Drought broken on Valentine's for Sandy
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2021-02-14 20:06Yep another Valentine's is done and dusted and Sandy broke her drought on fish. The weather turned out to be almost spot on for a change . We headed out 22nm but still fishing in 40 mtrs . First 2 fish that came aboard was a pinkie at 550 and a nice Bauldie. I got a small but size dhuie (tasted great pan fried)
The day ended up with 2 nice Bauldie 1 pinkie 1 dhuie and a small but size blackass that wouldn't have gone back and survive.
Great day out and last one for a while before I head north again

Aluminium Trailers – Torsion Arms vs Axle/Springs
Submitted by Darren253 on Thu, 2021-02-04 13:01Considering my Aluminium Trailers options for the 2400 and wanted to gauge peoples opinion and experiences on Torsion arm vs Springs on Aluminium trailers?
From my consideration, Torsions arms have less moving and corroding parts and a lower C.O.G, however a torsion arm failure would be catastrophic. Torsion arms also offer no load sharing should you ever ride up a kerb for example (not that I have ever done that, honest
)
What are your thoughts?

engel repair.
Submitted by marrisy on Tue, 2021-02-02 10:01Engel repairs, who does a good fair priced repair ?
My 48 litre Engel has slowly been gettind worse, not freezing then not getting as cool, then half the cold plate only cooling, now only a small area cooling to the touch. It's about six years old, MT-45 litre.
I called the Engle service number and was told before I could explain much, the woman said $750.oo for a new compressor unit, or $900.oo for the bigger one, that was it. If they serviced it , it got a new unit, they dont repair old compressor units.
I suspect a gas leak, which would need to be fixed and regassed, I no longer have the tools to repair myself. Worked with grandad who was a refridgeration mech.
I think if I am going to spend that kind of money I will get a new Waeco for that price, I have had a couple of waeco car fridges, probably 15 yeard old and one still going strong, the other sold several years ago.
Bought two Stirling Adventuridge 50 litre units that have run nonstop over the last six years, both still going fine. One involved in a vehicle write of, display isn't the best, but no issues. $400.oo each new.
Paying north of $1400.oo for a carfridge I expect better than 6 years ,baring accidents, but for $700.oo or less , I expect to have to replace around ten years or so. Maybe my expectations are to high.??
Regards Marrisy.

Shore Catch Trading – 1 February to 5 February 2021
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2021-01-31 19:02Shore Catch advises that our retail outlet in Wangara will be closed during the Perth, Peel and South West Hard Lockdown as notified by the Western Australian Government on 31 January 2021. We are of the view that recreational fishing does not qualify as exercise within a neighbourhood for one hour a day as per the stated exemptions, and therefore is not allowed. Attendance to purchase our products is also not shopping for essential goods, and risks must be minimised. The Hard Lockdown will impact our business as we will receive no revenue for the week, but the safety of WA citizens is the most important consideration at this point in time.
As a family business, we will still continue to work at our premises over the period. Most of our bait products are food grade so our suppliers will still operate over the lockdown. We will fully restock our range after a very busy January, continue with our rebranding and showroom upgrade, and list our selected product on the new website.
Please follow the Government directives regarding this threat, as we believe they will be appropriate for the situation. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you when the potential outbreak is appropriately contained.
Mick

Caribbean 2400
Submitted by Darren253 on Wed, 2021-01-20 10:11Just a few weeks from 4 years since starting the Reef Runner build thread, I've dropped a deposit on a Caribbean 2400.
The Reef Runner is sold/committed but still with me until the end of Feb, now the agonising wait for the hull build that is only due in Nov' 21.
The Reef Runner has been a great boat and a great investment (if there is such a thing in boating). With some selective build and DIY elements at the front end and the current market pricing, it has resulted in 4 year of economical boating. My family and I have shared some great memories but we are looking for that extra room to make the extended day or weekend trips for 4 that bit more comfortable. Whilst it has hosted us on meny weekend trip to Rotto, the extra room of the 2400 will be a welcome benefit.
I considered bigger, I considered a penned boat or a share in a penned boat, I considered a jinker hardstand boat, but I couldn't look past the ROI that the Caribbean Boats command and truth be told since owning the Reefie I always dreamed of the girth and volume of the 2400. I always want to be able to hose and wash my gear off and be in control of my own modifications/repairs so I need to keep it trailered. Our usage is a mix of Metro fishing days with mates, whiting bash with kids, family day/weekend island trips, tubing and skiing in the river, plus 1-2 weeks fishing in Coral Bay/Exmouth per year.
Basic hull, oversized swim platforms and bunk infill ordered from Mansfield Marine. I'm researching engine options and trailer options currently. 300hp most likely. I'm pretty open to all major brands. I actually think the finish will end up similar to how I built the Reef Runner. Awning/Simrad/Autopilot/Fusion/Deck Tread/Extra Bench Seating… It has served us well. Build below:
fishwrecked.com/forum/caribbean-reef-runner
I will look for a through hull transducer. I've really struggled with a transom mount at speed over the years. I also think I will add the addition of tabs or zipwakes to get the beamy bow down into those tight chops and through hull leaves the transom clear for installation!
I’ve now got 11months to hunt the sales, find deals and start building the stockpile of fittout goodies!

hydrofoil or trim tabs on chivers sportsfisherman
Submitted by Fresh herbs on Thu, 2021-01-14 12:39just after anyone with some feed back or experience with a hydrofoil or trim tabs on a chivers sportsfisherman. i'm a big fan of my boat after owning it for a couple of summers now and i'd like to add a few things to it as i plan to have the boat for some time at this stage.
It sits back heavy at low speed and leans to the left when up on the plan at at higher knots. I have been contemplating a hydrofoil or tabs to help how the boats sits at lower knots and then when underway. it seems to travel fine with a following sea (although i generally just slow down and drive to conditions). so just after some live experience as i'm sure there are plenty of these old girls around and plenty of people had done their fair share of time in them over the years.
also does anyone have any idea what the small sealed compartment under the helm on the floor is for. i have seen it on most of these boats and can't seem to get an answer of what it's for.
cheers herbs

250-300HP Outboard Pricing
Submitted by Darren253 on Wed, 2021-01-13 21:14Is anyone able to share any recent pricing for 250hp or 300hp XXL pricing for outboards that they have recently aquired? I know supply is a major issue at the minute but would be interested to see where each manufacture is landing fitted in WA?
I've got pricing for Merc 250 STD in 30" at $34,700.
Merc 300 Verado is $38,900.
Does anyone have recent pricing for Suzuki or Yamaha?

Was a challenge
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Mon, 2021-01-04 20:17Got this one Sunday out on the spoil bank. Certainly wasn't an easy fight . Only using an outfit realy only suitable for fish up to maybe 5kg and running 15lb line , this one just nearly got me down to my backing line peeling off nearly 100mtrs of braid. Got it turn ed D but it still wanted to go for the open ocean . After about half hour after gaining and loosing line I finally got it on the waters edge. Quick pic and it swam off slowly.
The length of pipe is 500mm so I estimated it at around 1500 long . It certainly tested my line and knots .

Boat Market
Submitted by Brock O on Mon, 2021-01-04 14:02Gents,
Anyone sold or bought a boat recently and how did they go bargaining ?.....starting to look around for something between 6 -7m mark, used and there's not a lot around.
I know the car market has gone through the roof as we seen a few grand in price change over a 3 month period late last year...some yards struggling to find cars as they were selling so fast.
Not a buyers market at a guess..
