Sound squid bash
Submitted by Noxious on Mon, 2015-07-13 15:39Hit the sound on Saturday for a squid bash - bagged out pretty quickly. Some good size ones mixed in there as well as about 7 Cuttlefish - always a nice welcomed addition!
Natural colours did the damage.

peppermint grove beach
Submitted by Lossie65 on Mon, 2015-07-13 09:43Had weekend away with the missus down south. Take your fishing gear she said. Never one to pass up the opportunity I thought I'd give it a shot. I have never fished the beach before and following some info posted by a couple of guys in the discussion section I was hoping for a mulloway but expecting a few whiting. Anyway imagine my surprise when I managed to land a 74cm pinkie.

Saturday fish
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2015-07-12 07:35Launched at Leeuwin at 1130 after picking up a make that had morning commitments, and took him out for his first boat fish in a long time, with the plan of squid, whiting and salmon. Most of his fishing had been beach stuff and he had lever caught a squid.
First goal was changed to squid so we took a couple of drifts south of South mole and around the enterance of FSC without luck, and after having to head in for a quick toilet stop (he is a bowel cancer survivor and when he has to go, he has to go), we headed out to Mewstone to find the salmon.
The school was still there though boats were placed over the top of it, and very tightly around it. With boats sitting on it, the school was down low and very spread out so we opted to trawl around the perimeter with an X-Rap on Tony's rod and a Smilin Jack on mine.
Tony was on quickly and was entertained by the fight and after netting and releasing the fish we were back in it, me with a white richter plug. Again, Tony was on and my efforts to get some surface action resulted in nil.
Again, Tony's fish was netted, released and we were off again, this time with an X-rap on mine too.
Putting around the school (as more boats were on it) we managed another three fish, and after 5 over 30 minutes, we headed off for some whiting. All salmon swam away healthily.
Just south of the windmills this time we drifted and were immediately on with some small whiting which swam back. The following 1.5 hours resulted in 30 or so fish, with the biggest 20 being kept.
moving in to try for some skippy at Hall Bank, I found the school quickly and landed two biggins though after feeding them too much burley, they went off the bite quickly.
Final stop was just north of North mole for one last squid session in the final 30 mins without luck.
we ended the day with 20 whiting and two skippy. Great winter day out onthe pond.

Saturday fish
Submitted by beau on Sun, 2015-07-05 16:50Had a great day out with fellow member Rosie on Saturday. After an early start of 4am we were on the fish straight away with undersized snapper falling to the first 2 driftbaits in the water after only a few minutes of cubing. I persisted with a glow plastic in the pitch black darkness that accounted for a ~60cm dhu. A few sharks, lots more undersized pinks and a few rays were falling to baits and we were pleasantly surprised with 3 kgw ranging from 45-50cm taking whole mulies.
Sunrise came but the big pinks didnt so decided to head out wider to add to the bag but could only manage a few undersized dhuies and a keeper baldie on the jigs. Came across quite a few birds with big pelagics crashing the surface, instead of casting a stickbait out went the jigs and mine was belted halfway back to the top, fingers crossed for a good tuna but up popped a stinky sharkie.
Good day none the less hopefully the bigger pinks come out to play next time

Exmouth and coral bay
Submitted by reece on Fri, 2015-07-03 11:39Had a good trip to exmouth and coral bay. First time I had the big boat in coral bay so managed to get out a bit deeper and find sum nice new ground. Heaps of wahoo yellow fin and macks around but the bottom fish were a bit quiet cause of the Northey winds but still manages a esky full each trip.
Better weather in exmouth and we managed to get in to a few rubys and marlin. I left my car and boat up there and go back up after this swing at work

Work sucks but this makes it alot easier
Submitted by crowie on Sun, 2015-06-28 14:44Heres some pictures of me and one of the locals taking some time out during our lunch break to go fishing off the rig we work on in west africa. I brought out a 200lb handline for myself which i used for a while before i gave it to old mate so he could have some fun. I use a rod now its a penn 5 piece 24kg travel rod coupled with a fin nor offshore 7500 ( winch of a reel ;) ) and 80lb braid. We mainly fish with jigs but you can use anything really, we've caught mahi mahi on a knife i drilled some holes in and attached some hooks to. I have nearly been spooled a few times with the drag down as tight as i can handle as there is quite a few unstopables out here. Great fun and its normally about a 17 meter drop to the water, so we have to use a landing net fashioned from some instrument tubing and some old rope access rope. Some of the main species we see here are yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, big eye tuna, wahoo, dorado or maha mahi, black trevalley ( i think )and sharks.... many many many sharks with some monster hammerheads in schools of 40 of 50. We have caugth some funky looking fish to..... Put in google LANCET FISH they are a funny looking bastard from the deep water. Caught some squid too of all things to see out here in 2000m of water. The last few days has been epic as the size of the tuna around will certainly give you a run for your money. I have a video of us throwing some lures at some mahi mahi and they are not interested but due to the awesome internet connection i would still be here in 2016 trying to upload it. Anyway hope you enjoy the pics.

quick squid run - 25.6.15
Submitted by rigpig on Fri, 2015-06-26 11:22Did a quick run out into the sound yesterday arvo. I was out the for 45 minutes and picked up nine for the weekend family lunch. I have been leaving one jig in the water under the boat about a metre off the bottom and casting and working another jig and when I get one on and get it alongside the boat there seems to be another following it up. The jig suspended under the boat generally acounts for the follower.

Gnaraloo
Submitted by Jc85 on Tue, 2015-06-09 21:01Hi Guys.
Just returned from a 10 day trip to Gnaraloo
The track was the best we have seen it, with the grader goin down it atm.
The fishing was slow at times but we did manage 15 kg of fillets - 8kg of Red, 3Kg of rankin, 2Kg of trout and 2 kg of pearl perach/ Robinson se bream per person. 6 of us fishing
The weather was awesome with most days glassing out.
Capture of the trip was my 7.33kg Coral trout caught in 42m and 3 km off shore. this fish went 220grams off the state record.
we also lost some decent fishing to bust offs and the occasional shark.
some horse cobia around too. as well as lots of yellow fin
Recommend this place to anyone wanting to get into some serious fish

Too Ezy
Submitted by rob90 on Sun, 2015-06-07 17:23Pulled a sickie on friday and spent the day out on the water with too ezy charters. Had an awsome day out with a small group of top blokes. The swell was pretty big but the wind was almost non existant for a day that went through the 40s 60s 80s 90s then back through to the 40s. There were no monsters caught but we all went home with a bag. I managed a 73cm pinkie in the high 80s and a 68cm dhu (second for the week ☺) from the 40s on relitively light gear. I hightly recommend these guys if you like the idea of a small charter (max 6 people) he really knows his stuff, top day out.

Awesome wkend at the families beach shack
Submitted by fincher on Mon, 2015-06-01 19:01Well yet another great wkend at the shack with perfect weather conditions Saturday mornin headed out headed to our shallow spots (between 6-10m) and the grounds didn't disappoint us first drift first drop off the jig flipped the bail arm over lift off the rod bang on. After a nice fight on the Stradic ci4 loaded with 10lb braid up pops a 690mm dhuie. Next on board was me uncles dhuie on bait went 730. There's our limit moved up a bit where we have previously got baldies yet still was hassled by the dhuies Ended up boat 7 that day so we called it a day with 2 dhuies and 1 Blackass
Sunday headed out again first drop me uncle gets a just size dhuie so released him Things then went quiet so went in search off new ground out a bit deep between 15-20m we picked up a sambo and a shark released boat side Headed back to the shallows things were quiet then me uncle hooks somethen taken a bit off line but gained back up pops a dhuie 890 was getting on by now my stomach was calling out for food. Next thing the other uncle is on to another dhuie. So we headed back in so for the wkend we boated 10 dhuies 4 black ass (kept 2 ) a sambo and a fair few undesirables for a total off 25km travels can't beat that
