AFL Finals Tipping Comp
Submitted by Brock O on Tue, 2017-08-29 13:00
Giving Gilly a rest this year and im keen to go again...
Chasing a minimum of 10 punters who want to enter into a knockout AFL finals tipping comp.
$5 to enter, payable into account prior to the bounce of the ball first final. Winner takes all.
Rules:
THIS IS A TACTICAL tipping comp please read and understand the rules
Put your tip in this thread and I'll edit them into the post each round. Tips arent usually secret in this type of comp.
You must tip one team (one team only) that you think will win in the first round. If your team loses you're out.
Correct tippers move onto round 2.
You cannot tip the same team twice during the comp i.e. if you think sydney will play off in and win the GF you cant tip them in the first 3 rounds.
Strategy and luck is required.
Last punter standing wins the total pot. A margin will be used if 2 players end up on same team in final round
If we have multiple tippers still alive in the Grand Final round, we will also include a margin for that game to dicide the winner. Closest to the pin will win the prize.
Who's keen?
Enter your names below.
once we have the numbers i will PM everyone bank details, remember money will have to be in account before the first final or confirmation of transfer to participate.

Footy player should be in Jail?
Submitted by quadfisher on Thu, 2017-08-24 15:03
Thoughts ? , I dont see anywhere in article were it says player was arrested or is under investigation by police for assault,
If this happened outside a pub , and was on camera , he would be gone.
Watch the slo mo , people have near enough died with less impact.
But i dont play footy or other contact games , so dont know the president.

Solar - A bit of info from my sourcing event
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2017-08-22 13:30So around two months back, I started looking at expanding my solar system. Chatting with my neighbour, he said he was keen to get a new system too so I did a letter drop around the neighbours and found another two willing participants. The deal was that, as I am a buyer, I would go out to the market and try to source a deal for all of us to get the biggest systems we could, install on the same day and see what we could get in the way of a group discount.
Below is a summary of what I found. I initially went to the market to get an idea of products but in the end, went to each supplier stipulating what I wanted thus could compare apples for apples.
Rating wise, 1 = great. 10 = crap
True Value Solar: They installed the system I had on my roof already that I have to scrap as it was a cheap system with cheap parts. Inverter wasn't supported any longer and I was unable to expand. When asked to quote a specific product they didn't respond so were not interested in installing quality. Rated 10th out of 10
Synergy: They are after margin not market share so their price was high. 9th out of 10.
Solar Gain: Good Product, Good customer service through charge a premium for the premium products they sell.
8th out of 10
Euro Solar: Happy to sell me crap at a good price but when it came down to it, their 10% price beat guarantee will give you a great price (I didn't share the best price I had), but it will be on cheap crap. Very forceful "YOU MUST ACCEPT THIS NOW". Further, they have been told to shut up shop by the Tax man for not paying tax, and are known for closing entities when the shit hits the fan. Rated 7 out of 10. Prices were un-inspiring, fast to respond but very forceful to make a decision NOW
Future Solar: Mark was extremely helpful and was in the box seat to get the job until the federal government cut the rebate thus adding 1000 onto the cost of each system. Customer Service was exceptional but priced 6th out of 10 on the final hurdle.
Regen: Took three attempts to get a quote for what I wanted. it really seemed too hard. Rated 5 out of 10 on price but their customer service was shit. I complained to fair trading about them they were so bad....well he challenged me to do it so I did.
All Spark Solutions: Good Small shop. Again, happy to sell cheap stuff at a low price though they were 4th out of 10 price wise.
Green Wiring: Initially contacted this mob as they added panels to an existing system with my neighbour. Their price was 3rd out of 10. Answered the questions I asked.
A Womans Spark: Very helpful and they came to me with a 5kw package for less than 3 grand installed, but I wanted quality this time. Rated 2nd out of 10
Technaus: The only company to actually come to site and meet me, and measure the houses. They have won the job and will be installing in a couple of weeks.
Alinta: Now I excluded these guys from the running straight up as the price was ridiculous (28k for all) but I thought I would share.
I must add further to this that Mark, site sponsor, was very helpful. He would have narrowly won the work but we took too long and he had to apply a genuine price rise (search Solar STC rebate reduction). I encourage you to make contact with him should you have any queries.
Finally, some companies quote rubbish. I note that Euro Solar have a package out now called a Bill buster which is a 5kw cheap shitty inverter with 16x 270W panels...now 16 x 270 = 4.32kw of generation. Why would you go less than the inverter can handle, particularly when you can go as high as 6.48kw? Generate the maximum as often as you can...Inverters are almost the disposable part of the package, particular when Batteries become more common in a few years.
If anyone has any questions or wants a contact name, hit me up via PM.

Round 22 - Meh
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2017-08-17 19:56I'm still sad because my Dreamteam was pulverised by suspension and injury and I don't think my footy team are going to fare much better. If I had to use one word for our game last week it'd be 'insipid'! Nonetheless it's a new week and we get to push on against GWS... away... with Cameron, Mummy, Devon SMith and Tomlinson coming back...
In other news Harely Bennell makes his long awaited debut after doing the sum of feck all in the WAFL and don't be surprised if Richmond do a Richmond and tumble out of the top 4 because no one does a Richmond better than Richmond.
Good to see the Maco Marvel's kid is getting a run and you can't tell me this kid hasn't been dobbing bananas since he was 2.
Good to see the Jaegar bomb back to. At this rate he's earning about $200k per game. That's good money in anyone's book letalone a cripple.

Frankenstein rod repairs
Submitted by Fish or Die on Sun, 2017-08-13 16:54so on Friday night was fishin for pinkies alone off local Rockwall and snapped about 30 cm off my 12ft penn prevail 12-20 kg rod while landing a ray as I didn't want to gaff it.
didn't let it get me down went home and went through an assortment of broken rods I have and found a suitable piece of rod to fit over the end of the prevail. It was broken top half of a lemax 3-6 blue mountain I then cut off the guides and found suitable replacement guides that I've kept from other broken rods
i then binded guides to rod at suitable distances to suit and hey presto I now have a 13 ft penn prevail lemax Frankenrod
Ill give it a test run in the next few days this is not the first Frankenrod rod I've made as I've also combined a 2-3 kg ballistix rod to the bottom half of the same lemax rod and created a sick squiding rod that I've also landed salmon on
hope you enjoyed the post and it gives you guys some ideas for things to do in this crap weather
i also use the leftover butt section of rod to store my unused reels in my man cave see pics

Pandora's replacement?
Submitted by timboon on Sun, 2017-08-13 03:17Crew,
Whats the best replacement for Pandora?
They've got rid of it for some reason!!
Spotify is an obvious choice but it seems i have to buy the premium version to run on my Sonos system at home so if i'm going to have to pay for tunes i may as well come here and ask peoples opinions on which is the best music provider.
Pandora was a fucking ripper, free with shitloads of choice and easy to use.

Pingers Paradise
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sat, 2017-08-12 22:23Went out for a fish on Bar Flats off Denham yesterday and talk about a pingers paradise, had another boat in company as they had been catching bugger all over their first 10 days of a 14 day holiday, dropped anchor on first spot with the other boat 20 metres away when bugger me dead along comes the first pinger, he did a complete circle round us no more that 20 metres away then slowly motors off. Blow me down yet another boat heads straight to us and does exactly the same thing. We spent approximately half hour there then move off to another spot.
Blow me down not 5 minutes after and complete repeat of the first time by two completely different boats not to be outdone we shifted spots yet again and this time only one visitor decides to come for a visit.
Got a few picks on the phone for a name and shame but don't think it will do anything to change their habits as they have the thought that no one owns the ocean and they have a right to fish where ever they please and have no interest in finding their own spots and take the easiest option
Only finished up with one size pinky and a big painted sweetlips plus about 200 undersize pinkies on our boat and 12 NW blowies and 150 undersize pinkies on the other boat so a donation of the painted sweetlips to them was in order.
Saw 2 of the boats involve pulled up outside the bakery this morning and thought better of letting them have a piece of my mind, 3 and 4 against one is not in my favour

Round 21 - ... and There's Still 11
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2017-08-11 09:50I had a run through the ladder predictor and unless WCE beat Carlton by over 100 and lose to GWS by under 12 and beat Adelaide it's curtains unless Freo beat Essendon away in round 23... Truth be told be have no business playing finals this season anyway.
Geelong are cooked and Richmond are overrated and after last week it looks like GWS are pushing in the clutch and getting ready to slip into next gear. Fancy sitting 2nd on the ladder and having Deledio debut for you and bringing back Green and Patton the following week. Adelaide is the only team I am not sure about but they just keep getting the job done.
My prediction is a NSW derby Grand Final with Sydney shaking the dissapointment of 14 and 16 and coming home with the goods after starting 0-6. Sydney's pressure around the ball and tackling is good enough to choke GWS who really do like the game being played on their own terms.

Landcruiser 200 Series
Submitted by JW77 on Mon, 2017-08-07 10:13Hi, I currently have a 3L diesel Prado and find it struggles to tow my 6m fibreglass Seafarer when we head North fully loaded on holidays. It's now time for an upgrade and I'm thinking the 4.7L V8 Petrol Landcruiser 200 Series and are interested in any experience people may have had (good or bad) towing a similar size boat with one of these vehicles. I know the diesel 200 Series get a good wrap as a tow vehicle, however from Monday to Friday the car will only travel 4km each day (round trip) to the local train station. Weekends it will get a lot of use towing the camper trailer or boat. I'm no expert, but imagine a short distance like that is not great for any car but probably worse for a diesel. Any advice/comments would be appreciated.
Cheers, Jase

Vac packing spare trailer wheel bearings
Submitted by scano on Wed, 2017-08-02 01:09Hi all,
i had this brainstorm the other day and was wondering whether others had contemplated the idea.
we all know how important it is for carrying spare trailer wheel bearings, particularly on those long trips away.
the usual prep of checking over the trailer and replacing or repacking bearings prior to leaving etc. also there are always recommendations of never mixing the type of grease used when packing the bearings, but that's not always an option on the side of the highway.
I usually pack a complete set of new bearings at the time of changing trailer bearings anyway, to be used as emergency spares. The problem however is even with being covered and packed in grease, if they sit in a placcy bag for extended periods, they end up with surface rust on the bearing races and bearings ect. Therefore I had this lightbulb in the head idea, what about prepping a full set of bearings at the time of regular changing / replacement, and then vac packing them straight after? That way they are sealed to the point they won't get condensation and surface rust when sitting for longer periods, plus they could even be placed somewhere within the car without grease getting smeared on everything because the packet is fully sealed. Make sense?
i have literally just replaced my wheel bearings on the tinnie boat trailer, however have run out of vac pack bags. But as soon as I have some more this weekend, I'll vac seal the spares which are already greased and ready to go, and report on how it all went. With the grease being very thick and tacky, I don't see it being drawn into the sealing strip area of the vac packer too easily.
thoughts?

Trailer project for camping
Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2017-07-29 15:54With the bad weather lately Decided to pick up a cheap 6x4 trailer as a small project to make things easier for when we go camping. So far I had the draw bar extended to 1600mm from 800mm (paid south west trailers to do the job, by the time I purchased the materials it was worth paying the extra $100 to have it done) I moved the axel back 100mm, have purchased new rims/tyres and a toolbox. canopy will be going back on & once everything is painted will be decked out with lights & a slide out kitchen. Should make those camping trips a little more enjoyable ![]()

Posting a screen grab
Submitted by gruntre69 on Fri, 2017-07-28 08:12Some might know but in case you don't There is a handy tool called snipping tool. Once I found it I used it all the time. It is standard in windows from windows 7 and possibly earlier. You can grab a section of any part of a screen and paste into email or any other document or you can save the image to a folder. So if you want to quickly grab a part of a website or an image of something you just select the area you want and paste. In the case of the forum, selec t save and save it to desktop or some other temporary location as an image file and then use the forum picture tools to put it into your post.
Unfortunately you can only do it in a new thread and not an existing thread.
This is what it looks like and you can seach windows programs for it it's called snipping tool.
