Getting in on the new rules early
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2022-08-19 19:49Had a 3 hour window today between the gym and school pickup so smashed out to my honey hole and it was firing. I was working 2 rods in 23m and couldn't keep up bagging out in one long drift with some absolute belters. Shot to a spot for a sneaky couple of dhu drops but no cigar.

Exmouth 2022
Submitted by scottland on Wed, 2022-08-17 19:42Recently spent a week up in exmouth jumped on the new charter in town called exmouth fishing adventures awesome time with the lads. Spent a couple days lb fishing but man it's tough
Day 1 consisted of macky trolling in the morning a bit of reef fishing then trolling for a marlin on the way to some deep dropping. Hooked up a big black on the way out that the sister fought for a while but dropped hooks. The deep dropping was unreal 3 rubies and 2 20 odd kilo 8 bar cod.
Day 2 was much windier so stayed inshore for the first half of the day trolling up 3 Mack's and getting a nice mixed bag on the reef. Unfortuantly the 10kg demersal fillet limit was nearing so decided to troll for a marling again. Again didn't take long before it was my turn at my first marlin. Got a smaller more manageable black but spat hooks just as we were getting the wind on onto the reel. In summary was an awesome 2 Days on the boat and these boys know what they are doing
Here's some of the pics

Dhu trips from last 6 months
Submitted by Spence on Sun, 2022-07-17 21:29Long time member, and long time (3 years+) between trolling or posting on here.....
I've been dhu fishing off Rockingham and Mandurah only a handful of times over the last 6 months, but the dhus have been very consistent in size and numbers. Can't seem to miss! Different spots and areas, All double figured weights. Even the missus has had a ball on a few large specimens.
There's been a heap more large sizes prior to these last 6 months, but don't want photo clog the page up....
Every fish caught on baited jigs (some not even baited, is that jigging? Lol), particularly the vexed bottom meats. They work exceptionally on the silver dollar. Great fun on 30lb gear! I personally haven't used anything else targeting them the last 3 years.
I will be giving the ole dhu fishing a rest for a while, and have some fun manual jigging for deeper critters in 300-500m.

Shark Bay Report
Submitted by beau on Tue, 2022-07-12 14:52Thought I'd share some photos of a recent trip out of Denham. With a real emphasis on light tackle sportsfishing, especially in the shallows, we did dedicate one day to just putting 3 trout in the esky. Younger brother ended up with a pigeon pair of 80cm trout, which was probably the highlight of the trip. Notable mention to Ben who landed an absolute cracker longtail in just 1m of water.

Karratha Mud Crabs - Good Story
Submitted by Piggy on Fri, 2022-07-01 12:43Thought Id give some feedback.......
So I posted on here a week or so ago asking Karratha locals for info on where to get mud crabs in Karratha as I was up there for 3 days for work and had an afternoon free. Thanks heaps to Dodgey (Jon) on here he responded that I could borrow his tinny and point me in the right direction on where to go. Blown away by the generosity I grabbed his number and gave him a buzz when I was up there. Lent me his boat, nets and gave me the direction / info on where to go. Headed around his house to pick up his boat as he wasnt in town and had a yarn to his young bloke who obviously loves fishing too. Hooked up the boat, did exactly what he said and scored ourselves 7 Mud crab in a few hours.
Thought id post this story on here as this is exactly what this forum is about. I have been a member for almost 10 years and constantly come here for info, guidence and a good read rather than going on SookBook. This is what this forum is about, not bickering and having a go at people because your opinion doesnt coincide with theirs.... Help fisho's out, pay it forward. I know I will be doing exactly that!!
Once again thanks heaps Jon. Really appreciate it
Cheers

Offshore Pinks
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sat, 2022-06-25 18:30Took my oldest and his mate and his Dad out today. We punched out of Mindarie at 7am to 42m and found a nice showing on some ground I have marked. First drift we hooked two nice pinks and a Blackarse and second drift my boy got to christen his NS Explorer in style.
I got railed on the next drift by a suspected monster pink. Later found out Dad had loosened the drag on my rod after the last fish and I had to start thumbing the spool.. something about not compressing the drag in storage he reckons....
We decided to head out further in search of a dhu but only managed undersized models proving an unsuccessful change in tactic for another 5hrs until we called it quit.

Quick Abrolhos Trip
Submitted by Piggy on Mon, 2022-05-23 12:59With the weather looking amazing decided on a quick 2 night trip to Abrolhos. Unfortunately this time we couldnt use the jetty we normally stay at so we had to camp on the boat. I way prefer to camp on the jetty, so much better being able to get off the the boat after being on it all day.
Anyway first day we headed over, did a bit of trolling and bottom bouncing along the way. Was pretty slow with only 1 tuna landed. Headed to the back of the island where we have done well spearing on a few bombies before. Was actually pretty quiet, only landing 1 jumbo cray and a couple of trout and baldies. Headed from the back of the island to the moorings and on the way happened to hit a rock that wasnt on the map. Bent the shit out of the prop and broke off hal of the skeg. I am usually so careful looking out, following the map, having spotters up the front. We have done this trip 6 or 7 times in the same area. All on board were fine, just my pride as hurt. Continued plotting along to the mooring to check the damage over a couple of beers.
That night met up with another boat that met us over there, a few rums and a few laughs was a good night. Putting a bit of a fish frame onto a hook and tossing it over board was fun, some of the sharks on those moorings are unstopable, would love to see how big they are.
Second day we decided to do a bit of a run around and test the prop / gearbox. Was pretty good until you got into high revs and high torque and then it started vibrating. But it wasnt going to break down so we were alright. We headed out the back of the island again but to the north end. Jumped in on numerous bombies around the joint and managed to get our bag of trout and baldies as well as 17 crays. Some of the big riveria type boats worth millions are crazy that are getting over to the abrolhos these days, the tender boat on one of them was bigger than my 7m plate ally.
Once again headed back to the mooring, met up with the other boat for a cook up and laughs.
Last day we headed to a couple of bombies we knew had big baldies on. First spot we dropped anchor and looked over the side and had a baldie sitting there looking up at us. I said to one of the deckies have a look at this guy. No joke it was like he was almost turning on his side to look up at us, was pretty awesome to see actually. Jumped in and got a few baldies and then decided to start trolling / filleting and heading back to Gero. On the way out we decided to troll some deep divers for trout. Trout love the deep divers and we had about 4-5 hook ups with 2 decent fish landed. Was a highlight of the trip for me.
Got back to Gero and got a feed of dirty bird for the trip home... Got home around 7pm that night to find somewhere on the way one of my windows had been hit with something and shattered, must have been a very wayward rock to hit the boat on the side like that. Ahh well just another thing for the insurance company.
All up was a bloody good 3 days apart from the mishaps. 270 litres of fuel used on the boat, 2 tanks of fuel in the 200 series and alot of great memories. Well worth it
Next up Mackeral Islands!!! Cant bloody wait!!!
Cheers

Broke the Curse
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2022-05-20 20:33My last 5 trips out have been terrible and even my whiting spot has been shite.
Tried a different tact today and pushed out of Ocean Reef. Slow bite but managed a nice baldy and dropped a suspected much heavier model. Plus an unfortunate dhu that came up with a cuttlefish attached to its brain.
Bite time was a small window before lunch and it shut down hard after 12. I then covered a heap of ground and marked up some spots out to the 36m mark. The weather was so mint I was marking ground at 32knots as seen below so hopefully they'll yield next trip.

Recent and Upcoming trips
Submitted by Piggy on Tue, 2022-05-17 09:31Finally......
After doing alot of work on my boat including re-wiring it all, changing the layout of the gunnels, painting, installing seadeck flooring and alot more (Ive posted a few of these improvements in the Boating/ info forum) a month or so ago I finally go the chance to actually use the boat haha
Did an overnight trip, if you have been there you will know where Im beach launching from. The Biggest dhu was 16kgs smallest was 8kgs. Ended up with our 2 dhu, 4 baldies and 2 massive black ass.
Second day went out for a quick morning fish to try get a quick bag before heading home. Only managed 1 dhu around the 8kg mark with 3 baldies, 2 snapper and 2 black ass. Retrieved the boat before midday and headed home.
Ive been lucky enough that Ive struck up a bit of a friendship with one of the guys at Mackdog Tackle and I have been buying the hybrid "Underdog" jigs off them. They are similar to alot of the bottom meat hybrid jigs that everyone has been selling but instead of just being bought off Alibaba or Aliexpress these are hand made by the bloke so the quality of them are so much better than the alibaba crap where the hooks bend. I bought a heap off them and paid I think $10 each or something which is about half the price of the other stuff... Scored a free fishing shirt because I spent about $500 hahaha. Everyone on the boat used them and had zero issues catching everything from the Dhuies to huge Sambos and even a massive tiger shark that decided to eat one of the sambos. So if your looking for a decent hybrid jig thats locally made and supporting local business I highly recommend them.
The boat was amazing. Could not believe the difference the changes I made to the boat made fishing in the boat so much easier. Seemed like there was alot more room to fish and the flooring on your feet was brilliant.. I had rubber on there before and after a few hours your feet started hurting haha.
So this year we have an Abrolhos trip planned and for our big annual trip later in the year we decided that we are going to go back to Mackeral Islands. Really looking forward to both trips and will post a bit of a write up once the trips are done!
Cheers
Happy fishin!

Dooms day prepping
Submitted by rob90 on Fri, 2022-04-08 12:38Snuck out yesterday arvo to get my parents a feed of whiting and enjoy the weather. It was on to say the least. Scored my bag of whiting and a squid easy. With a lot of slimeys in amongst them I thought I'd try for a pink with fresh bait on the way home. With one fresh bait, i found a bait ball getting harassed, dropped down a chunk of fresh slimey and I was on to a nice little pink. Dropped on the same bait ball and landed a smaller one then off home I went. The squid followed a whiting up and I was able to switch bait him with a jig.

night out with the wifey
Submitted by brown364 on Mon, 2022-04-04 22:36Shot out for a friday night date night on the water with she who out fishes me. not far from home in 11mt of water , we burlied up hoping for a pink although no such luck this time. Wife pulled in a nice little keeper Dhu, I managed a couple of 450 tailor inbetween playing with a little shark that was doing laps aroung the boat. Wife hooked onto another nice fish which was dropped as drag was cranked and just as i flew across to back it off a bit ....ping!! it was gone ! great night any ways and gode to see her in action !
Sunday morn was a run out to the bank with the bro and sis inlaw where we anchored up and dumped the burley again on the surface and a bottom bomb. with the others starting to get a few touches on the bottom , I threw a weighted pilly out the back on a sneeled circle rig and went to drop the bottom gear down when line stated peeling from the floater. A wee tussel was on and i finally saw PINK!, my allergy was no more.. or was it !. I lead it to the several times repaired net and it was in.. then the net snapped off the handle and the bro inlaw was tryining to pin a pink with the net part against the side of the boat looking in a panic at me silently saying what the fuck do i do now. I then found out that the tail grip was not going to work so we screamed for the gaff and successfully pined it and dragged on board.
adrenaline was flowing and hands still shaking we go a pic and back to work we went.
managed a couple of small dhus (one sized ) though 51 cm looks to small to keep so weighted him back down to grow some more in hope of upsizing . next was a nice baldie .small blackarse , blue devil, ray ,smaller baldies and a bronzie. no dhu upgrade.
all in all a great morning/Weekend out and hoping for more to come.
Additional pic from a few weeks earlier . another cracking morn on the water !

Good baldie
Submitted by rob90 on Tue, 2022-03-22 12:00Went out last weekend and managed a tasty little feed. Baldie went 61cm and pink 73. Both taken on a 5in placcie on a 1oz jighead. Baldie was from 29m and pink from 40m. Nothing beats baldie imo and smaller pinks eaten fresh are great. What is a good size baldie? I regularly get them around this size as well as smaller models but I'm wondering what people consider ripper baldies.

tailor
Submitted by kknlk on Thu, 2022-01-20 19:08After a long hiatus I found that tailor may be back at Triggs. So this morning I had a go. Was there only for an hour and a bit because on my first cast I hooked a 65cm 2.3kg. Got a chopper on my next and after that was small fish bites but seem to be like herring. Enough for dinner so I quit. Could hardly fit into wader bag
