High and Dry
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2015-04-05 14:03Had to do a run down to Turtle Bay to check on a boat that had run aground, luckily both crew were ok, no injuries. The boys had a coupe of days sleeping on an angle and had to put up with 44million and ten flies each. [the worst I've ever seen and only since the cyclone past through]
Did the run down again the next day to assist the tug and line boat in dragging it off the ledge and then the 55nm tow back home to Carnarvon. Luckily there wasn't too much damage to the hull and the pumps were able to keep it afloat until today, Sunday when it was pulled from the water.

HEMA android app
Submitted by tadpole on Sat, 2015-04-04 10:00Has anyone on here used the HEMA app for android? The reviews on Google Play are a bit up and down and it sounds like they update popular 4wd areas (Vic highlands, FNQ for example) but are a bit behind in their updates for the less popular areas (possibly WA). I have a couple of free mapping apps (Memory Map & Backcountry Navigator) which are pretty good, but is it worth the $29.99 for the HEMA app? Considering their standalone navigators are upwards of $600.

brake check
Submitted by turtl3tim on Sat, 2015-04-04 07:30Hi all,
now i know that in an accident, the car at the back is always 'at fault' for travelling too closely, but has anyone ever heard of someone being charged with careless, dangerous or even wreckless driving for brake checking someone?
If i didnt have the missus in the car with me on the way to Albany on thursday night, i wouldnt need to ask this question as i would have brake checked the royal d!€|<head that was tailgating me at 110-115.
We had already gone over the top of one poor skip that was still in misery (glad we decided to take my car and the not the missus'...i have ground clearance haha) and about 10 minutes after that had another 2 very close calls with the skippys.
No word of a lie, this idiot in a yellow 2 door jeep was tailgating me so closely that at times i couldnt see his headlights. The rest of the time he would have been less than 6-8m behind me. I was more than happy to sit a good safe distance behind the 4by infront, who had better lighting than i did.
After about half an hour this idiot finally went around me and then did the exact same thing to the poor bloke infront. He finally got off the road at mt barker thankfully. These idiot have no idea how dangerous it is.

Early Friday Funny for Easter
Submitted by Paul H on Thu, 2015-04-02 14:10will be without internet over Easter (my Daughter will die without it) so getting in early
A man and his nagging wife went for a Holiday. Whilst in Jerusalem she passed away.
The undertaker told the man you can have her shipped home for $5,000 or bury her here for $150.
After thinking a while the man told the undertaker he would take her home.
The undertaker queried this asking why he would pay $5,000 to take her home when she could be buried in the holy land for only $150.
The man replied - "A long time ago a man died here, they buried him here and three days later he rose from the dead. I can't take that chance"
Happy Easter!!

to move on, or to retract my resignation?
Submitted by turtl3tim on Wed, 2015-04-01 01:13hi all, im chasing advise from anyone who has been in a similar situation, or advise thats just helpful in general from those who have been around a bit longer.
Ill use hypothetical figures for this as an example.
long story short, i had a couple of interviews with a new company because things arent to flash where i am currently. the job was advertised at 60-70k and NOT MARKED as OTE when advertised (on-target-earnings, for those who arent aware). had first interview with dealer principal who confirmed it was 60-70k for a 90 hour fortnight, 7.30-5, no weekends, plus bonuses.
had second interview with service manager who confirmed it was a 90 hour fortnight, 7.30-5, no weekend work, but informed me it was $25 per hour to be exact.
anyway i toddled on home tickled pink that i was offered the job, started filling out paperwork and did some math, turns out that $25p/h over a 90 hour fortnight works out to be $1800 net which equals to be $58500 a year gross, im currently on $1710 per fortnight so i wasnt overly displeased that it didnt meet the minimum of 60k as it was advertised, thinking that maybe the rest was made up in bonuses like he had mentioned, and it was still and extra $100 in the hand a fortnight PLUS bonuses.
but wait, thats not even the best bit. 1.5 weeks prior to me actually commencing my new job i get an email from them with a payslip, i called them and advised them they had made a mistake because i hadnt started yet, but at the same time i noticed it was only 76 hours worth of pay for a 90 hour fortnight!
so i called the service manager and asked him to explain what was going on with the 76 hour fortnightly pay when we are working 90. his response was oh, didnt anyone explain that to you? you get paid a base salary of $1570 ($25p/h) a fortnight for 76 hours and the rest is made up in monthly bonuses and commission if you do well, its the same with the car salesmen. but heres the thing, im not a car salesman, i will be working as a service advisor.
so essentially i need to make $640 a month in bonuses to make it worth me being there for 90 hours a fortnight at $25 per hour,$830 a month to reach the advertised minimum or 60k per year based on a 76 hour fortnight or $280 a month in bonuses to even match what im on with my current employer.
the main reason for me leaving was the 'supposed' pay increase because things have been a bit skint. but now it feels like ive been screwed over twice, once with the actual salary of the job being less than advertised (without having the structure explained to me, and being mislead) and secondly, not getting paid for the hours ill be required to do as standard and the bonuses not being a gauranteed income to equate to my current income and the retainer is $140 less.
my notice was put in last week so i dont have long to retract my resignation (if they will let me), so im stuck between a rock and a hard place as to whether i should gamble on making enough in bonuses to pay the bills, or stay where i am and continue to babysit a senior employee for half the day, and twiddle my thumbs for the other half, for more gauranteed money, even if there is possibly the potential to earn more in bonuses with the new company. Thats IF they will let me retract my resignation!?!
is there some sort of legality to having to advertise as OTE? im yet to sign a contract of employment, havnt got a copy of the pay structure or anything either.
havnt resigned on bad terms.
advice?

Billies in Busso
Submitted by Paully on Mon, 2015-03-30 18:05Just saw a news article on 7 about bill fish at the Buselton jetty. Saw footage of a sail fish I think it was, hammering baitfish. Interested to know people's thoughts, is this a rarity - or have they showed up there before. Im guessing there might bea few fishos visiting the jetty now, with some different rigs in hand.

Trailer Lights
Submitted by fish 06 on Mon, 2015-03-30 15:44Had a slight problem with the trailer lights on Sunday
Woke up nice and early on Sunday morning, plugged the lights in
and went to check them nothing. Walking around the car I noticed I had no tail lights
or indicators on the car, no fishing for me today.
Later investigation the fuses had blown in the car for the tail lights/ brake lights & indicators?
Checked the plug joiner for the L E D lights and found this, some of the led lights had melted on the left side as well.
Long story short $$, going to do a complete rewire and new lights next time home. Please check your lights on your trailer
Yeah Sulo all joins including the plugs had heat shrink covering them. as you can see from second picture
a second join only had basic crimps have been cut away, and heat shrink wrap & pushed up into trailer frame
unknown to me, lights have been on the trailer since I have had it 4 years, no problem till Sunday.
All wiring will be replaced with no plugs.

Safe Overnight Parking
Submitted by Cruise Control on Mon, 2015-03-30 11:10Hey Guys
Looking to spend a night over at Rotto on the boat over the Easter weekend. However I am worried about leaving car and trailer unattended overnight. Is anyone aware of a facility where you can park up your rig with reasonable expectation that it will still be there in one piece the next day ?
cheers

gotta say fishwrecked members are......
Submitted by Deleted on Thu, 2015-03-26 21:06good blokes
well a few months ago i asked members about a tonneau covers for my ute and a place to get one, a few responded and cheers for that by the way.
but after a few calls and a bunch of emails i decided it was to much coin for no real gain.
so i decided a new canopy was a goer. welllll after a few calls trying to find a hard canopy and the realisation that i couldnt load the ute up to max with a hard canopy scrapped that idea to.
left me with the last idea of canvas canopy and ali frame more calls later holly shit $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. this is were fishwrecked suprised me, i hit up the search function (try it out folks
) and came across a post were a member had mentioned getting exactly what i wanted done to his ute.
threw that member a message explaining my position and also ensuring him if he didnt want to help then that was no problems what so ever.
turns out member DECKIE is a bloody champ and threw all the info i asked into a few messages and even $$$ amounts. so i followed up all his ideas had to make changes to suit my ute and budget but in the end the result is what i wanted.
today i picked up the ute and checked fishwrecked and wouldnt ya no it deckie messaged me asking how it went ![]()

CHEERS DECKIE there is a beer or a fish on my boat with your name on it (unless you have a massive boat and the best spots in perth) then its yours and ill pay
.
this isnt a bullshit offer bud i have also sent you a PM can even take the coli's up wilbinga one day
