Saturday Deep drop and my PB Nannygai
Submitted by mallesh on Mon, 2015-05-11 11:01Beautiful conditions out wide, day started very slow but finished well. Got stuck into a school of Nannygai on our Grey band spot, they where like pest. Double headers every drop, can't get past them to catch our targeted species, so we had to move spots. Enjoy!!! http://fishwrecked.com/files/images/Deep%20Drop%20090515.preview.jpg

bastard fish invaded my mack spot
Submitted by Deleted on Sun, 2015-05-10 20:36shot out from two rocks solo in search of some more jigged mackies, found the bait balls dropped the jig zzzzzzzzzzz pop damn it, jig gone bitten off. tried this a few more times for 2 more lost jigs one to knot failure the other to another bite off.
moved away for a bit as i had become frustrated picked up 2 small dhus both released, marked some new ground but nothing great. couldnt believe the speed i was drifting well over a knot with sea anchor out in calm conditions. any one else get this problem today
anyway moved back to original spot chucked a placcy down for something different BAM hit as soon as it touched the bottom, this was the begining of a snapper sesh i hadnt had for a very long time, all up 8 snapper smallest around 650mm largest over 800mm, gave up taking pics after 4 fish.
cheers gilly

Exmouth GT on jig
Submitted by GGs on Sat, 2015-05-02 21:03Got this GT today jigging in 55m off tantas on PE4 gear. Hit the jig and missed the hooks then came back for a second go. Thought it was a shark based on the blistering runs with big tail pumps. Sadly it got nailed by the tax man and after many atempts to swim the fish back to health it gave up and died. Filleted it up and to my surprise it tasted OK when pan fried. Not a bad fish for my first GT.
Went 25.14kg (missing its ass) and 127cm to the tip! Not something ill forget in a hurry!

Yesterdays Fish
Submitted by fish 06 on Mon, 2015-04-27 12:34Went out yesterday at around 09:00, headed N/W from Mindarie
very ordinary conditions on the way to our marks, stopped at 28 metres
to see if there were any whiting around, no go with the breeze and the current.
The decision was made to push on, out to the 40's, a line of cray pots right on our mark
decided to fish it anyway, a lot of bait showing on the sounder
with the wind and the current we ended up drifting down the line
after several drifts we had 2 pinkies & 2 fox fish for the day
checked at the ramp by fisheries, and told a few undersized pinkies had come through
Unable to add Photo's ? Pinkies went 550 & 750

salmon pffffft please
Submitted by Deleted on Mon, 2015-04-27 12:10well ive been lucky enough to join the metro mack club and it wasnt a solo sesh.
fishwrecked member wickky deckied on my boat and ChrisG brought his boat along as well.
we made plans to head to two rocks sunday and head out around 9am hoping the wind would ease. was lumpy early but eased a little through the day.
pulled up on my first mark chris made the call to move 100m south and we would keep in touch with fishing glory.
first mark seemed to have a bunch of baitfish hugging the bottom so over went the "new jig", not really set up as liked being first drift, i was dicking about sorting eskies etc not paying attention. once organised i started to retrieve jig to reset drift when i was smashed on the way up. leader shredded to pieces ( a few hefty swear words ) i cut rejoined and reset with another jig, hesitent it may have been a shark or worse yet a NWESTER we moved back to start again.
set up drift baitschool on sounder over goes the jig 2/3rds of the way to the bottom bail arm still open, line starts stripping of my reel (damn thats going down fast) flick the bail over to see the drag light up like never before, screaming in ecstasy zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. i was hooten and holerin yewwwwww fish on boy.
damn that first run was intense on 15lb stradic 4000, once it started coming to the surface i started to mutter the word mackie or tunnnaaaa, a few more really good runs diving under the prop and around the sea anchor up pops mack daddy, clean gaff shot from wickky to just under the gills and bam my first mack let alone metro mack ON JIG measured at roughly 115cm
gave the same mark a few more goes, chris tried to tow a few lures over the area to no evail.
moved onto a few marks wider for 3 baldies all sized 2 to wicky one to me, one was to close so over it went, chris had moved further south and scored a sensational dhu and a tidy baldie leave that for him to tell if he wishes.
on the way in tried the mack spot to find them still there, a few drifts over the mark only provided one 440mm snapper released and a few hits on the jig with big teethy scars in the metal .
cheers for the read lads.
thanks to wickky and ChrisG for the day
ps pic didnt turn out to well, something wrong with phone camera

Last few salmon trips
Submitted by beau on Tue, 2015-04-21 19:03Here's a few photos from a couple salmon trips lately. Have been really lucky to fill in deckie spots on various boats and have met some great people in the process. The numbers of fish around the metro area are insane at the moment and the weather lately has been some of the best ive seen out on the water, making for some great fishing and cool photos.
The baitfish around town have been getting hammered, I wonder how much longer this scalie survived?
This was the most obscure object on the boat we could find at the time to throw at schools of savaging fish, snubber cord from the outriggers..
Hope you enjoyed,
Beau.

Mewstone Salmon
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Sat, 2015-04-18 22:43Hey all,
I went out with Fishwrecked member Nickk today for a crack at some tailor and salmon this afternoon out of woodies. We were surprised when heading out to the mewstone tailor spot to see between 25-50 boats between Garden Island and Carnac and then the same again north of Mewstone. Most seemed to be anchored up??? We got to mewstone and had a good crack at the whitewash with mulies on gangs and soft plastics on jigeheads with one driving and the other casting for no luck. After 20-30 mins Nickk(the skipper) said what do you want to do? I said all these boats have to be going for salmon maybe we should have a troll... So I lent Nickk a rapala Xrap in a mulie pattern and tied one on myself on the 20lbs spinning outfit and we headed off around mewstone.
Within five mins my rod went off, as I said to Nickk 'I'M ON' he yelled out 'I'M ON' we both were stoked to see our respective salmon doing aerials and tailwalking around the boat. After 5 mins or so of drags screaming on both reels and multiple passing of rods over and under as the fish took us around the boat we both landed our first metro salmon and released them to be followed by cheers and high fives. From there we did another loop resulting in another double hookup. Nickk wanted to keep one to try so we iki jimi'd it and bled it out into the ice in the esky. What now was the question. I had released two and wasnt all that keen on keeping one, Nickk was at one release one in the esky, but the fight was so awesome we had to go again. Around we went and by this time about four boats from the pack north of mewstone had headed over to check out our spot. Lures went out and within 15 seconds mine went off so I told Nick to cast again, sure enough on the retrieve his reel went off with my hooked salmons mate. A few minutes later we both landed our third salmon for the day. We both said what now? We had to have one more go...
So lure out again, by this time a gin palace had moved and pulled up in our troll line so I said to Nick take us across his stern and show him what they arent catching as they appeared to be squidding. Sure enough as we passed them both rods went off again. Another spectacular fight and after a few mins we both landed our fourth metro salmon ever. Unfortunately mine had so vigourously hit the xwrap he was bleeding a bit from the gills so I dispatched it a bled it out and will be trying salmon tomorrow morning.
We still had light and decided to move to the back of carnac for a drift and despite several bites, shows on the sounder and a small pinky landed it was not to be. We headed in pretty happy with the days efforts.
Cheers Nick.

Bunker Bay
Submitted by lachieH on Sat, 2015-04-18 20:13really happy got my first salmon today at bunker bay. It went to about 4.5kg and 77cm. Rob (rob90) got a nice 82cm about 5kg as well and kindly gave it to us for dinner. Got lots of fillets off them and I'm really happy. Mum made a video of me catching it, when it jumped and everything and her comments got quite funny. Also got a fairly good pic!

Great day off the stones
Submitted by doubleheader_king on Wed, 2015-04-15 21:35Had a great day today with Bersek fishing (new forum member)off the stones near Duns today. Started off at around 9 in the hope of getting salmon, herring and flathead. On arrival a large pack of salmon went by resulting in a 3 way hookup and lots of screaming runs. After landing the salmon we got out the light rods armed with gulp soft plastics and various different poppers. We had great fun with the herring with both of us bagging out. The day went on with many more salmon caught, 6 in total! After having fun on more herring (they were put back) we moved around to the beach in the hope of some flathead on soft plastics. We landed one near size flatty, before I hooked some creature big and heavy. I called it for a flathead but no; it was what I believe to be a stargazer! After a few quick pics the fish was released and buried itself in the sand. All up we had a great day! One to remember.

Submitted by el dorado on Tue, 2015-04-14 19:46Was just one of those days .... StArted slow but once the sun got out from behind the clouds it was all action... Peeled on 50 lb spin gear trolling.???? Bitten off at the Dacron on my wind on??? Dropped fish !!! Lost my favourite lure to yet another toothy this time attacking the clip and swivel..?? Heaps of long tail busting up so I'll chase them round now with only 80 lb overhead ( no thanks ) or the Barra gear due to Beeing spooled on the spin .... Yep three epic battles later and I finally managed to put one in the boat.... Too much fun

Starting to get the hang it / NT
Submitted by el dorado on Sat, 2015-04-11 18:03Moved up to Darwin late last year to be closer to my daughter and on arrival had an amazing 2 weeks at the daly bagging my first and then 30 more Barra even dropping a monster on live bait wich local was claiming well over a mtr.
apon moving to Darwin I started having real trouble finding good fish.
wrong tides in right places . Wrong place right tides. Never having any trouble getting on to good fish back home in wa it was really getting to me and a lot of other ppl were telling me that the territory is no fishing paradise but I was determind to prove the haters wrong.
so as you do you ask questions and listen carefully ( especially at the tackle shop) to where and more importantly ( when) ppl are getting these trophy fish. Well after a couply months I recon I'm starting to get the idea up here and here is a few good fish from the last month or so.... Cheers
