Jeep owners where do you get yours serviced/ modified?
Submitted by straith on Sat, 2018-07-07 14:18Hi all,
Just a callout to any jeep owners.
Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for a good reliable and not rediculously expensive mechanic/agent for service/repairs/improvements for their jeep?
Mines a gc overland and as youd know they arent cheap to service or modify.
Thanks in advance!

Replacement Mudguards
Submitted by bsir on Thu, 2018-07-05 08:04My mudguards on my 10 year old trailer have just about rusted through.
They are currently held together with patches of fibreglass that i have overlayed, so it is time for new ones.
Ive been to Martins, the the mudguards they have font fit the brackets that are installed (which only have a little bit of movement). These could be modified, but i would prefer not to if not required.
The trailer is made over in Qld and i havecontacted them. Delivery is a killer.
Anyone else know who can supply (or fabricate) mudguards at a decent price?
Thanks

Research Buoy of Scarborough
Submitted by Iceman on Tue, 2018-07-03 12:23Yesterday we received a call from the Water police. A beach inspector had reported seeing a vessel anchored out near the south cardinal marker of Scarborough. One of our vessels was dispatched to investigate and as most would question why was a vessel out in this weather.
Upon arrival they found what appears to be a research buoy. We believe it has been anchored there for testing before being despatched to another location.
We presume it will be lit a night but please take precautions if heading in this direction.

Hydraulic Steering
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2018-07-02 10:37Howdy Team,
I am in the process of gutting and rebuilding my 18 ft Centre Console. Previously (15 years) the cables ran across the deck to the console which, apart from causing pain when you got a cable tie at the wrong angle), caused a bit of a blockage when washing down the deck. There was the whole UV thing.
The steering has always been hard (like two hands to turn the wheel to starboard), and gets to the point that my wife struggles to helm the boat. It isn't* hard regardless of speed, and also when out of the water. When the cable is removed, the motor is hard to turn, and the wheel is easy to turn, so it is the cable. A replaced cable made no difference so I am guessing the tight radius's are causing me issues
This in mind, I was thinking about changing to Hydraulic. I know there is a fair bit more cost involved though can anyone give me feedback on changing over? Any pros and cons?
I plan to run everything under the deck going forward.
Thanks in advance.

Mandurah/southern based panel banger
Submitted by Swompa on Thu, 2018-06-28 11:50Howdy Folks,
My wife had a very minor bingle with a Suzuki Swift resulting in the requirement for a new rear bumper. No damage to our car (outlander) (what do they make swifts from?) thankfully.
We are insured (they aren't) though we pay a low premium thus get wacked with a high excess so I am trying to avoid insurance.
Are there any panel beaters on this side? I need someone to supply and install a rear bumper on a 08 Black Suzuki Swift. Owner lives in Dawesville.
Cheers

Round 15 Punt
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2018-06-26 21:07Might get a bit of a punting thingo happening each week for those that like a flutter....
Before any nancys chime in, i'm not getting this happening as some form of a spruking "i only ever win and never loose" post...
For me i start the season with $200 in an online account and have a bit of fun week to week with that, fortunately this year I tripled it with a lucky win by having a 60 point margin multi come in...
So now with some cash in the kitty i can have a few riskier bets trying to keep in the green without having to outlay too much....
My last two weeks have been lame but still got a handy kitty happening....
So.... This year my goto has been on the 60 & 100 point margins ( Tab touch ) so picking a winner between certain scores....
I reckon the Saints can push the Dees, the Dees seem to have lost that form they had and perhaps the Saints can turn the corner late in the season, Like i said this is a roughie but Saints 1-19 is paying $12 so i'll have a crack...
Anyone into any Roughies this week?

Destination Broome
Submitted by Wes F on Mon, 2018-06-25 20:41So the wife suggested we go away for a few weeks about 12 months ago and the destination was to be Broome since we have been through a few times but have never had a good look around. So after making a rough sechdule with the plan of less K's and more stays we hit the road at 3am 1st June and headed inland northward for the Cappy roadhouse. We arrived late that afternoon tucked into a feed at the bar and grill washed down with a couple of beers. After a good nights rest in one of the rooms we were back on the road bound for Cape Keraudren. We got there in good time to find the place rather busy due to school holidays and a long weekend. Not to bother we setup camp on the easternside to kick back for two nights.

First sunset for the trip.

Now that relax mode was set it was an easy drive to Barn Hill Station. This turned out to be a rather basic setup camping ground already with a large number of Grey Nomads, Wrinkles & Wobblies (new names for the older generations). Still a pleasant place quite relaxing.

No luck for me in the way of catching any fish but the oldies heading out in their tinnies were getting a variety of fish.
More sunset beers and chill time.
Now it was time to head for Broome and the surrounds. Cable beach caravan park was to be home for the next 12 days and the usual locations to explore. Cable Beach itself after a few arrival drinks.

Willie Creek.

Barred Creek and some fishing, not much catching but still relaxing either way.

Drove up through Quondong and a look around James Price Point.
After a visit to the Malcom Douglas Wildlife park.

It was up the Dampier Penninsular for a couple of days.Found a secluded location near Middle Lagoon which we had to ourselves for the night.
Well some more sunset beers were in order and we were off to the top end the next morning.
Due to limited access and every location requiring a fee just to enter and have a look sightseeing is limited at the top end. So we only got a quick look at Cape Leveque and One Arm Point.
As you can see by some of the photos we were aerial at some point. That was due to heading out to the Horizontal Water Falls at Talbot bay. Absolute highlight of the trip, Great view as you fly over the penninsular and the thousand odd islands off the coast.
Landing at the floating platforms to be served barra fillets for lunch, then hop on the boats to blast through the gaps in the headlands and then a cruise up Cyclone river. Great way to spend a day.
Well Broome time was just about done so relaxing, enjoying good feeds and beverages was required before the trip home.
Eighty Mile beach.
Point Sampson.
Some random spot to camp south of Carnarvon
And finally back home.
Cheers to the missus for a good time away next time a dinghy is a must.
And yes I've still got a fair few sand file bites.
Cheers hope you enjoy the read and photos.

New boat no 7
Submitted by davidbland50 on Sun, 2018-06-24 20:43Hi All,
It has been awhile since I last posted. We have been busy and had another couple of boats since.
Which brings me on to my next topic, the latest boat.
It is supposedly a Commodore 585, which I have no information about. Hopefully, someone out there does. The previous owner tried to pass it off as a Caribbean Reef Runner and even though hull looks familiar the nose of the bow looked wrong.
It is fitted with a Mercruiser 4cyl with a Alpha One leg. The age seems to be around 1990 -1994 as the ignition is an EST type with electronic module. I am assuming it is a 3.0l.
Pics to follow and thanks for any future input.
David
A new pb
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2018-06-24 20:39With the weather suppoedly good this morning to get out we got up early and hoping to hit the water at first light . Yeah right as if. Got on the at about 7:30 and headed out to one of our spots in the 40s . Wasnt the smoothest trip out but we managed. Set the drift first fish on a sgt baker which was converted to bait . Next drift i nailed a just size dhuie then nothing. Set drift again and Sandy got another just size dhuie
Next up was a new pb kg that was about 560 showing 1.1 kg so was stoked. All went quiet apart from a few small pinks and scorpion fish. Moved into our kg spot with not much happening with a slow and wierd drift and Sandy got a kg . All up 2 dhuie and 2 kgs. Happy to just get out there for a bash and try out the new axiom . Hopefully get out again before its back to the bush

Wellcraft trailer
Submitted by Matty15 on Sun, 2018-06-24 17:49Recently purchased a Wellcraft 232 coastal, has a 2003 Mackay trailer underneath, trailer not designed for this boat obviously. The keel rollers are a pain as it seems to catch badly on the first 2 as I'm driving it on and off so much so it's taking chips out the gelcoat, and have now dropped them out the way but still catches on the first one. also has the rear drop down swing arm for the last 3 sets of rollers which needs to be lifted up as it was never set properly, bloody second hand trailers!
question is can I remove the entire row of keel rollers and just have the wobble rollers each side as there are 16 sets, boat would weigh around 1800kg

Steep Point Repeater
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2018-06-24 11:15For those taking boats and wanting to keep in radio contact with Denham while at the back of the cliffs you can use channel 22 VHF via the repeater situated on the Steep Point lighthouse.
The whole unit was replaced last Tuesday and is up and running so when you log on to Denham when travelling over remind them that you will be using that channel and they can monitor it for you
