Exmouh 2013 july
Submitted by EL SYD on Fri, 2013-07-12 06:32Finally made it down here from a road trip from Darwin.
After a bit of fluffing around from work and interviews causing a delay to my trip. the missus and I gave the landbased thing a go, with little results with only some cods and a few bust offs on the big stiks casting pencils,
The wind has been blowing its ring out for the first few days, making the lighthouse beaches the pick of my LB options as I hate casting into the wind.
Being a late start to the trip, my Charter days with Eddy from Peak sports fishing quickly popped up and guest to my wedding started coming into town, you would think they were only here to go fishing with Eddy, and not my wedding.
Anyhow here are some quick picks as I still have to get photos from others, so will post more later.
cheers syd

camping south of Yardie Creek
Submitted by Texas on Sun, 2013-05-19 17:21I'm planning a trip up to Exmouth in July. Can ayone tell me if there is free camping near the beach south of Yardie Creek. It's been a long time since I was up that way. Last time we found a great spot just behind the dunes south of the creek outside Cape Range National Park. Would like to go there again but not sure if you're still allowed to free camp in that area.

Would love to hear from those who have done it before in regards to thefollowing
Boat and outboard/s
fuel capacity
fuel used
Launch site

trip duration
best time of year
Any other relevant info

Gear info needed
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2013-05-07 09:56not too sure what you would call them but they could be described as condoms for the rod butt.
seen these on a couple of fioshing shows . they look like heavy duty foam devices that slide up over the rod butt to make it more comfortable when you dont have a gymbal belt.
i would like to know the name of them and where i could get them.
thanks

Hyden, Esperance & Albany
Submitted by r.gates on Wed, 2013-04-24 21:21Hi all
After holidaying for a week in Coral Bay last year, my penance this year was to take mrs gates 'down south' for holidays...no boats allowed. The plan was 2 nights at Hyden, 9 nights at Esperance and then 2 nights in Albany.
With the car packed, we hit the road at 9.30am Saturday morning and after catching up with some friends in Pingelly, we arrived in Hyden at 5pm. Had a quiet night in our self contained chalet on the lake's edge at Wave Rock Resort.
On Sunday morning we hit the walking trails and found Hippo's Yawn, then wound our way across the rocky outcrops until we were overlooking the Hyden golf course, then around the corner to find ourselves standing on top of 'the rock'.
The photos of Wave Rock don't do it justice....it is a magnificent, awe-inspiring rock formation. If you haven't yet seen it 'in the flesh', put it on your bucket list!
After lunch, we drove over to The Humps and Mulka's Cave. There's some very interesting history behind the cave, and worth checking out. The trail up and around The Humps gives a great view of the surrounding countryside..
Monday morning we hit the road for Esperance, stopping off at Hopetoun for lunch. We took the Southern Ocean Drive and called into places like Mason's Bay and Starvation Bay....fantastic coastline. We arrived in Esperance around 4.30pm and took up residence in our self contained en-suite cabin at Seafront c/park.
Been doing the usual touristy things...spent today at Cape Le Grand national park. We trekked to the summit of Frenchman's Peak...the brochure says 1.5hr 'hard walk', it was all of that, but accomplished without incident. The view from the top reinforces Esperance's tag of 'the bay of isles'. You get a real appeciation for the south coast.
Spent a few hours on the beach at Lucky Bay....had lunch, a swim and a fish. The sand is the whitest of white and squeaks under foot...a wonderful bay, no wonder so many people rave over the place. It's another place to add to your bucket list.
So far, the weather has been fine and sunny, mid 20s during the day...took the kayaks for a spin yesterday and also managed 9 holes in the arvo!
Below are some photos of the holiday so far.
regards
rusty...

Cape Range National Park - Beach Launching a 5.25 Runabout
Submitted by Pavers66 on Mon, 2013-04-22 21:27Hi all,
I'm planning a trip up to Cape Range NP and want to find out about beach launching from the various camp grounds. I've found lots of people who have launched boats around the 4m mark but would like to hear from anyone who has launched boats around 5.3m (aluminium). Would prefer to stay and launch in the park rather than launching at Tantabiddi.
Also any tips for beach launching - I've only launched once off a beach and that was hard sand and a quick drop off so relatively easy. I guess things change with soft sand, shallow water and onshore winds. I plan to get a bit more experience (and make sure my deckie is up to speed) locally around Perth before my trip and was planning on fitting a "drop down" spare wheel to assist with launching - whats ya thoughts.
Cheers.

Abrolhos over Easter, general pics
Submitted by Rob H on Tue, 2013-04-16 18:24this will probably more of general interest as we spent most of the time just cruising and getting checked by Fisheries rather than actually fishing!
We took a bit of a run over to the islands at Easter, just me and the kids and left on Friday morning. Didnt catch Paul and Outdoinit at the jetty as I was pretty busy getting sorted and we waited an hour or 2 until the easterly dropped.
Headed straight for the Easter group this time, 40 something miles.
Spent 4 days just plodding round exploring, swimming, spearing a feed and looking at nice anchorages.
Had a quick yarn on the VHF to Paul but they were about 20 miles away.
Havent found how to get stills from the gopro movies yet though, plus my first editing attempt coincided with Paul G's last movie and I thought "no way am i putting up my attempt"!
on Easter sunday the easter bunny paid a visit, but he wasnt game to hide all 5 easter bunny cholocates on the shore in case the crabs devoured them.
So he only left 3 on the beach and 2 onboard somehow :-)
We crossed to the Southern Group for the last day to catch up with some friends at their camp and a little socialising.
Girls were pretty happy to have a BUCKET shower as opposed to my little electric one that will give us all a wash off with 6 or 7 litres
Kids watchin a movie in the cabin, keeps them out of my hair when living aboard (as opposed to on a jetty) and cooking dinner
_0.jpg)
on the last morning at a mates jetty, the two boys were up first while I was still swaggin it. Mac comes running back "dad dad theres a squid under the jetty over there can you put a squid jig on my rod"
Yawn, yeah whatever, crawl out, tie it on wander over. Mac lowers the jig down, squid grabs it and he lifts it up onto the jetty in 10 seconds.
I could see his mind tickin over thinking about all the times we chucked a jig around for nothing and thinkin "yeah dad, you know jack++t about squiding dont ya"!

Newbie advice for abrohlos trip
Submitted by field on Mon, 2013-04-08 14:39Hi Guys
we want to take a 80ft mothership up and park it in a nice sheltered lagoon assuming such exists and bascially leave it there for 2 weeks and use trailer boats to explore and fish
can anybody suggest the best spot to moor up that is close to places of interest? were thinking the most southerly group Pelsart seems has the best layout. Are there any in situ moorings there that could be used? None of us have been there before, planning on leaving in early May
many thanks for any suggestions dave
