Mercruiser alarm
Submitted by davewillo on Tue, 2022-08-23 11:42Hi all
I've got a Searay with a Mercruiser Bravo 3 leg. A while back I had an alarm go off because the power steering pump reservoir was empty. That's been filled up and the problem went away but the alarm has started going off again. The reservoir is filled to the correct level so I can't figure out why it's going off. If there was an airlock then why did it stop for quite a while? I can get my mechanic to look at it but thought I'd see if there was a simple fix first.

wobble Rollers
Submitted by deltadreams on Sat, 2022-08-06 10:19I have to change my rollers but I am getting conflicting information. I have a Dunbier trailer which has ribbed grey rollers [they have gone tacky]
I am wondering if the smooth rollers are better for a Glass boat than ribbed, and are red rollers better than blue, a couple of suppliers say smooth while others say ribbed. Just wondering which are better.
Thanks in advance

Suzuki 70 4 stroke - Intermittent problem
Submitted by aussiejoe on Sat, 2022-06-25 18:29One of my twin Suzy 70's has an intermittent issue and I am hoping someone can point me i- and the agents - in the right direction.
Today the motor started and ran well initially - freo to Rotto including the the odd drift when the motor was off. After a couple of drifts the motor refused to even turn over - sugesting no power or faulty neutral switch. So lifted the motor out of the water and started the limp back on one motor. After about 30 mins tried the motor again and this time it turned over, started and ran at 4000rpm for about 30 seconds before cutting out and once again not even turning over. This happened again after another 30 mins. After about 90 mins tried it again. All good running at 4000rpm loops off the sailing club for 15 mins.
Much the same happened the previous trip. Took it to the Suzuki agents who changed the fuel pressure valve and tested it in a tank without error. Clearly this did not adress the real issue. Internittent issues can be difficult so no issue with the agents.
Any ideas as to what may be causing these symptons?

Mounting a bilge pump in an ali boat
Submitted by Budge on Thu, 2022-05-26 21:55Hi guys, i have a plate ali boat and want to fit a bilge pump in it. Would anyone have any tips or share how they have fixed a bilge pump to their ali hulls? I do see the that bilge strainer that clips off the pump has mounting screw holes underneath it but that would be to fix to glass and obviously don't wanna screw into my hull.
Pretty sure I'm gonna have to make up a bracket of some kind to keep it up upright and secure at the back of my boat. Be interesting to hear what has worked for fellow members.

Yamaha Engine Information on Simrad
Submitted by Piggy on Thu, 2022-05-05 14:10Fishos
I have a Yamaha 200 wih the older command link square guages and I want to get the engine information on my Simrad NNS12. Ive read a few forums and seems to be alot of opinions as to what is needed to get the information to the Simrad. Has anyone done this with this engine / sounder configuration. Is it as simple as getting a Yamaha to Simrad interface cabel and connecting it from the hub to the sounder?
Anyone who knows this kinda stuff I would be interested to pick your brain

Sailfish Canyon Master v S8 Model
Submitted by Laurie49 on Tue, 2022-05-03 19:04Hi Folks, I'm in the process of finalising the purchase a new 8 M Sailfish cat. I am considering the option of purchasing either a Canyon Master (open cockpit layout) or an S8 (bi fold doors between the cock pit area and the cabin). The CM is 300mm longer in the hull than the S8. Other than the obvious openness of the Canyon Master, some advice has been offered that the bi fold doors bulkhead assembly creates some restriction to viewing the sonar and chart plotters while fishing in the cockpit. And can be a bit claustrophobic in hot summer climates. Given the boat will spend the bulk of its time in Exmouth, having a close able cabin to shelter from cold and inclement southern type weather is not really an issue. Also, lockable cabin security is not an issue as the boat will be on my jetty whilst being used and in a lockable garage when not being used. I know there are a number of Sailfish boats regularly in Exmouth and a number in the Bunbury/South West from U tube videos. Have any members faced this similar situation? I believe that either option will deliver a great outcome, but I'd welcome any advice on the pros and cons of each particular option before making a commitment. With Thanks

Power tilt and trim
Submitted by Bloggsy on Tue, 2022-05-03 14:25I would like to buy a Suzuki 15 hp outboard short shaft with electric start and power tilt and trim but my enquires to dealers have all said that power tilt and trim is not available on the 15 hp short shaft.
However on Suzuki Australia website it lists the DF15ATH as having power tilt and trim as an option. So before I go back to the dealers can any one tell me if it is available on the short shaft?
A number of portable models are now available with a power tilt system that provides smooth tilting of the outboard. The system offers greater convenience and improved easier operation.
Available on DF20AT, DF9.9BT, DF20ATH and DF15ATH.

boat insurance
Submitted by rac on Wed, 2022-04-06 11:59
any good or bad experiences with boat insurers, or just shop around for best price?
i've noticed some insurers do not insure verge parking and others do, which is important for me and might narrow down the options a bit.

Fitting a charge rectifier/regulator to a 30hp Johnson 2000 model
Submitted by trout1105 on Wed, 2022-03-30 07:56I have an older Johson 30Hp outboard that I need to fit a voltage regulato/rectifier to so that it can charge a battery to run the bilge pump, sounder etc.
The engine does have a charging coil fitted But instead of just 2 yellow wires coming out of it like on the Yamaha engines this one has 3 wires, 2x yellow and a yellow/blue wire.
Anyone here know which wires go where , I am assuming that the 2x yellow wires are for the AC current But the yellow/blue wire has me stumped.

Pivot tube repair
Submitted by Bradmac73 on Fri, 2022-03-18 14:09
G'day all,
The steering on my boat has become increasingly stiff. Thought it was the cable so serviced that only to realise it's some corrosion in the pivot tube that's causing the issue. Can't seem to find a marine mechanic who is interested in fixing this for some reason, so it's gonna be a DIY.
Anyone on here ever attempted this and have any pointers or traps for a novice I should be aware of? From what I can find so far on the trusty google looks like a complete strip down, leg off, power head off and then onto cleaning up the pivot tube.
Appreciate any advice, even if the sage advice is "don't f******g do it"
Motor is a 75hp Merc 2 banger

Yamaha 100 600 hours loosing power
Submitted by grahaml on Sun, 2022-03-13 07:18Hoping some one can help with my engine fault
traveling out to the 70s last week and I lost power while at half throttle one gauge blacked out and the tachometer numbers went hay wire on the other gauge
i returned the motor to idle and all returned to normal.had a look around and couldn't see anything wrong.put the throttle back into gear and throttled up at around 2500 the engine started to shake and miss and lost power and the gauges did the same thing again one blacked out and the tachometer went haywire.return to idle all good again
i did notice before the gauge blacked out that the battery voltage dropped to 8 volts when under revs but returned to 14.6 at idle
i swapped the battery's over and tried again and all was good.Reset the batteries to the original position and could get the fault back
turned and headed in and the fault never returned
what's my next steps as the faults not there now and I don't want to head out thinking I may get stranded
cheers for any sugestions

Long or short
Submitted by Bloggsy on Mon, 2022-02-21 07:04I have a Polycraft Tuffy fitted with a Parsun 9.8 hp short shaft (don't judge me it came with the boat) but I am finding it a bit hard on the back without power tilt and trim. So I thought that I would look for a 15 hp (maximum rate allowed) with electric start & power tilt & trim in a short shaft but all of the main manufacturer's only seem to make electric start & tilt & trim in their long shaft motors. So I have been toying with the idea of fitting a jack plate to lift the long shaft motor up.
Any way I did some measurements and I always thought that to have a short shaft your transom height from top of transom to lowest part of hull should be 15" but mine measures almost 18" The Parsun cavitation plate lines up with the bottom of the hull but from the cavitation plate 15" comes to the top mounting bolt hole again I thought that you measured from the cavitation plate to where the mounting bracket sits on the transom.
So are the Parsuns short motor actually longer that the standard 15"?
The present set up seems to cavitate under certain running conditions.
Any way I guess my question is would a long shaft Suzuki/Yamaha be suitable for my boat and if necessary I am happy to fit an adjustable jack plate to raise up that extra 2" approximately. or if anyone knows of a short shat 4 stroke 15 hp outboard with electric start and power tilt & trim can you please let me know.
Transducer - No good - fix - machined
Submitted by Bryce Day on Mon, 2022-02-14 18:50Design fail. Leading edge good trailing edge no good. Will keep transom side pointed to gunwail.

Trailer brake hydraulic actuator
Submitted by Josh on Sat, 2022-02-12 19:59Does anyone have a serviceable electronic hydraulic trailer brake actuator for a trailer in their shed?
I just picked my boat up from insurance (salvage buy back) and the actuator pump is seized.
I'm planning to tow it back to Albany from Perth tomorrow, and have spent the day trying to rebuild the actuator with no luck.
Long shot, but I thought I would pose the question.
