Sharkband shark repellent FAIL!!
Submitted by timboon on Sat, 2016-12-31 10:01Now this is pretty damned unlucky or this product is the ultimate shark fishermans tool....
Perhaps you shark fisho's out there could save on bait and just thread a 10/0 through the band?

What did santa bring?
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2016-12-28 18:50Has the obligatory "Xmas Gift" thread been started and i have missed it? Apologies if so.
What did Santa bring this year?
Our Xmas was a bit light on but i was lucky enough to get a small tackle bag which i have dedicated to my range of soft plastics and jig heads. A $50 Bogans Can't Fish voucher which i converted into a 5 function head lamp (red plus four levels of white brightness) and a $100 Tim's Tackle voucher which i used to add 300m of pe4 braid onto my trolling rig, a tackle bag with heavy duty clip seal envelopes inside on a three ring binder which i have dedicated to my bottom bouncing bait rigs, and a pair of braid scissors to use up the balance.
I am happy with that.

Outboard Steering
Submitted by OLD BANGA on Wed, 2016-12-28 15:07I have noticed the steering on my Webster with 60hp Y amaha 4 stroke is atarting to get stiff, I regularly remove the rubber seal and backing nut on the steering rod near the motor and coat with automatic transmission oil and replace the seal and holding nut. I have been advised in the past not to use grease in this area as the grease only hardens up and presents problems. Seeking advice on what other s are using and is this a common problem???
The boat gets used very regularly so is not sitting unused for amy length of time, what is the best maintenance method?
Merry Christmas and a safe and successfull New Year to all..........

Rescue off Mandurah today - dumb people?
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2016-12-27 12:14Seems a few people forgot how to play boats this weekend.
Before I get stuck into the three today, condolonces to the family of the bloke who got hit by his own boat at Rotto yesterday.
What sort of dumb arse would go out to James service reef today? Punching into 30's and a bit of swell to make it more entertaining.
Clearly they didn't take the rite precorshuns or however that bloke spelt it. It's people like that who get marinas/ramps shut when the wind is up.

Selling a used Craypot-ID engraved
Submitted by kirky79 on Sat, 2016-12-24 20:59As the title suggests.
Thinking of selling an old Craypot of mine that has my ID engraved into the top Jarrah frame. I know it's pretty trivial but should I grind it off before selling or leave it to the buyer?
Thoughts.
Chris
Merry Christmas everyone

KIds & Life Jackets
Submitted by Tom M on Fri, 2016-12-23 12:07Wanted to get a feel on peoples thoughts on the wearing of PFD's for kids on boats. Seen a number of photos this season with kids joining their fathers on boats getting crays, which is fantastic to see the kids having so much fun. However it concerns me when these photos show the kids without life jackets on. At this stage I will declare that I am one of those those so called safety .......s. BUT also as a parent and grandfather who takes kids out on the water and insists they wear a PFD.
Dept of Transport have recommendations for kids under 10 but I am not sure it should be law it just makes common sense for kids to wear them?
We don't leave them around pools unsuperised.
WE insist they wear seat belts in cars.
WE even make them put sunblock on and wear hats.
Anyway a good time of the year to have a dsicussion??

Not fishing related/Elizabeth Quay parking racket
Submitted by lastcast on Thu, 2016-12-22 16:35In summary
Went to Elizabeth quay
Waited 1 1/2 hours for sketchy meal at 'The Revely'
Back to car had $100 fine for "parking on land contrary to consent"
Following day visited Perth Council
Was told I'd parked contrary to "the sign" and had been fined at request of leaseholder
Lodged notice to contest on grounds there is no sign.
Visited spoke with leaseholder Indian restaurant
They confirmed no sign exists
Also confirmed they had made no such request
They have been fined themselves in fact
Council making at least many hundreds dollars / day from this
Fine was waived
City of Perth Parking Local Law part 2.2.1 states that
"The council may prohibit or regulate by signs or otherwise the stopping and parking of any vehicle and person, or both, but it is to do so consistently with the provisions of this local law."
My conclusion is this is a racket. Fight the power.

Custom Rod Builder Recommendations anyone ?
Submitted by Happy Hooker on Thu, 2016-12-22 08:12Hi All
Just seeing if anyone has had a custom built rod made recently or can recommend me to someone.
Have a Purglas blank (400/8 2 piece) that needs building in to heavy surf rod (and to a high standard).
Prefer North of River but not fussed that much as I am looking for quality build.
Cheers

Professional craypots and sinkers
Submitted by Rob H on Mon, 2016-12-19 12:25 Shared "Australian Professional Fishermen" page.
I have personally been on the wrong end of this and it is DEADLY.
Usually when winching a pot, you will grapple the floats and pull them on, put rope in winch then put winch on full speed, throw floats on deck by winch for hand coiling and bend over to pat ropes in coiler bin and sort floats.
Thats when the sinker comes up and swings a wide arc and ruins your day...

More crayfish offences sorted
Submitted by Dazzler on Fri, 2016-12-16 23:46From WA Today December 16 2016
Fishing tinny pulled from the water for crayfish offences off Rottnest- David Allan-Petale
WA Fisheries has pulled another boat from the water off Perth for alleged rock lobster pot interference - this time a fishing tinny up to mischief off Rottnest.
A 28-year-old man from Maylands had his 4.5m aluminium vessel hauled onto a flat bed truck and carted away on Wednesday leaving him to face allegations of lobster pot offences.
This is the fifth boat seized this recreational rock lobster season under Operation Bagana, with an alleged pot thief's boat pulled from the water in October, two more nabbed in November and a top dollar Assassin craft confiscated earlier this month.
The latest boat seizure comes as five men were found guilty on Tuesday in Fremantle Court of serious rock lobster offences, committed during last year's fishing season and as recent as October this year around Rottnest Island.
In addition to interference charges, Waring and Addison were also convicted of using excess pots, and Veling and Stransky were convicted of failing to tail clip recreationally-caught rock lobsters.
Separately, Tarm Stephen Ralph Michielsen of Hillarys was fined over $3000 for obstruction of a fisheries officer and possession of totally protected rock lobster when he was apprehended in October this year at Rottnest.
North Metropolitan Compliance Manager Todd A'Vard said the seizures and charges show fisheries officers are being extremely vigilant on the water.
"Rottnest Island is a special place for many West Australians, and we won't tolerate these fish thieves ruining the experience for the rest of the community who are just trying to set a pot and catch a feed – often on their family holiday with the kids," Mr A'Vard said.
"Rogue fishers can expect to be under surveillance and it's only a matter of time until you are caught. And when you are, expect severe penalties, as were handed down in Fremantle Court on Tuesday this week."
"Our message has been clear this season that we don't tolerate any gear interference. Not only do you risk having your boat seized – you could have your fishing licence suspended or cancelled."
Anyone with information about suspected illegal fishing activities is urged not to get involved, but report what they see to FishWatch on 1800 815 507.

Fremantle Pushing for Big Bash Team
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2016-12-16 10:33As if their failed attempt to include a side into the AFL wasn't enough they now want to include a second WA into the BBL. I'd love to see what would happen if they were scheduled to play on Australia Day. Would they try and push the game back two days?
I wonder how many Scorchers fans would jump ship like so many of the new Fremantle supporters did in 1995?
