Pb dhu on 20lb
Submitted by Callum24 on Tue, 2015-08-25 17:46Headed out last week with joe reef to try get a feed for his kids and a few baits, a hour an a half of squiding produced 1 squid, so lets go get a few whiting 1 whiting along with by catch, blooody hell this was not going as we planned any way we drifted over a lump while chasing whiting and the hand line goes off with the big bait and up pops a 10kg dhu for joe reef
Should we drift it again? lets go i dropped the 20lb 3000 sol2 down and straight away smoked took a good 20 minute battle and up poped this fella pretty pleased as i'm a land based guy and really enjoyed catching and releasing another not quite as big, scored a few skippy for bait and caught some 50 odd cm bronzies wish i had a bigger fish tank, top day out

Kalbarri August Trip
Submitted by Mark Colley on Sun, 2015-08-23 08:30First couple of times out we were trying some spots that were given to me with not much action at all, some chinaman, blueline and 1 pinkie. We then spoke with some locals and they said travel north a bit. We got some red throat and a 2.5kg badly. We set up to drift over again with the sea anchor and just drifted for a while, then we got the action we were looking for. Sea sweep, 5kg coral trout, 5kg badly sambos, dhuies from 4.5kg to 8.5kg and plenty of good size blueline and red throat emperor. this spot we found gave us good fishing every time we went back there. We were able to bring home a good feed of fish to share with friends and family. We are already planning for the next one, but maybe going a bit earlier in the year to try our luck with some tuna and mackies.

Fishing Thurs 13/08
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Mon, 2015-08-17 18:43So I went out fishing Mindarie on Thursday with a mate Wayne. Had an awesome day after launching around 7, headed north west to his spots. First drift was slow but it picked up after that with the first fish coming on board on my new Eupro Giant King and Shimano Symetre 4000 setup, a really good size scorpion fish. Sent him back.. rebaited and dropped back down to hook up straight away.. This felt like a snapper with some headshakes but not a huge fish, got him to the surface and sure enough about a 45cm snapper. Sent him back and remarked to Wayne 'I have never caught a legal pinkie' Wayne says 'well this could be the day'.
New baits and down I go again. 30seconds on the bottom and whack.. im on again with the shimano singing its song, more headshakes and obviously a much better fish. A few mins of pump and wind and some good runs, up pops my first sized pink snapper at 710mm.
We took some photos and iki jimi'd the fish and put it into the esky. Happy days!
Fished the rest of the day for a variety of spots with it being a bit quiet for Wayne with only a skippy and the biggest fox fish I have seen. I ended out with the pinkie, a reasonable baldchin grouper, a bloody nice fat KGW and a good cuttlefish caught on a whole sgnt baker on a snelled rig.
We both landed heaps of gurnard/scorpion fish also.
Got back to the ramp and unpacked, said thanks and went home. I filleted the snapper and KGW after giving the baldie to Wayne and put them as whole fillets into a tupperware container, but didnt snap the lid down. I took the frames and heads next door to my neighbours so he and his wife could make their fish hotpot recipe. Walk back to my place and the dog is in the back yard happy as larry. Just as I say 'What are you so happy about' I see Banjo has knocked the lid off the tupperware container and proceeded to eat a whole fillet of my first legal sized pink snapper.
Its only just becoming funny now.

10/10 Morning. Bagged out in 10 mins in 10m of water
Submitted by sim0 on Mon, 2015-08-17 15:53Just a few picks of the "Prince of Pink" and the "Black Sea Dog" bagging out on pinkies in 10 meters of water in 10mins. Very frantic session! Rod in one hand fighting a fish with scoop net in other netting a fish.
Cant wait for the big ones to show up.
Last picture is of a 10kg Dhu I pulled from near on the same spot a few weeks earlier. I think it was lost and decided to swim for the shore. Was a tank of a fish for its size. I was suprised at its weight when i put it on the scales. Nice thick fillets!
..........Pics of 1m+ pinks to come ( I hope)

Tailor & Salmon together = fun
Submitted by Wishniwasfishn on Wed, 2015-08-12 22:59Decided to head down for a quick beach fish last Thursday 6th/8 but conditions were that nice I thought I would brave the cool water for a reef fish instead. So glad I did as the Tailor went absolutely nuts with a couple of Salmon chucked in just to spice things up a bit, bait casting mulies was the go but soon ran out & switched to lures. Ended the morning with 30 plus Tailor, 2 Salmon & just to top of the morning a Sambo which gave the 11ft ASSASSIN Amia & little Shimano a nice work out. The Sambo came in on a Stick Bait but in hind sight I think he may have hit a hooked Tailor & got a bit more than he bargained for. Kept 2 Tailor & a Salmon with everything else released
The fishing was so good I had to go back on the Friday but a couple of mates tagged along, they wernt disappointed with the Tailor going off again, I managed 2 more Salmon, we had Sambo's bigger than the one on Thursday chasing the hooked Tailor up onto the Reef all the way to our feet snapping at them as we lifted them from the water. We all got 25 plus Tailor each from just under 50cm through to a nice 72 cm job. Hooked 2 of what I guess we're the Sambo's but couldn't stop them this time. 2 other guys down there got 8 or 10 each as well. We kept a couple of Tailor each & released the rest.

Shark Bay land based
Submitted by Loco on Fri, 2015-08-07 15:50A mate and I recently hit up Shark Bay to do some land based fishing. The fish of the trip was a massive mulloway!
Tipped the scales at 20 kgs and gave the setup one heck of a workout with the fish going on 6 or 7 powerful runs before we managed to land it. As you can imagine after that, there were big smiles all round and well deserved beers were cracked open.
First photo is a little grainy due to the low light conditions just moments after the fish was landed. Second photo certainly does it more justice.

Last break stories
Submitted by crowie on Sun, 2015-08-02 16:07Did well on my last break home getting the boat out in the water 9 days of the 23 that i had off. Did a couple of solo runs and the rest with mates. Had to buy a new rod for the TLD 50 and a new reel ( daiwa saltiga overhead ) for the spare setup. Just want to shout out to Complete angler and camping on dixon road in Rockingham for doing me an excellent deal on everything i bought that day, i will be coming back soon to get some gear for a trip to shark bay next year. I will try to recall what i/we caught on each day. The first 4 days i was home i had the boat in the water.
Day 1. Arvo run, Pinkie and a dhuie. Nothing big but hey fish in the boat.
Day 2. After getting home from day 1 at 10pm and just parking the boat up not worried about cleaning it until tomorrow, i filleted the two fish and thought "gee what can i do with the offal" hooked up the boat again for a solo run back to the same spot to get rid of it
. With the bait all defrosted from the day before i dropped down and within about 2 minutes both rods buckled big time. First thought was both sambos and i was right mostly.... but the sambo was accompanied by a cracker baldie. With a grin from ear to ear i went back again of coarse, managed to nail a double header of blackasses. They weren,t massive but the bigger one went into the tank and the second one went back. Chuffed with the two drifts and had more than enough fish i thought that will do and headed back in. was home by 1030am.
Day 3. Mrs had an afternoon shift on this day so i thought i should stick around in the morning but still went out in the arvo. Just went for a squid this time with 2 other mates. One of them had no idea what to expect squidding and ended up with a face full of ink and needless to say some dirty clothes. Ended up getting 6 good size squid in about 2 hours.
Day 4. Cleaned the squid from the day before and kept the legs as bait and gave the tubes to me mate as he had not tried fresh squid. Still having the itch to get amongst some decent fish off i went again out to the 40's with another mate to see what we could come up with. Fresh squid on as bait it was a little slow in the morning but decided i would change things up and setup the terez and do some jigging. Of all things to get... a NW blowie.... haha would never have thought a blowie would take a jig. Anyway as the day went on we managed another 2 average pinks and a maybe 6-7 kg dhu.
Decided the boat can have a rest for a few days and the wind was playing up a bit for a few days so time to let the body recoop from the jet lag.
Day 5. After a few days rest and many beers down, i gave another mate a call to see if he wanted to come out just in the sound and asked if he could get me some occy diving. This man never turns up an opportunity to be in the ocean so that arvo off we go to garden island. In the water he gets while i sit and drink some more beers he comes back to the boat about 1hr later with a huge bag of occy. Emptied into a 25 litre bucket nearly filled it. Sweet... Bait for days..
Day 6. Me and same mate went out for an arvo fish after he finished work and just before dark we had 2 gummys on board around 1 meter in length. We persisted for a few hours but no luck after the two sharks.
Day 7. Another solo run, back to where the sharks were caught, and managed a baldie and another shark im not greedy just a half day, 2 fish and went home.
Day 8. Back to the original spots where the sambos were ( great food for the dogs, they love it ) Managed 2 sambos a baldie and about 5 undersize dhu's
Day 9. Took the mrs, my sister and her partner. The sea was a little angry from the days before and the wind was squally for a few hrs then it would die off for a few hrs before coming back again. We hit 35 meters and started fishn and the mrs was getting greener and greener with no interest in fishing at all. She put the hard word on me to take her back in and i had to oblige. Dropped her off and headed back out with the others. We went to shark spot again and managed another gummie, a black ass and this stonker cuttlefish.
I didn't take many pics but i will be sure to next time. It was a wicked break and im greatful to have been able to get out so much on my time off. Lets see what next break can bring.
