He bought a new 6 inch lure ( video he sent me it swims unreal) he landed the silver looking trout about half hour ago on the new pike lure . Other one last week . 15 pounds a day to fish a private dam ( huge) . He is so determined to get big pike . No dought in my mind he will get one over 30 lb . That’s what he is chasing . Funny thing is when he was on track going into property he was talking to me . And he beeps horn and said get out of the way dumb bird( 10 ks an hour) pheasant walking in front of him . I told him to boot car .pluck/ gutt and put in oven . Good opportunity gone there .

Early RDO Sweet Meat Run

Sweet run out at 30 knots and found another boat in my whiting patch so tried to work around them at a respectable distance. At one stage I was stationery on the water and gave soft placcies a go today and they work very well.

Thanks to Sea Rescue for the 11am reminder and it was a surreal place to spend a minute silence floating on a mill pond.

ADO - Sweet Meat Run

Finally got on the water with work and kid duties killing me lately.

School run then chilled out waiting for the wind to drop but got impatient so roughed it and headed to my whiting patch in 23m. The 12kn easterly (20kn gusts!) made whiting fishing on 1-2kg gear very hard and had trouble finding them but git them after few drifts.

Pretty sporatic but when the wind dropped was getting them more consistantly but when it changed to the SW it switched on bigtime and I was working two rods hard trying to keep up resulting in a few triple headers.

Was picky keeping my 30 and got a good feed for a couple of dinners at least.

Fishing with the young bloke and his first boat

My young bloke Ollie, turning 4 later this year. Loves fishing like his old man. We're lucky enough to have Cockburn sound as our local, protected from swell and when its a cranking sou wester we can launch down Rocko end in almost millpond conditions. Mostly troll small plastics for the hezzas, he winds them in and puts them in the bucket, we'll take a couple back to the ramp with us so he can show and tell whoever will listen before chucking them back in. Have found a few sambo nursery spots this year, been great watching him get bent over by them too.

We often head down to Peron where there seems to be an abundance of tarwine between the reefs. They go really hard actually!

For our Covid Iso project earlier in the year, we picked up a small tinny for $75. Ollie named it Floaty and is on it just about every day.

Pemberton Reds

Got into some nice reds over the last couple of days on the Warren river. Biggest going 43cm, landed 50+ fish in 2 days and around 15 fish over 40cm. Seen heaps of rainbow trout feeding off the surface but couldn't tempt them without the fly rod

PB 19kg Dhu

Went out last week when the weather was perfect and managed to get my PB Dhu going bang on 19kgs bled.

Story goes - Went to a spot that lit up with fish. All 3 on the boat dropped down and were all instantly on. I was using a soft plastic jig head with snelled hooks on the bottom (Poor mans bottom meat) All 3 of us got busted off, mine snapped just above my leader knot one of the other boys got bricked and the other snapped the leader at the hooks. Epic 3 way hook up with nothing coming on board, we actually called it for a school of sambos. Re-rigged and dropped back down, Got a few smaller fish sambos, dhuies, baldies etc but nothing huge and noticed after that first 3 way hook up the sounder went dead. Did a couple more drifts with it going a little quiet. Decided to cruise around a bit to see if we could find the fish again. We found them about 200m away from where we originally found the school. Dropped back down again and 2 of us hooked up immediately. One of us got bricked, mine ran like buggery on my light overhead jig rod using a ball sinker with snelled hooks. Mates called it for a big sambo and I called it for a sting ray as it would run then stop, big heavy weight then run again. A good 15 minute fight we saw colour but the other boys had lost interest as we didn't think much of it, they were grabbing beers etc. It had 1 last run and it went under the boat. I yelled out "Check the other side of the boat" one of the other boys looked over as this massive Dhu blobbed up right beside the boat. He yelled out "Its a massive dhu" Ecstatic we grabbed him and lifted him in. In its mouth was my rig as well as my Poor Mans bottom meat!!! It was the dhu that had snapped me off a good 45 minutes earlier!! Was destine to catch him obviously hahaha!! Stoked to say the least.

One of the boys were using the Kraken made by Bust up specialty tackle - Basically its similar to a bottom meat but shaped like an octopus (Pic below green one). I don't use expensive stuff like that but I tell you what they work bloody well. The 19kg dhu was caught on a cheap ball sinker and snelled hook total price of about $4 compared to the $20 odd bottom meats. Goes to show you don't need expensive gear.

Anyway that's my story hahaha stoked with the fish and stoked to get both my rigs back haha

Gummies are thick at the moment

A couple of hours, some fresh yellow tail for bait and plenty of flake for the freezer with the upcoming closure

Good feed

Had a ball

Family/fishing trip north

just been away for a family/fishing trip north!

Few days out in between the average weather and the sharks whilst out there are terrible. But none the less few fish boated!

Few pinks before the ban

Here's a couple pics of a few pinks I got before the ban!

I've been tagging a few pinks this year too and recently tagged a 86cm fish and I got a phone call 6 days later saying it had been recaptured. Good.to see the pinks healthy once released and feeding again!

Bucket list fish

Hi Everyone,

Long time lurker, but I finally think I may have something worth posting about.

Caught this beauty after years of trying for a big one,was landbased in Exmouth on a recent holiday up there.

Need bigger fish box

 Need a bigger fish box.

Pb Dhufish

Got my Pb Dhufish yesterday out from Dawesville. It went a touch over 20kgs and 1.08m. Yehar I was stoked.

PB Dhu

Went out on Friday and although the Easterly was a bit stronger than predicted headed out to a place where I had been successful previously

Trying to get through all the undersize Snapper was a bit painful (40 to 45 cm in length) but it proved worthwhile

Landed a PB Dhui which went 16Kgs on the scales so happy with that

RDO Run

Dropped the kids off at school with the boat hooked up and headed straight to the ramp and in the water by 9:30.

Headed out to my sandwhiting spot by the stiff easterly made life very difficult and chucked it in after 3 fish in 5 drifts with the high tide approaching.

Checked out some new ground I'd found last trip and bagged me a nice blackbum on the second drop. Some nice sounder action but I couldn't get passed the baby snapper so headed to my honeyhole to see the screen light light up.

One drop, one fish and I was outa there. Not the target species but  I can definiety live with that.

Skeptical on bottom meats!?!?

Had a pretty good experience this morning that I thought I should share.

I was pretty skeptical about the vexed bottom meats when they first came out, but after a bit of time I figured I'd get some to give them a try. Usef them for the first time today. Found a nice little lump with heaps of fish showing on the sounder. Drifted over it a few times with baits for some undersized snapper. Had caught a small Sargent baker so put it down whole on the bottom meat about 4m off the bottom. Put the rod in the holder and went about getting the other rod down. Turned around and saw the bottom meat rod doubled over on what looked like a snag, then saw a bit of a kick which got me a bit more interested.

Picked up the rod and it was pretty clear it was a solid fish. After a good number of solid surges back to the bottom I knew I had a pretty decent dhuie and was expecting something about 15kg. Went a bit easier on it once it was off the bottom just to be sure nothing pulled out or broke. Eventually got it to the surface and when it broke the surface I couldn't believe the size of it. Reefed it on board and then let out several expletives. Put it on the scales and it bottomed out 22kg scales. Went 105cm but was an absolute barrel of a fish.

For those interested was caught out of Mindare in the 50's.

I'm thinking there might be something about these bottom meats. Anyone else had success with them?

Coupla weekend missions

Magic weather in Karratha this weekend, got out to some spots that hadnt been seen in a long time and had fun with a few for the esky and some catch and release to go with the island hopping.

Sweet Meat Run

Took Lachs and the old man out for a run yesterday. Good fun punching through the gap in a 2m swell.

Decided a whiting run to put some fish in the esky first was the go and loaded up on 39 nice sandies with Lachie smashing me again.

Headed to some new ground and after some decent hits Lachie was on and spent 15 shoulder punishing minutes fighting.... a rock haha. A fee tears and back into it and he pulls up a small dhu with a cuttlefish on it only to discover the cuttlefish had chewed the dhu's brain!!! Chucked him back and saw old mate reappear to claim his lunch.

Headed to old faithful and Lachie dropped a nice Blackarse at the boat and the old man caught a dhu agonisingly short of 50cm. No demersals but a briliant day with 3 generations in the one tub.

Its a Pirates Life

 Hey Guys,

Been a while since i was last on here.

Couple of pics from our trip last year - only a couple of months away from our next - hope the weather is as good.

Yellowfin Tuna off Mindarie

Went out chasing snapper a couple of weeks ago and ended up landing this decent sized yellowfin on pe2. Took a floater just after sunset and had another run about 10 mins prior. Took off like a freight train have no idea how we turned its head.

Good morn

Took mate out . His pb on dhue . Got a great feed. Dhues/baldies/kgs and black ass.i thought big moon would be crap .it wasn’t

Another successful evening bash

I couldn't help myself when I looked at the weather over the next few evenings yesterday so made a plan to head out to the same spot that I caught my dhue on Friday. Everything was going the same as Friday other than the wind direction got my burley trail going and enjoyed how dead calm it was kept my slow trickle of mulie cubes going then at almost the same time as Friday one of my rods takes off, I grab it and enjoy a good little tussle all the way up and net it with my repaired bet. I could see it was close but measured it and it was 55cm. Another good feed for the freezer.

PB Redfin

Just got back from a trip to the Warren River chasing redfin. Some of the best freshwater fishing I've had with 12 fish over 40cm and my personal best at 45cm in 2x 3 hour sessions.
