So Much for so Little - but Helped out by LOCAL Suppliers
Submitted by Reddroo on Tue, 2018-05-22 16:44Last time out in our 5.2m Frazer, we noticed a small leakage of oil from the centre shaft on the outboard tilt/trim unit on our 90HP ETEC. The raise/lower still worked OK but was quite noisy and jerky. Got home, flushed the motor and found it would not longer go up and down.
First check on the internet - looks like a leaking seal is the likely culprit and can only find an Evinrude kit of seals for this tilt/trim unit at the princely sum of over $280 from Canada. Called Sportsmarine (Bunbury) who quoted over $350 for the same kit. More research reveals the Evinrude repair kits contain a piston cap which only fits later models of the tilt/trim unit, ie not mine, which is an earlier model. So the most expensive item in the Evinrude kit would be no use in my rebuild. It is supplied 'just in case' the original cap is broken during removal.
So, options so far are to pay $280-350 for an Evinrude repair kit (use the seals/o-rings but throw away the most costly single item ie the cap) or do something else.
In this case, something else was to go to Nowland Hydraulics (thanks Sportsmarine for the tip!) and purchase the individual seals and o-rings based on their sizes/markings etc., for less than $70.
I reassembled the unit, filled with fresh oil, raised/lowered the motor a few times to bleed it and it now works as good and smooth as new.
This picture shows the old seals which I removed. Note the cracks visible in the lower left hand seal which caused the original oil leakage.
A BIG thanks to Nowland Hydraulics for obtaining the parts and for Sportsmarine for steering me in the right direction.

Brake line pipe cutter & flaring tool help?
Submitted by Darren253 on Mon, 2018-05-21 15:57Does anyone in the metro area have a copper brake line cutter and flaring tool I could borrow/rent for a 6 pack?
I had a minor incident over the weekend but have managed to bend the hydraulic copper pipe just as it enters the fitting on the hitch. It's weeping fluid under braking and I think it’s a bit more than just tightening is going to fix.
Ta, Darren

Copied from Facebook
Submitted by Dale on Sun, 2018-05-13 21:22Happened early this morning I believe. HEADS UP, COMRADES! Al Norris is with Brodie Copeland. 4 hrs IF anyone knows these guys were from warnbro and kwinana that has done this and they were driving a black suv or ute that had a bonfire down the beach all were white males 8-10 in there low to mid 20's any info will be kept 100% annonymous inbox me please if you know anything If anyone hears about a pair of tiagra 30w reels for sale could you please let me know. For thos asking us what happend last night over private messanger, we were down at horse beach fishing and around 12:30-1 in the morning a big group of guys older than us came down to where we were set up. They started off asking what we had caught and sat down. At this stage some of us started packing up to leave or run, although the group started taking rods and reels before attacking the group of us fishing on the beach. I managed to run off into the bush and hide with my equiptment and called police, by this time the others on the beach had everything valuable taken or thrown in the water, held at knife point and told to lay face down in the sand while their phones, wallets, chains, reels and other stuff stolen. Jono had to go to the hospital after been hit on the head with a tiagra but he is alright now. There was a few thousand bucks worth of stuff taken, hoping someone may see a for sale add for the reels.

Towing transmission temperature
Submitted by Cruise Control on Sun, 2018-05-13 20:36There have been many posts about towing and how important it is to make sure that your transmission is not being overworked by either slowing down or using a lower gear etc.
I am running a Jeep 3 litre diesel 8 speed. Normal transmission temp, not towing, is 91 degrees centigrade. Towing 3.5 tonne and leaving the transmission to select its own gear, I get up to 101 centigrade. This is towing in 8th gear at 100kph, the transmission does not hunt at this speed, although it will drop a gear when pulling up inclines or into a stiff headwind, very rare for it to drop to 6th unless the incline is steep or you push it hard.
So, what is normal, what should you expect to see your transmission temp at ?

Can I bum a lift from Carnarvon to Geraldton???
Submitted by slothwan on Sun, 2018-05-13 20:24Hey FishWwrecked Gang,
I just thought I'd shout out to see if anyone was coming home from an up north fishing trip.
I'm off on this sailing capper again ( short one this time). As a result, I'm going to find myself about 500kms from where I left my car in Geraldton.
I'm looking for a ride from Carnarvon to Geraldton to pick up my car. I'm sailing into Canarvon on the 19th or 20th (depending on weather) and keen to get south ASAP.
Happy to split fuel and driving. I'll have one bag, a surfboard (maybe not) and myself. Give me a shout if you're heading south on those dates. Please note, I'll be out of range from monday lunchtime and I won't be able to reply until I get back into Carnarvon. Drop me a PM with your phone number.
About me: 36yo with family in perth, easygoing. Happy to have a chat or plug my headphones in if you want peace and quite.
Cheers Adam

OUTWIDE is still sniffing about....
Submitted by timboon on Tue, 2018-05-08 14:04I was not acting the detective but did notice Outwide was online a minute ago...
Perhaps he's awaiting a Freo win to chime in on the forum....
Outwide - Dont take the footy so seriously, damn i remember one year when the Hawks didnt win the Flag and i still fronted up....
That was the year the Bulldogs were handed the flag with the AFL rule change, if it wasn't for that the Hawks would have won 4 in a row, yes thats right Fawthorn....
But anyway you dont hear me bashing on about it so just come out of your hidey hole and come say gday to the fellas....

Mens magazines wanted
Submitted by Anytime Brad on Fri, 2018-05-04 04:03No not looking for those Magazines !!!
I work in a large public hospital with middle aged men making up a large chunk of my patients. There are always New Idea, Woman's Weekly magazines laying around but not much for the men. I have exhausted my supply of old fishing and camping magazines so was throwing it out there to see if anyone had anything suitable they could donate. Anything fishing, sporting, camping, 4WDing related would be appreciated.
Send me a message if you can help. I'm located in Como

Coral Bay - 15 Days... Wooohooo!
Submitted by Helen on Thu, 2018-05-03 15:28Hi Everyone. The countdown is on for my trip to Coral Bay. I’m a little nervous to be doing the trip solo but at least if i drive i can take what i want with me. I’m likely going to do a charter at least once but if anyone has any suggestions of the best way to travel with the fish i catch that be great. I can probably borrow a fridge off a mate but don’t think it’s a freezer. Also i am keen to do some land based fishing but not even sure you can do that in coral bay. I don’t remember seeing anyone fishing when i went many years ago so assume that is so they can protect the reef? Thanks Peeps. Getting a bit excited now. :)

ALSO - Anything of interest happening up there? been twice and never hooked a fish. Was kind of keen on the a charter though finances killed that idea, and the forecast of 20 knot south easterly's.

Tyre deflators
Submitted by bsir on Mon, 2018-04-30 13:22OK, so its not fishing related but...
I need to buy new tyre deflators after my car was broken into. I used to use the STAUN type that just screw on and deflate the tyre to a pre-set pressure.
Ive seen quite a few newer ones now that actually pull the valve and deflate the tyre quickly.
Im interested in what people use, and if anyone has used the cheap knock-offs from ebay and if they are any good.
Thanks

Anyone else with Westpac Insurance?
Submitted by Dale on Wed, 2018-04-25 11:38Got a letter in the mail yesterday from some lawyers saying since I have insurance sold to me as part of my super, I’m part of a group who are doing a $100 million class action against Westpac. Obviously I’m hoping there’s only 50-100 of us taking part, but I doubt it. Anyone else get the same letter?
