Stock Yard Gully Caves
Submitted by Buz on Sun, 2011-07-10 20:50Hi all, just wondering if anyone has ever been to Stock Yard Gully Caves inland of Green Head before.
I have a heaps of pics and information about it i got off the net, but just wondering what the track in is like from personal experiences?
The info i got says its 4x4 only and its sandy for about 4km from where the gravel ends. Doesnt say anything about letting tyres down. Just wanted to know if i could tow my little tinnie in there with my 4x4?(on the way back from Geraldton).
I am guessing people have towed camper trailers in there?????? Just want to see if its worth the effort of checking them out, with having the trailer in tow as a restriction. My tinnie trailer is quiet heavy duty and i have taken it on some extremely mean sandy/muddy tracks before without incident.
Alternatively if i cant take the trailer in, anyone live in Green Head and willing to babysit a Tinnie and Trailer for a few hours?
Thanks, Buz.

Abrolhos Trip
Submitted by Bodie on Thu, 2011-07-07 13:44Made the decision am going to do Abrolhos this year, before the 2 month fishing closure.
Plan is for either 21st-25th Sept or 5th-10th October.
Anyone know what its like out that way that time of year. The trip will be completely weather dependant.
Planning on atleast 2 boats going over, but not been able to findanyone or we dont know anyone who has a shack over there i could possibly use, so for now we will be staying on the boats.
As it will be our first trip, can anyone recommend which group would be more suited given it is our first trip? Likely the northern group is out of the question given the distance and the amount of fuel we would have to carry. Info like which bays have moorings, and would be good to stay the night given the time of year we are going (winds, swell etc).
If i understand correctly your allowed on some of the islands for a visit during the day?
From a fishing perspective, could we expect any pelagic action that time of year, with the cooler waters?
Obviously we will chase the usuals, dhus, pinks, trout, baldies etc. and will check all the exclusion zones before we leave.
Cheers

Jurien beach Shack
Submitted by redrocket on Tue, 2011-07-05 12:29Hi All,
Well after 6 years of renovating my Jurien fishing shack it is finnally finnished. Unfortunately for me circumstances have changed and I am now going to place it on the market (new project). If anyone is looking for a jurien house to use as a base to launch some serious fishing assualts you have a limited opportunity to cut the real estate agent out of the picture. I am chasing 435K and will let it go here at 425K cutting out the agent. Will be listing with agent next week so u dont have much time. Pm me if you are a genuine buyer.
Cheers

Tahiti Fishing report
Submitted by crasny1 on Sat, 2011-06-25 09:37In one word --- FCUKed.
But a magnificent spot to visit and the seafood was sensational. For those that love Raw fish, marinated in lemon or lime juice you just have to try:
Poisson Cru
Ingredients (for six people)
- 500 grams fresh tuna
- 2 tomatoes
- 2 green limes
- 1 onion
- coconut cream
- parsley
- green onions or chives
- salt, pepper
Cut the fish into small cubes and soak in salted water for 5 minutes
In a salad bowl, mix the sliced tomatoes, the finely sliced onion, the snipped green onion and the chopped parsley
Add the lime juice, salt and pepper, and let it soak for a few minutes. Fold in the drained fish cubes.
Mix all the ingredients together well.
Just before serving, add the coconut milk (once the coconut cream has been added, do not put the poisson cru into the refrigerator).
Man I must have eaten it almost every meal. Devine!!!
Cheers

Submitted by frizza on Fri, 2011-06-17 21:57not sure how many days we ran the camp oven for? - if ever you want a shade stucture to last this is the design for you, it never let us down - 30 to 50 knots rain it never faulted.
Pilbra Pirates some time later
Submitted by frizza on Fri, 2011-06-17 21:15These next few are from mid trip where we were forced to stay indoors and relax as the wind and the rain belted down destroying tents and near on blowing us off the island - we were saved by a deck of cards and a shit load of cold piss - i would like to take this moment to thank my yuka partner Heath that helped me flog the 2 drunken Pirates we were playing against (Thats how i remember it anyway).

Thelma & Louise - Outback Adventure
Submitted by Helen on Tue, 2011-06-14 13:01Thelma & Louise - Outback Adventure
Friday 24 June 2011 > Sunday 26th June 2011
So here we have it... It is happening...
Trudy and I have agreed we want to get out there ASAP and are heading out next weekend. We are aiming on somewhere around Busselton way. Just got to search for the appropriate camp site. This could be quite funny. Everyone is welcome to tag along, so tell your friends. If you have any ideas of a good spot we would love to hear it. Somewhere that allows camp fires would be pretty sweet. Ideally we would like to stay close to the beach if possible, so if you are a guru on the area we would love to hear from you. We would also consider heading north, but would rather travel not take much more than 3-4 hours.
Get out the gear... Roll out the swag... It is on and it is gonna be messy!

New Caledonia - The Chesterfields....trip of a lifetime
Submitted by seansurfy on Sat, 2011-05-28 11:56Looking for expressions of interest
I'm looking to put together a small group of guys for a trip of a lifetime to the Chesterfields reefs off New Caledonia in July/August 2012.
The Chesterfields - A New Caledonian territory, around 600km west of the northern tip of New Caledonia, sit right in the piscatorial passage joining Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with the South Pacific islands. The Chesterfield Islands are an uninhabited group of atolls, coral reefs and underwater sea mounts home to some of the most extreme surface popping and vertical jigging on the planet.
The few anglers that have ventured to this isolated fishery have returned with reports of huge schools of yellowfin tuna, XOS GTs and dogtooth tuna they just couldn’t stop. Dogtooth tuna over 90kg that have never come across a lure (let alone any jigs), and hordes of aggressive GTs that have never seen a popper or stickbait!
This is planned as a 14 day expedition starting from Noumea to The Chesterfields and back to Noumea, which gives us around 9 or 10 days at the Chesterfields, exploring all options but targeting the Giant Doggies and GT'S that live there, along with some trolling for Marlin, Yellowfin and Mahimah, etc....
I'm looking for a group of 5 anglers(myself included)...so that leaves 4 spots.
The boat is a beautiful 55ft Salthouse sportfisher that has jig, popping and game gear onboard on a lose it pay for replacement basis, but we are more than welcome to bring our own specialist gear.
There will be two skippers on board at all times who have previously chartered this boat to The Chesterfileds. They are very experienced and highly regarded.
Departure is from Noumea and return to Noumea.
Let me know if you might be interested.......you only live once!!!!
Please send me a PM for more info and costs

Steep Point - Mid June
Submitted by Watto75 on Mon, 2011-05-16 23:44Hey guys,
I'm heading to Steep Point for a week mid June. We will be towing in my 5.0M Ali and I plan to mainly fish from the boat but no doubt we'll have a crack from the cliffs as well. A few years ago I fished the bay in a small very basic dingy with no electronics etc and we generally did okay howeve this time around I will have a lot more range, sounder and Lowrance GPS with Gold card.
I'm not chasing GPS Co-ords or anything but any info to point us in the right direction would be appreciated, after all I can only carry so much fuel in with me.
Thanks Watto

Exmouth 2011
Submitted by Paul G on Mon, 2011-04-18 13:01We have finally arrived home from a great trip to Exmouth .Left on 5th of April for the long drive through the night .I can tell you 14 hours and I was thinking this could be my last trip to Exmouth .Blew one tyre on the trailer outside Carnarvon and lost the anchor yanker on the road somewhere ,but hell we got there in one piece .We unpacked and made ready for the following day out on the water .The morning came and we were on the ramp at first light with flat seas we were buzzing to get into some fish .We mixed it up with a little trolling and some bottom bashing Jody got her first Billie of around 40kg and we lost it at the boat .But we will claim it as a capture as I had its bill in my hands .The hook was through the bill but was too close to my hand to take the chance on get it through my hand so I pushed it away . The thing went crazy jumping into the side of the boat twice and thrashing around like a mad man. It then shot under the boat and with a lake in concentration was lost due to gear failure [high stick rod].We then hit some bottom fish .with a number of different species caught .I cannot remember each day as it was but we had some memorable days .The best fish wise was 18 good solid fish with ranking, spangled emperor, reds, long nose .and lost as many to the gray coats. I Had a great fight with a big marlin for two hours on 15kg gear before busting of ,which was a piss of but I had no chance as we got it under the boat twice and it was as long as the boat .BIG FISH. We snorkelled with a whale shark for some time before sharks started coming for a look see. Didn’t get any Macs and only heard of a hand full getting caught .Tuna were good fun getting onto a couple of good schools lat one arvo, most were 6kg or bigger and on light gear were good fun .Had a dive in the no fish zone at the islands 20m.some good Rankin cod and a big long nose with heaps of other small fish on the lump. Young Kye, Jesses mate won the prize for the biggest Rankin [8.5kg] in the FW comp .We did one night fish for a few hours and some good fish were caught Red Bass , Rankin and spangled Emperor. The last morning we hit the water to catch to high tide .got to the small edge half hour before high to see no fish on the sounder but things changed within 15 minutes fish were all over the edge and we were into reds and Rankin with some big ones being dropped. Jody got a nice one around 6kg. I got the nickname the honeycomb cod king as while the others were pulling in good fish I was cleaning up on these pasty little pricks. But I did get a nice Coral trout the day before on a plastic around 6kg.Tryed knocking myself out with the rod when my braid snapped for no reason while under strain .MMMMM not funny .It has taken a few years to work things out but it is all coming together so we eagerly await next year’s trip. Thanks Adam for a great night and to all the people cooking and making the night a good one .good to have a chat to some of the members i have not had a chance to meet.
