Poor Man's Exxy Trip
I have 10 weeks of LSL left to use up in the next 18 months but with my Wife at work 3 days/week I am basically a stay at home dad for most of it so going to work in a fishing trip and head away for a week for some serious fishing.
My tow vehicle is a work vehicle and I can only go as far as Kalbarri or Esperance so I am looking at spots to do a ‘poor man’s’ Exxy trip. My boat is a 5m Seafarer and the vehicle is a 2WD so I need access to concrete boat ramps and preferably one with a jetty.
The three places I am looking at are Jurien, Leeman and Greenhead. I’ve been to Jurien so I know what to expect there town wise but no idea when it comes to fishing. Looking at the map Jurien looks like it offers the most protected area and Greenhead offers some protection and it is only a short drive by boat to the ground off Leeman and has a long jetty so I’d probably be leaning more to one of those two towns.
Please feel free to hit me up with your experiences fishing each of those towns and offer me any other suggestions I haven’t thought of as this trip is an open book at the moment.

Bremer Bay? Many bays,
Bremer Bay? Many bays, scenic, albeit a few hrs drive. Variety of species
Gace town/Cowaranup bay shorter drive.
Prevelly as Gracetown. Abilities for many refreshing stops if weather is foul
Hopetoun a forgotten gem. Scenic again similar stuff you get in Esperance
Many bays east of town provide some wind protection if the wind swings.
All have good abalone potential and access with the more southern two providing in my opinion more opportunities wind wise.
Rock fishing for blue groper and the like
Getting out wide to catch the tasty bighfish

I'm actually taking the Mrs and kids down that way the week before but taking the dinghy down to hit the huge inlets down there. The old man and brother have a house in Hopetoun but it is currently being rented otherwise I'd be going there. The pics of the beach look amazing

Hamelin Bay
Hamelin Bay would be my choice, weather for the next couple of months is usually predictable and the fish are starting to turn up.
You can safely launch and retrieve a 5.0 metre boat with a 2wd and if not there are plenty who will assist you. Salmon are just about due to arrive, plenty of herring, crays and abalone if you want to snorkel for them. Not far offshore outside the bay there are plenty of dhueys and pinkies for the freezer and sambos to make the arms longer
Not too far from Augusta or Margret River for the missus to sample the local products and wines

Wouldn't drive past Leeman to get to Kalbarri
And I live there. It has been very ordinary at Kalbarri this year so far, mackerel very few and far between, bottom fishing pretty ordinary notwithstanding the weather, which was brilliant for January, been decades since we had one like that.
Hope it gets better by May--May is normally good up here, weather is good, fish are about (usually)

If its first week of may i
If its first week of may i wouldnt go south. Cararvonsite pointed out Hamelin bay, that time of year will see the swells coming through, unless your real lucky.
Hamelin bay ramp shouldnt be touched in anything over a 2m swell, too dangerous for the in-experienced on that ramp.
Leeman is good, just got back from there and plenty of fish!!
Kalbarri, not fished it but have come through the river mouth...quite an experience but from my understanding there is a fair amount of travel to good ground.
I'd be looking at Jurien, Greenhead, Leeman.

Cheers bloke that's the area I am looking at. I am going the south coast with the family in April with the family and will be taking the dinghy and the beach rod so I'll get my fix down there in those pristine waters

Can anyone let me know what the general store is like? If it's anything like the Preston general store where they broom handle you hard I'll be taking everything up otherwise I am keen to spend some money in the town.

its not too bad last time i went there. i wouldnt be expecting to buy gourmet snags or anything like that. they have the basic stuff along with frozen bbq packs and a bit of fresh produce. its no IGA thats for sure. there is also a good cafe/takeaway place just to the north of dynamite bay. i would be taking up meats and mostly fresh produce. everything else you should be able to get from there.

With the swells predicted
With the swells predicted for this weekend I think most beaches will have decent surf.
We're up at Sandy Cape Friday so hoping the bay offers some protection from the swell.
