Holidays - Fishing Trips

So where's your destination?

Abrolhos trip

Headed over last wednesday for a few days, taking a couple of my kids.

We didnt do alot of fishing this time though we chucked the pots in and bagged out pretty well straight away, and did a bit of trolling for trout close to the island.

Got dhuies, painted sweetlip (I like my neighbours so let them go :-) sweetlip, trout (not quite size) and shark mackeral.

Trip was mainly to do a bit of exploring and catch up with my old boss over there. Plus the kids just have a blast!

mmm-who should I give this to???

this "adventuring business" is hard yakka!

kid sized trout

Trip home was a bit messy, we were going to stay til saturday but as we had to be home midmorning and a strong easterly was forecast, at the last minute on friday arvo we decided to take off.

We got a third of the way back, 12 knt SE so stopped for a fish. By the time we got going again, it was "hello 25kt S/SE"!

Kids handled it fine as always though and we rolled into Hells Gates at 5pm.

New underwater hotel for Dubai!

A new $120 million hotel with all rooms having full window viewing to the surrounding seas sounds like an interesting place to stay when its all completed!!

I wonder if they'll allow fishing from the upper decks?

Onslow This Weekend

Been wanting to head down to Onslow for ages but never got around to it.

I was planning on heading to the Monties again this weekend but my deckie couldn't get the Monday off and I didn't want to head over for just two days so I booked into Onslow for two days fishing.

Touch wood the weather looks like it is going to come to the party and be better in Onslow than Karratha plus my two oldest boys (7 & 5) are excited and keen to come. Hopefully we'll get some good fish to make a trip report worth while.

Coral Bay To Exmouth

Planning to do a boat trip from Coral Bay to Exmouth next April in one 4.5m 60 yam 4 stroke side console and one 5m 90 hond 4 stroke centtre console.

Will be mainly top water fishing inside lagoon and reefs edge with some trawling thrown in for good measure.

Total distance is around 140nm which we are going to do over seven or eight days.

Has anyone done this trip before and have any sugestions or advise please.

Abrolhos Islands fishing trip

Hey fellow fishos

Thought I'd put a post up on a recent fishing trip to the Abrolhos Islands I recently had with some good mates a couple of weeks ago.

Eight of us were fortunate to spend 6 nights aboard the charter vessel Blue Lightning Charters skippered by Chad Mills.
All of us were first time fishos to the Abrolhos and came away suitably impressed!!

Can honestly say Chad knows his stuff and his experience and knowledge extends far beyond his young age.
An example being that whilst we were over at the islands there happened to be a gamefishing tournament being run at the same time.
One boat had been trolling for 3 days solid without raising a fish. Our group decided on the 4th day to do some billfish trolling and in 4 hours of trolling we raised 4 marlin, hooked up to 2 and landed a nice dolphinfish (pics attached) with the 1st marlin strike within 14 mins of starting to troll....
....Pretty impressive stuff watching marlin getting their bodies airborne.

We had a mixture of jiggers and conventional baitfishers on board, with this being for me personally first time jigging!!
A big thanks also go to Ryan and Blake at Oceanside Tackle for helping kit myself out with my first jigging outfit.
Jigging Master Titanium Evolution 150 matched to Shimano Stradic 5000FJ spooled with YGK PE2 30lb braid (Top outfit guys....Bloody excellent actually!!)
I actually purchased a Daiwa Saltiga 4500 matched to a Saltiga 62S rod for the trip also which in itself is a great outfit but it never got anywhere near the use that the Jigging Master got!!!! Perfectly balanced and jigged 2 days solid without any issues whatsoever!!

Species caught;
Coral Trout
Baldies of course!!
Pink Snapper
Dhufish
Samson Fish
Spangled Emperor
Red Throat Emperor
Red Emperor
Charlie Courts
Dolphinfish
Shark Mackeral

The weather gods were good to us and we came home bagged out!!!!
Can thoroughly recommend the Abrolhos Islands with Chad and Blue Lightning as he knows his stuff and the boat and crew did a fantastic job keeping us well fed and on productive fishing grounds.

Notable highlights include;

Double header of coral trout on a pirate jig with the Jigging Master outfit (I'm bragging now....72cm and 69cm!!!)
2 nice dhuies caught on the same drop
1.2M + dolphinfish
81cm or 82cm (depending on who measured it) Spangled Emperor
Half decent Sambo!

All in all a great trip with some pics below guys...
Cheers....

Kimberley Bound

Sitting here buzzing think about the trip I'm heading off on Tomorrow. I'm doing another trip like last years but this time weare going a bit futher. Leaving Derby heading to the horizontal waterfalls spending about 11 days living on the boat

Looking forward to that time were we are motoring away from Derby boat ramp and heading north. All the organising etc takes its toll but as I open up the throttle as we leave my head will clear and the smile will appear.

Its amazing how much gear you need for a trip like this.

Anyway, I'll be back in a couple of weeks with some stories to tell!!

Check out last year trip

coral bay

Hi there, brand new to this forum but I wish i'd found it 6yrs ago when we first got here. I'm still getting used to the change from freshwater river and lake fishing, tackle, methods, tides ,weather, species and i'm still not sure if i'm doing the right thing or in the reading the water properly most of the time.

Anyway we just got ourselves a new camper trailer and decided to head farther afield for our next holiday (Kalbarri and Hopetoun being the farthest up to now) so we have booked Coral Bay for this October.

I've read the shore based fishing is mainly lure fishing but I was wondering what type of lure, pattern would be the best? I prefer hard bodied purely for the adrenalin factor involved  but should I be stocking up on slices, soft plastics or any other type? Also what size line/leader should I be looking ? Last of all what species will we come across?

Sorry for so many questions but am absolutely buzzing at the thought of chucking a line in up there.

Cheers

Tuna possibilities ?

In April will venturing to the Abrohlos on a charter 1st time.

I would love to catch new species for myself and only just realised that tuna maybe an option. Is that possible ?

If so will halco 190's work as that is about it for surface lures in my kit at present?

For you fellas that know does baldchin groper keep well frozen , having not tasted much southern fish i would like to know the  preferred fish to keep on this type of trip. EG pink snapper dhuie or whatever ? Fillets only i have to travel by air.

!0 kgs is maximum allowed and fair enough, at $ 250 per kilo i would like to take at least a taste home.

Cape Peron / Herald Bight / Monkey Mia

Heading up to Herald Bight in May, taking the boat (5m Ali CC).
Called the DEC and they gave me mixed answers on towing through the National Park.

Has anyone been there before? Is it feasible to tow a 5m Ali with a pretty competent Hilux also is the beach firm enough to Beach Launch?

The other options are launch at M Mia and boat 40+kms to our campsite, etc etc.

Any fishing tips for the area?

DECEMBER TRIP TO S.A

 Hi gents,

Id like some advice and tips for my fishing trip I'm planning in December this year

Im heading off early December from kalgoorlie, boat in tow and I plan to fish the peninsula of south aust. I have fished Ceduna before but I'm after more than king George.

I was thinking about three nights in Streaky Bay, three in Port Lincoln and three in Whyalla. If you have advice on these spots or recommendations for alternate spots please chip in.
I plan to go back to my home town (Warracknabeal) to drop off the old man and then off to Portland for a week.
On my return trip to Kalgoorlie I may spend some time in Ceduna before heading home on the 13th janurary.
So if you've fished here at that time of year let me know thanks.
I'll be adding updates to the trips progress as well as photos and a video of the trip. Between now and then I have to find a suitable boat, 5.8 - 6.1m it's a toss up between GENESIS, TRAILCRAFT and HELLFIRE. Must have a yammy.
Thanks

fishing couple May /June

My wife and I will be on holiday in Exmouth mid May /June. My brother can only come for five weeks, and if theirs another couple on holidays at exmouth around this time, that might like a once in life time fishing trip off Nigaloo/ Exmouth. 6m Platey, New Yamaha four stroke, all safety gear with 35 years out side sporft fishing. Talk to partner first as we don't want to cause any friction in your lives! Non smokers only period!

Cheers, Jim & Eunice

Exmouth Aibt Accom Available.

Had a few crew time off issues so we have some shared accom available for exmouth over aibt. We have a house booked from 16th to 23rd of march and room for 3 adults. I know accom is very tight this time of year so this may be able to help somebody keen on getting amongst the comp at late notice.

Hawaii

 Hey guys

Esperance

Gday Fellas and a few Ladies,

Having recently made what some may call a tragic decision to move from my home of ten years in Exmouth to the Desert climes of Boon....Ahh Kalgoorlie I'm beginning to display classic beachy bluewater withdrawl symptoms re; finding exmouth beach sand in my running shoes and letting the grains fall through my hands whilst staring into the bottom of the engel at the last few remaining cryo vacced peices of bluey and tea-rout.

Therefore it's time I headed off to Esperance next  weekend to check out what this southern stretch of wind blown coast has to offer.  The forecast is telling me its going to be a balmy 27 degrees so I might have to pack the 7 mil budgie smugglers.

What I need from people who have had a look down this way is to find out where I can get the hilux onto the beach to find my own stretch of sand, fishing is not a priority this time round as I've been well spoilt in that department over the years.  I'll probably take a light flick stick and have a play with a few of the local bread and butter species.  I'm not looking for any heavy four wheel driving, just a short run without too much need for shovel work!!

If anyone has anything to inspire me or feels like imparting some small tidbit to start my esperance discoveries it would be appreciated.

From the Desert.

Merman.

favourite camping grounds

hey guys im thinking of taking the missus camping next weekend down south and was after what you guys would recommend?? somewhere quiet with the chance of some fishing?

i was thinking maybe the warren river or somewhere along the coast! needs to be within 4 to six hours from mandurah

thanks in advance for your help!

Exmouth Charters (again?)

I've tried using the search several times, but it just keeps on loading..

So yeah, I'm heading down to Exmouth mid-march and I'd like to get on a charter for a day, I've looked at on strike and blue horizon, they both look pretty good.

Is there any other good ones out there? Any ones I should avoid?

Just looking to have some fun spinning for pelagics and maybe spend a couple of hours bottom bashing..

Cheers guys.

Trip limit question

3 of us are heading north for a couple of weeks but one has to fly back a few days early . Can we bring his 20kilo of fish back with us in the car ? assuming we all catch our limit , we could have 60kilo of fish and only 2 people in the car .

Have looked on the fisheries website but cant find anything covering this situation .

Montebellos trip

Now that we have a bigger boat,  we can take 8 people on our 6 day live aboard to the Montebellos departing from Exmouth.  Hence we now have 2 spaces available on a trip departing Sunday 18 March,  anyone interested email MahiMahi1@bigpond.com for more details.

Bent Pin Denham

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me where and what the bent pin is, I have read about it but cant find any referance on the charts

Cheers

Camzak

Coral Bay

I am heading up to Coral Bay in the next week or so and tried to book a charter through Mahi Mahi or Sea Force. Unfortunately they are closed for off season.

Would there be any charters running or alternatives that anyone would know about? Thanks :)

Canada - Places to go?

Hello all, I am going to Canada for a 5 month working holiday from early April.  We will be based around Ontario for the first 5-6 weeks hopefully working, then we have a wedding and will head across country without any set plans at the moment.

Can anyone suggest some places to go and see, things to do? Can be fishing or other touristy stuff also.

I think we are going to get tickets to the Mapleleafs home game the night after we land in Toronto to get things rolling. Should be good!

Cheaper Kimberley Fishing Cruises

 Hi Guys

There has got to be a market for a cut-price Kimberley Fishing Cruise charter.

For guys like me with short arms and long pockets, who dont mind roughing it a bit, swag on the deck, tent on the beach, doing their share of the cooking/cleaning etc.

Two or Three hundred dollars a day instead of seven or eight hundred. Less luxury, just as much fun.

If you know of anyone - please drop me a line.

Keen on getting 6 or 8 blokes away in the next year or so.

cheers

Blitto
