Submitted by doubleheader_king on Sun, 2015-10-04 10:10Loads of salmon Michael Parker, Cabe and myself have been catching recently. Heaps of good tailor too. Caught on halco c gars, Hamas and live baits. Don't post on here much and will try to do so in the future, I'm currently writing articles for magazines and will be at the mandurah boat show doing fishing talks on stage if your there. Cheers, Max.

Jack & Jill
Submitted by HondaHoncho on Fri, 2015-10-02 23:38My final BC salmon for a while. Polaroids certainly make a difference. Saw a small school of jacks (immature males) heading up the river and one took an olive sparkly fly almost immediately. Not another take for the next hour.
Decided to continue fishing this same location, as I'd spotted a much larger Coho... and hadn't seen her take the rapids above the pool. Sure enough, she finally took a heavier fly submersed in the flow of the pool.
Didn't see her for fifteen minutes, after which she jumped twice, then went deep again. Five minutes later, having regained some line, I saw her swimming strongly to my left, on the river bed in front of me. The net spooked her... and off she went downstream.
Working the rod on its side (a recently-watched vidclip has convinced me maximum leverage can be applied this way, if the drag is properly set) I finally got her back level with me again, but the net spooked her again... and she disappeared under a log beside the bank, where there's less current. Glad I upgraded to an 8 lb leader! When she finally reappeared, she was on her side, but it took me a couple of attempts to net her, as she was too big for my net. Even then, she jumped out of the net as I scrambled up the bank... .
What a holiday. Fly fishing for rainbows in England one week, for salmon in Canada the next. Probably even better than the fish I've caught during two months' fishing, has been my improved technique... as a result of outstanding (free) advice from helpful experts. An afternoon at the Haig-Brown Festival in Campbell River BC was certainly well-spent, improving my casting with these kind masters of the art... .

salmon still
Submitted by duncan61 on Tue, 2015-09-29 19:57

Hi all.been logged out for a few weeks but all sorted now.Went out sunday with son with the intention of going to James matthews wreck. Its my first time in the metro area in a tinny. The easterlies blew in gusts and forced me to take shelter at the entrance groyne to the boat ramp at cockburn boat ramp.My son flooped out a mulie on a gang and after a few moments hooked up on a salmon. There were more in the area and after I pulled the anchor I hooked up on a bit of squid on a single hook but it wore through the line.I know its only salmon but a great time .The wind dropped off so I decided to go to this wreck.I am glad I did as it is in 2.3 metres of water and blowfish seem to like it there.I had this same tinny in Carnarvon for 2 years and have boated big mulloway mackeral and snapper of all sorts but I am glad I have it back here might give squiding a go next time.

Last nights Snapper fishing
Submitted by Notorious on Thu, 2015-09-24 10:11Been out 4 times so far - no snapper.
Although last night the boat next to me 20 metres away caught 5 in the space of 20 minutes, so its a glimmer of hope that I'm in the right area now.
But I did catch a bunch of fresh bait for tonights session. Heres hoping my luck changes tonight, I'm getting frustrated chasing these things!

TODAY'S Coho
Submitted by HondaHoncho on Thu, 2015-09-24 04:28High wind... and driving rain... can't stop a West Aussie. Well, I lasted _an hour_ in moderate surf up to my chest, before heading upriver a few hundred metres, to my favourite pool. The river's deeper than it was a week ago... and the occasional splash encouraged me. I had this nice male Coho on in fifteen minutes. Unlike the last salmon, which took three-quarters of an hour to land, this eight-pounder was on the bank in ten minutes. Would have been less, but my landing net is just too small.
Would have stayed on for a second Coho, but quite heavy rain started... and there's always tomorrow!

Couple of mid-year trips up North
Submitted by Paj man on Wed, 2015-09-23 19:57Was meant to do this alot earlier but better late than never.
With my first 'proper' boat bought at the start of the year I booked in a couple of holidays up North to try and sample some of WA's great fishing. Hit Gnaraloo with a mate at the end of June for a week; only ended up getting 2 days of fishing in the boat and after a shakey trip with weather and breakdowns, we managed to get some good fish on the last day which was great. Then went to Coral bay towards the end of July with the bro's and did a little better. Nothing huge but it was great to get some good fish from my boat!
Now that I've tasted Gnaraloo, I am deadset keen to get back for a proper crack next year! Thanks to the forum members which helped me out with my Gnaraloo prep ![]()
Enjoy..

Today's catch
Submitted by Paul_86 on Fri, 2015-09-18 16:41G'day everyone,
Well I worked hard all week and managed to get today off as a reward, headed north of Perth and had a pretty good day out, little tuna of some sort, heaps of whales around doing there thing, then found some nice dhuies, a few sambos and a baldy. The fish were plentiful and very hungry, even pulled up a dhuie with a half chewed kaka in its mouth! why can't it always be like that!

Largest salmon on fly so far...
Submitted by HondaHoncho on Wed, 2015-09-16 03:22This large male Pink Salmon whacked my wet fly hard and quickly headed for the deep, fast-flowing river channel. Turned him just before he'd have spooled me. Night was falling and I was chest deep in the river. Applied consistent pressure, rod on side, trying to get line back in. Several times, I thought I had him close enough to net... and he took another run back out in the channel. Twenty minutes later, maybe longer, I netted him. Looking at that hard, hooked mouth, I realised why I'd lost the four previous fish I'd hooked earlier in the afternoon.
I'd had to exercise a lot of restraint, as my leader was 6lb... and I (wrongly) figured the fish I was fighting was over that weight. Twice in the last three weeks I've lost a salmon right at the net, when my leader failed. I was taking no chances with this beast... .
Beautiful silvery fish when caught... but it quickly faded when the missus put him in the freezer to chill before cleaning.

Big DHU off Ocean Reef
Submitted by Nibbles on Wed, 2015-09-09 17:44I was out fishing with a couple of fellas from work (Chris and Pitty) Monday off Ocean Reef and was lucky enough to jig up an 18.3kg (weighed it bled at home) Dhu that went right on 100cm. Needless to say I was absolutely pumped and there may have been some hysterical cries of "get the net" when it came up and realised how big the fish actually was. It was all photos and high fives for a while but then it was Chris and Pitty's turn to catch something. They both managed to catch a reasonable dhu and blackarse (all bait) each over the next couple of hours which they were pretty stoked with. Went home with 2 dhu and 2 blackarse in the esky. Was a really memorable day out.

84cm snapper to open the account!
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2015-09-06 14:23Headed out today for the first time in 6 weeks with the intention of a quick fish with my folks before picking up wife and bub for a picnic lunch at Garden Island.
After launching at woodies at the friendly hour of 0845, we headed north to North Mole with the aim of getting a couple of squid for lunch/bait.
Being very an unorganised this morning, I had to spend a bit of time getting rigs ready so while I was doing that, we threw out a couple of lures (big purple lazer pro, and small golden one) whilst my father steered along the north side of North mole.
Just as I finished the final squid rig, the larger of the two reels we had out the back started to scream. Initial call was either a Norwest blowy or a small Sambo. They just wasn't much fight.
Not edit overly confident on what I had hooked, I tightened the drag up and after a brief fight, I started to shout
expletives as a large silver fish started to emerge. I then thought it was a sambo all the way up until it broke the surface and lay on its side.
Very quickly into the net and onto the boat and the authorities would have been called about a woman screaming around the north Fremantle area. I was very excited as we had spent hours and hours out behind GI without luck. This was my 2nd pinky, the first was on a charter earlier this year.
A couple of quick photos and it was into the esky and lures back in the drink hoping for another. It wasn't to be.
Fish ended up 84cm and a shade under 10kg. Picture clearly shows where we were....
remainder of the day was
0 squid
1 10cm pinky at Hall Bank
2 wrasse
6 sand whiting at the windmills.
lunch ended up getting canned as the mrs has tonsillitis. Bugger.

Submitted by little johnny on Mon, 2015-08-31 21:20Just an idea dominators and Vikings very low back ends. Meant for short leg motors. When they put ally lifts on them put stress on back end. Here is what I done with my sons Viking . Heaps more support also stops waves coming in back end.
