Anchor snapped when we were asleep, no wind so we silently drifted towards the cliffs and a big wave at the perfect time washed the boat up onto the reef.
How does that happen to a professional skipper? We all need to sleep sometime, and, if you ever feel the need to be sleep deprived, try fishing for a living. Yes, there are anchor alarms you can set on pretty well any GPS, but if you have ever tried to use one, you know why people don't use them. Unless you set them for a very wide radius, which would be useless when you are anchoring in relatively close proximity to land/island, they will wake you every time the fix goes for a walk, which is probably more often than you realise.
Been there, done that. Anchoring close to land, unless on an established mooring, is always a worry, and anchoring way out to sea, you only have to worry about getting run over by a ship.
We get a few types of tuna out there, yellowfin to about 20kg, longtail to about 12kg usually 8 - 10, mackerel tuna upto about 10kg and these small ones i think northern bluefin or something which are smaĺl 2 - 4kg. We got $3 - $6 for the longtails and macks and a bit more for the yellowfin and blues. One boat here was claiming he was getting $36 a kg for the blues. We are allowed to keep 9 per trip 2 of which can be yellowfin.

Its always sad to hear or see
Its always sad to hear or see a boat on the rocks, more so when its a pro boat due to the loss of income.
Did some time with West coast fishing a long time ago, fish long hours and sleep when you can.
Good to hear everones ok, any idea on when or if the owner will get a new one?
More drum lines, kill the bloody sharks!
