Need more pics

Hi Crew,
Were running a bit short of quality for this month's photo comp, it doesn't have to be the most recent capture, just a good photo of a nice solid fish. Theres been a few good entries so far, but it would be nice to add some more to make it a more even competition.
It would also be good to get some more new pics rolling through the latest images.
Cheers,
Adam

Who are the entrants so far?
This is a shot someone else gave me of my dhuie. Im really pissed off now that I didnt take the time to get a shot of the fish out on the marlin board in good light. I was pumped, and also struggleing to hold it cleanly and I wasnt thinking of POTM at the time:/

land based?
Would love to see some land based entries, or possibly even a seperate competition (hard to compete with some of the off shore pics)?
That way there might be a bit more action in the land based forum (except jack dawson would take it out every month lol) and a bit of inspiration to take some nice pics land based! Even decent mullas aren't that impressive compared to what happens off shore, although a massive land based shark would impress me more but thats me lol...
Just food for thought, always enjoy checking out the POTM competition!

Size shouldn't matter
Surely photo of the month should be the photo of the month not the biggest fish of the month. Something that you would be happy looking at on the front cover of a magazine.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Agree Soupy
its misleading to call it photo of the month when its clearly fish of month. The quality of the photo has very little to do with it recently.

Nothing Special
Yea I know its not that fancy but i was stoked to get one after chasing and failing on tryin to find one for about 6months. Its my first and only shovelnose caught. Took about half hour to land, tasted great and fought nicely. Shared fillets with about 6 people.
I dont have a boat so yeah, nothing special lol.

Black banded Kingfish
I got 2 of these a couple of weeks ago - thought they were sambos, but the book tells me they are black banded kingfish - Ryan confirmed the ID. I think there are a few more of these around, being mistaken for sambos...These fish have the extra dorsal fin...
Save the Whales! May as well - they won't fit in my catch bag!!!

Which extra dorsal fin? Do
Which extra dorsal fin? Do you mean dorsal spine count? What species did the book have (wiki doesnt have it listed, so common name must not be as common :p)

Sambo v kingfish
Sambos have one continuous dorsal fin. This one has another row of spines forward of the main dorsal fin.
I used the book - Sea Fishes of Southern Australia as my reference, but you will find them online also as a black banded amberjack.
Try Google - Seriolina nigrofasciata

Not quite. Sambos (and ambos) have a row of spines forward of the main dorsal fin. The site you linked two also says sambos have two dorsal. Any chance of scanning the page or taking a pic. It would be interesting to see what the book says about ID (cause it doesnt seem to match up to all the other info). Some linked pics of sambos/ambos i've caught showing the first dorsal:
link link link and amberjack link link
I think ye be holding a horse (sambo) not a zebra (black banded kingfish)

Dorsal
In the Sea Fishes of Southern Australia book,if you look at the juveniles of sambos and amberjacks they both have the small dorsal fin showing. On adult fish they usually lay down flat or in some cases dissappear all together.
It looks like a sambo to me but without counting the rays it could be either.
