass off for some skurfing to burn up the last of the fuel- looking back we should've headed out wider that day chasing sails. Hardly did any shore bashing either, more reason to go back soon.
Anyway here's the pics:

Good Karma out there
Submitted by roberta on Sat, 2008-11-22 06:34Went down the Club about 7.30pm last night, beautiful night, take the dog for a snuffle. Anyway about 7.50pm a club member (CM) came in (god those honda 4stroke are silent). Got his boat ready to retrieve and had a yak fishing etc, went to his car Bob and I sitting there watching the sunset, next minute CM came back and Bob said you need a jumb start mate, no said the CM I've going out to help a young bloke get his boat. The young bloke had swam from Woodie Point, little bay between point and club house, asked the CM if he would help. Bob yelled out do you want any help CM said no. We decided to stay just in case anything went wrong. So 8.50pm came and CM towed the young bloke in, put him on the public ramp and then come back to the club. Young bloke offered money etc but CM said don't need the money, just hope that if its me that somebody will help me.
So there are good people out there fellas, thought I'd share it with you all, good stuff, we hear so much about the nasty side of boat people, this made my day. CM caught some nice skippy for his effect, said it was magic out there.

Game boat section winner !!!!!
Submitted by STAAL LOVER on Fri, 2008-11-07 19:57When I first got my boat the nephew and I decided to go down to the Mandurah fishing comp for a go !! This would have been the 2007 comp I think. We arrived the night before and dropped the boat in and got some very funny looks as we tied up to the wharf (being a cheap ol rough looking boat with a rough looking skipper and a bloody hippy). But as we did not give a rats ass what they thought off to tea in the club house we went !! I slept on the boat and Shaun set his swag up on the landing (more funny looks).
In the morning up for the breaky and set the boat up and off to the start line !!! What a buzz. More boats than you can poke a stick at and all wanting the front possie. The start is something to see(from the back). By the time they all get going the wake/seas and swell make for the biggest washing machine you would ever see. After letting them all go for a minute or two off we putter.
Not fished in Mandurah all bar twice before we thought we would go in the direction that most boats had taken. Out to the 30's and fished all day with very little to show for it. To say we were disappointed would be an extreme understatement !!!!!! But we wanted to get back for the weigh in so off we toddled.
We got half way back a few birds were diving on a school of bait fish. We each threw a lure out the back and skirted the school. Within the first minute I was on and then Shaun. We got the tuna in the boat and was happy just to have something to eat atleast. On the way in we were joking that the fish Shaun had caught was the winner and what we would do with the prize money(there were game boats heading out that would top the magic mil I recon)!!!
At the weigh in the tuna pulled the scales down at ALMOST 3kg and was hanging there for quite some time!! We were watching the bags empty out of the fridge and the joking got less and less!! Well blow me down Shaun(and my boat) had won the game fish section. Some of the BOYS that had been looking at us the night before and were giving a chuckle here and there ATE SOME HUMMBLE PIE!!!!!
$1000 for a days fun on the water !!!! The bragging rights !!!!! The red faces !!!!! Just goes to show you don't need a multi 00000 boat to be in da money at the comps !!!!!
PS: Only just found these pictures and video on my phone and downloaded them

fishing last weekend
Submitted by Paul G on Sat, 2008-11-01 15:45Well it’s a little late but I’ve been in Northam for the week working. God it’s good to be home. Last weekend headed out from Two Rocks with young Jody on board .The day was slow to begin with but things picked up towards to afternoon, a big assortment of fish were landed most of which were released. All up 26 six fish were landed from Dhuies,Sombos, Baldchin ,Sargent Baker, Gernard, Blackass, Foxfish, Bluespot Flathead, also a couple of large fish were lost Jesse struggled with what we guess was a large Dhuie for thirteen minutes on his nine kg gear, only to have the line brake for no reason, just as the fish was in sight .Kept a couple of Dhuies and a few blackass for dinner ,Jody flathead also made the dinner plate

Exmouth in October!
Submitted by Percula on Sat, 2008-10-25 19:39Hey guys!
Here is some pictures from my recent trip to exmouth.
Was my second trip but a lot of firsts, as last year the weather was insane.
This year wasn't too bad, got out in the boat each day inside the reef mostly, but got out behind the reef a couple of times and and in the gulf for a day. Still though the wind was southerly most days, and really strong which was uncomfortable, but we still managed!
In the gulf we trolled around and caught a few spotted mackerel, and saw so so many whales!
Inside the reef we just used poppers and lures, and caught a variety of great fish!
As my photos show, I caught my first GT, watch this thing come from 30-40m away and smash my popper, was amazing! Was thinking wow now this is exmouth!! Put up a great fight and I was stoked!
Also caught my first gold spot trevally!
Another highlight of the trip was watching a spanish mackerel chase down my popper and have 3 goes at it, unfortunately not hooking up! Was amazing to watch though!
But the main type of fish caught was the hard fighting spangled emperor!! We caught many of these in shallow water and lost a few as well (including our poppers!). Such hard fighting fish in shallow water and to see them come up to grab a popper was something you don't forget in a hurry!
Other types of fish we caught were cobia and heaps of charlie courts!
All in all was a good trip, and can't wait for the next trip!

Squid
Submitted by feral1975 on Thu, 2008-10-23 21:03Took matt ( hlok)out yesterday for a few hours to bang a few squid and managed 7 good sized ones and a cuttlefish , keeps the mrs happy with calamari and the heads are in the freezer getting ready to have a 14/0 threaded through them and sent down to the fish gods .We tried for some snapper on the outside but as we came in we saw two boats with flashing blue lights headed out towards where we were fishing , got back into the marina at woodies and another boat pulled up and asked us , " didn't You see the boat out there sinking " . So it proves at night that flares are your friend , stayed around till they brought the boat in and ended up being someone i knew. On asking him why he didn't let a flare go and alert us , he replied " Didn't think it was serious till the water started to come over the motor ", Once on the trailer you could see the split straight up the keel of the boat ( Savage ) . And he didn't have insurance so yep - SPEECHLESS
